Wilma “Jo” Autry
1931-2005
HUNTINGDON:
Services for Wilma Jo Autry, 73, were conducted Thursday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randall Woods officiating. Interment followed in the Davis Chapel Cemetery.
Ms. Autry died Tuesday, April 5, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born December 31, 1931, in Carroll County, to the late Amos A. Autry and Lizzie Taylor Autry. She provided childcare services from her home for several of the community children and was a member of the County Line Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Autry and Fred Autry.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Todd, and one son, Jerry Autry, both of Huntingdon; four sisters, Ruth Springer of Huntingdon, Lorelle Collin of Vidalia, Georgia, and Marzell Baker and Irene Pinkley, both of Bruceton; one brother, Roby Autry of Hollow Rock; two granddaughters; and one special child, Coy Hooten.

David Alan Byas
1960-2005
MCKENZIE:
Services for David Alan Byas, 44, of the Macedonia Community, were held Thursday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Umberger officiating. Interment followed in the Liberty Cemetery near McKenzie.
Mr. Byas, who was disabled, died Monday, April 4, at his residence. He was a Memphis native born October 28, 1960, to the late William Harold Byas and Maggie Mae Melear Byas Dunn.
Survivors include two sisters, Judy Connell of Southaven, Mississippi, and Patricia Umberger of Sardis, Mississippi; one brother, Jim Byas of McKenzie; and several cousins.

Marshall Jones
1926-2005
CEDAR GROVE:
Services for Marshall Jones, 79, were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Milan.
Mr. Jones, a retired trooper, died Friday at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Margie F. Jones of Cedar Grove; one son, Van Jones of Eads; five daughters, Shirley D. Jones of Milan, Terry Jones Hollins of Tullahoma, Donna J. Aylor of Jackson, Ellen Wolfe of Manchester, and Sharon F. Haggett of Wilmington, North Carolina; one brother, Stone B. Jones of Odessa, Texas; one sister, Martha Jones Browning of Milan; and 12 grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

Nelle Moody Kirk
1913-2005
HUNTINGDON:
Services for Nelle Moody Kirk, 91, were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon. Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Kirk died Thursday, April 7, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
She lived all her life in Carroll County, was educated at McTyiere School and Bethel College and worked as a journalist at numerous area newspapers, including The McKenzie Banner, which was then owned by her father, Curtis D. Moody. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and filled many service positions, including over 50 years as a Sunday School teacher. She was a longtime volunteer for the American Cancer Society and a lifetime member of the Booklovers Club and the Huntingdon Women’s Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Bettie K. Wilson of Johnson City; two sisters, Jane Kearney of Clermont, Florida, and Lucy Pilgrim of Memphis; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Robert Kirk, and one brother, Curtis D. Moody.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Huntingdon, Habitat for Humanity, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Swindell Childress
1921-2005
BRADFORD:
Services for Elizabeth Swindell Childress, 83, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, at the First Baptist Church in Bradford with Rev. Don Dyer and Rev. Gary Miller officiating. Interment followed in Bradford Cemetery.
Mrs. Childress, retired from the Kellwood Corp., died Saturday, April 9, at her residence. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Eva Nell and Barbara Sue.
She taught Sunday school for classes of all ages for her church for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Betsy Perry of Atwood; one son, James Harvey Childress of Bradford; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Josie Lillian Carey
1918-2005
MCKENZIE:
Services for Josie Lillian Carey, 87, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Vance Rushing officiating. Interment followed in Everett’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Carey, a retired factory worker, died Saturday, April 9, at McKenzie Health Care.
She was born May 28, 1917, to the late Albert Blount and Emma Morgan Blount.
Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Hampton of McKenzie; two grandchildren, Bobby Hampton and Deborah Laudermilk; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Addie Lee Carey, and a son, Charles Carey.

Rachel Wilson Reaves
1934-2005
MCKENZIE:
Services for Rachel Wilson Reaves, 71, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Larry DePriest officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Reaves, a retired cook for City Café, died Wednesday, April 6, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
She was born January 16, 1934, in McKenzie, to the late Len Reaves and Ruth Tegethoff Reaves.
Survivors include a son, Anthony (Janice) Moon of Westport; two daughters, Donna (James) Garner of Huntingdon and Sandra Davidson of McKenzie; two sisters, Evora (Bill) Burnine of McKenzie and Ethel (the late Joe) Cary of McKenzie; one brother, Lendale (Sue) Reaves of McKenzie; nine grandchildren, Richard Jason Moon, Charles Anthony Moon, Heather Moody, Amanda Spencer, Randy Reed, Jennifer Reed, Bradley Reed, Amelia Wilson and Dennis Ricketts; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Lavon Wilson, and a sister, Lottie Ruth Taylor.

James Milton Castleman
1922-2005
MARTIN:
Memorial services for James Milton Castleman, 72, formerly of Gleason, were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 7, at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden with the Rev. Jim Pinnell officiating.
Mr. Castleman, a retired laborer, died Saturday, April 2, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born in Gleason to the late J. Ned and Fay Killebrew Castleman.
Survivors include two brothers, Eddie Castleman of Calera, Oklahoma, and Kenneth Castleman of Paris.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gay Purvis, and a brother, Bennie Castleman.

