Huntingdon Man Charged in Attempted Store Robberies in Jackson |
By Linda Bolton
linda@mckenziebanner.com |
An alert Huntingdon police officer was instrumental in
the arrest of a Huntingdon man, who has been charged with
two attempted robberies in the city of Jackson.
Twenty-six-year-old Mark Otto Reed of 152 Westport Road,
Huntingdon, has been charged with two counts of attempted
aggravated robbery by Jackson Police Department.
Huntingdon Patrolman David Andrews stopped Reed's wife,
Brandy Lynn, at approximately 8:15 a.m. Thursday, May 19, on
violation of the registration law. While running the tag on
the 1991 Chevrolet Beretta, Andrews discovered the license
number was the same as one suspected in the Jackson
robberies.
Mrs. Reed was transported to Huntingdon Police Department
and investigators from Jackson Police Department were
contacted and arrived to interview the woman.
Through the course of the investigation, Mark Reed was
developed as a suspect in the May 7 robberies of Trinity
Food Mart at 1586 N. Royal Street and the Dodge Store,
located at 109 Lexington Street in Jackson.
Mr. Reed arrived at Huntingdon Police Department, where he
was also interviewed and acknowledged he attempted to rob
the stores, according to warrants filed at Jackson City
Court by investigators Cathy L. Ferguson and Al Colon.
Reed entered Trinity Food Mart at 11:45 p.m. and demanded
money from the cashier, Am Alghazli, the warrant states. The
suspect had an item under his shirt that he pointed at
Alghazli. The casher believed the suspect had pointed a gun
at him, so he retrieved his gun from under the counter. The
suspect did not acquire any money and fled the scene in an
older model white Chevrolet Beretta. Reed later told
investigators he was not armed with a weapon, but did have a
bottle under his shirt he purported to be a weapon, the
warrant states.
Ten minutes after the first robbery attempt, Reed allegedly
entered the Dodge Store and demanded money. He again had an
item under his clothing that he pointed at cashiers Monica
Peoples and Chasity McKinney, the warrant states. The two
cashiers believed the suspect was armed with some type of
weapon and notified the manager, Shawonder Hodge. The
suspect again fled the store without acquiring money and
left the scene in an older model Chevrolet Beretta.
Mr. Reed was charged as noted and transported to Madison
County Jail, where bond was set at $100,000. He remained
incarcerated Monday and is scheduled to appear in court
Thursday, May 26.
Mrs. Reed was cited into Huntingdon City Court on Monday,
June 13, on charges of violation of the registration law,
violation of the seatbelt law, and violation of the finance
law, according to Joe Parker, director of Public Safety at
Huntingdon Police Department.