Billy Rutledge Ellis
1939-2005
GLEASON:
Services for Billy Rutledge Ellis, 65, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 4, at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Carr officiating. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery.
Mr. Ellis, a retired K-T Clay heavy machine operator, died Friday, April 1, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was a charter member and former commander of the Weakley County Rescue Squad and a former member of the Gleason Fire Department.
He was born April 4, 1939, in Newbern, to the late Floyd Elmore “Joe” Ellis and Carrine Rutledge. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Garland Terry Ellis, and two sisters, Frances Bryant and Harriett Argo.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Frances Carrington Ellis; a son, Demo Ellis of Gleason; two daughters, Rae Smith of Gleason and Marta (William) Pate of Dresden; and four grandchildren, Shay Ellis, Devon Ellis, Brelin Smith and Kasie Smith.

James Floyd Williams
1923-2005
PARIS:
Services for James Floyd Williams, 81, were conducted at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home. Interment followed in Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Christmasville.
Mr. Williams, a retired maintenance employee for LaSalle Bank of Chicago, Illinois, died on Saturday, April 9, at Henry County Medical Center.
He was born December 22, 1923, in Bradford, to the late Joel Edgar Williams and Novaline Warren Williams. He was a member of the Republican Grove Baptist Church in Trezevant, the Paris Moose Lodge, and was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie Arrington Williams; two daughters, Carole Williams of Berrien Springs, Michigan, and Sherry Crosno of Paris; two sons, Joel Williams and David Williams, both of Chicago, Illinois; three sisters, Annie Myrl Cooper of McKenzie, Annette Dowland of Bradford, and Linda McDaniel of Gleason; six grandchildren,; and three great-grandchildren.

Virginia Covington Hawkins
1909-2005
TERRYTOWN, NEW YORK:
A memorial service for Virginia “Ginny” Covington Hawkins, 95, was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at the Reformed Church of Tarrytown. Her ashes will be interred on April 16 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a graveside service.
Mrs. Hawkins died at her home on February 15 when she succumbed to a second stroke.
Ginny was born May 13, 1909, in McKenzie, to the late Macie Ownby and Charles Waff Covington. She was their only surviving child.
She attended McKenzie High School, Bethel College, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the National Academy of Design in New York City. She married Edward Meredith Hawkins at the McKenzie Presbyterian Church on January 16, 1944.
Mrs. Hawkins was the first female member of the Hackley School in Terrytown where she taught art for sixteen years.
Virginia was a portrait artist and assisted her husband with his commercial art designs.
Survivors include a number of cousins including Doris Hearne Willoughby, Gary Willoughby, and Margaret Perry of Paris. Additional cousins reside in Tampa, Florida, Hillsboro, Texas and Richmond, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, Ginny requested donations be made to Plan International, 155 Plan Way, Warwick, Rhode Island 02886.

Joe Harold Alexander
1933-2005
DRESDEN:
Services for Joe Harold Alexander, 72, were held Friday, April 1, at Gallimore Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Auvenshine and Rev. Gene Price officiating.
Mr. Alexander, a retired United States Navy Master Chief, died Tuesday, March 29, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and American Military Society.
He was born February 7, 1933, in Gleason, to the late Ira Alexander and Lula Underwood Alexander. Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Alexander; a daughter, Vicki Marie Chappell; a stepson, Bruce Allen Gordon; and a sister, Norma Jean Perkins.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy Lynn Alexander of Trezevant, and Jamie Suzanne "Suzie" Alexander of South Hampton, Virginia; a stepdaughter, Amy Gordon of Haverhill, Massachusetts; a son, Terry Wayne Alexander of Greenfield; two stepsons, Eric Gordon of Gleason, and Michael Gordon of Revere, Massachusetts; a brother, Lendell Alexander of Dresden; a sister, Rebecca Verdell of Gleason; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Annie Lucille Johnson Gowan
1916-2005
ATWOOD:
Services for Annie Lucille Johnson Gowan, 89, were at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan with the Rev. Ron Corder officiating. Interment followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Lavinia.
Mrs. Gowan, a homemaker, died on Sunday, April 10, at Milan General Hospital.
She was born January 20, 1916, in Gibson County to the late Erner Johnson and Nannie Moore Johnson. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Milan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Etheridge Gowan. There were no immediate survivors.

Faye Anderson Vines
1931-2004
HUNTINGDON:
Services for Faye Anderson Vines, 73, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Paul Mulliken officiating. Interment followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Vines died Sunday, April 10, at her home.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Serl Anderson. She was a member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Vines of Huntingdon; one daughter, Jan Foster of Louisville, Kentucky; three sons, Max Anderson of Cedar Grove, Don Anderson of Nashville and Jerry Anderson of Winchester; one brother, Roy E. Hopper of Huntingdon; and four grandchildren.
