Rosie Adams
1947-2005
HENRY: Services for Rosie Adams, 56, were conducted on Saturday, February
19, at 1:00 p.m. at the Greater Enon Baptist Church. Interment followed in Caton
Springs Cemetery in Henry.
Mrs. Adams died Wednesday, February 16, at her sister’s home in McKenzie.
She was born April 10, 1947, in Tippah County, Mississippi, to the late Ms.
Ezelle Carter.
Survivors include a special friend and caregiver, J.D. Meadows; two sons, James
Meadows of Henry and Otis Meadows of Fort Watchucka, Arizona; ten sisters:
Starlene Estes of Faulkner, Mississippi, Beverly Garrett of Rockford, Illinois,
Sky Eva Luter of Milan, Anjeanette Gibson and Mattie Woodruff, both of Detroit,
Michigan, Lorece Gunn of Memphis, Eunice Morris and Carolyn Curry, both of
McKenzie, Dorothy Ward of Jackson, and Diane Carter of Trenton; and six
brothers: Donald Curry and Melvin Carter of McKenzie, William Carter, Ricky
Carter and Edward Curry, all of Jackson, and Michael Curry of Paris.
Virginia Browning Byrne
1923-2005
MEMPHIS: Graveside services for Virginia Browning Byrne, 81, formerly of
Henry County, were at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 21, at Forest Hill Midtown
Cemetery.
Mrs. Byrne, a former postal clerk and Avon representative, died Thursday,
February 17, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rush E.
Byrne.
Survivors include a special friend and caregiver with whom she resided, Thyra
Gail Runion of Memphis, and one brother, John Atkins of Daytona Beach, Florida.
James Otho Fowler
1923-2005
ATWOOD: Services for James “Shorty” Otho Fowler, 81, were at 10:00 a.m.,
Wednesday, February 16, at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan, with the Rev. Thomas
Barber officiating. Burial was in Pisgah Cemetery.
Mr. Fowler, retired employee of M.A.A. P. died Sunday, February 13, at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born March 23, 1923, in Houston County, to the late Maurice Fowler and
Bertha Jane Mobley Fowler. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War
II.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Fowler of Atwood and Randy Fowler of
Cookeville; a daughter, Linda Fowler Black of McLemoresville; six grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Dean Fowler.
Rachel June Howell
1932-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for Rachel June Howell, 72, were at 2:00 p.m., February
19, at Brummitt Funeral Home. Burial was in Henry Cemetery.
Mrs. Howell, a homemaker, died Wednesday, February 16, at her residence.
She was born October 11, 1932, in Henry, to the late Bruce Slaton McFadden and
Mildred Haynes Hundley McFadden. She was a member of the McKenzie Church of
Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Lawton Howell of Las Vegas, Nevada and Van Howell of
Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Shelia Schukert of McKenzie; three brothers, Gordon
Ray McFadden and Tommy McFadden, both of Henry, and Billy McFadden of
Huntsville, Alabama; four sisters, Madeline Barker, Jane Spann and Judy Finley,
all of McKenzie, and Shirley Faye Pierce of Hammond, Indiana; seven
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Lillie Bell Johnson
1909-2005
GLEASON: Services for Lillie Bell Johnson, 96, were conducted on Friday,
February 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with interment in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson, a retired store owner, died on Wednesday, February 16, at the
Henry County Medical Center in Paris.
Survivors include two daughters, Robbie Barineau of Jacksonville, Florida, and
Loville Boane of Gleason; two brothers, James Mayo and Elbert Mayor, both of
McKenzie; two sisters, Lucille Woods of Gleason and Lula Mae Holmes of
Huntingdon; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several
great-great-grandchildren.
Joseph W. Smarsh, Jr.
1939-2005
HUNTINGDON: Services for Joseph W. Smarsh, Jr., 65, were conducted at 2:00
p.m., Monday, February 21, in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Wayne
Burton officiating. Interment followed in the Natchez Trace Baptist Church
Cemetery.
Mr. Smarsh died Thursday, February 17, at his home.
He was born April 17, 1939, to the late Joseph Wishard Smarsh, Sr. and Ruth Dice
Smarsh.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy Haywood of Lexington and Tina Wilson of
Huntingdon; one son, Chad Smarsh of Wildersville; one sister, Patricia Rose of
Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania; one brother, John Smarsh of Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.
Howard Willis
1941-2005
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Howard Willis, 63, were conducted on Saturday,
February 12, at 12:00 noon, in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe
Abbott officiating. Interment followed in the Sellers Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Willis died Thursday, February 10, at the Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital.
He was born August 13, 1941, in Gibson County, to the late Elmo and Jane Coleman
Willis. He was an engineer for the Maersk Line Company; was a naval veteran with
20 years of service, a member of the Hollow Rock VFW and attended the Marlboro
Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by one son, Randy Willis, and one
sister, Janice Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Betty Rosser Willis; one daughter, Tina
Willis Howell of Bellevue, Nebraska; one sister, Ruth Farris of Bartlett; two
brothers, Leroy Willis of Trenton and Clarence Willis of Herndon, Virginia; and
three grandchildren.
Harry J. Ciscell
1943-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Harry J. Ciscell, 61, were held at 1:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, February 22, at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield, with the Rev. Roy
Auvenshine officiating. Burial was in Hornbeak Cemetery.
Mr. Ciscell, an employee of Shomaker Lumber Company, died Sunday, February 20,
at Regional Hospital in Jackson.
He was born June 2, 1943, in Charleston, Missouri, to the late Harry Ciscell,
Sr. and Gladys Mae Stone Ciscell.
Survivors include three sons, Timothy Ciscell of McKenzie, Darrell Ciscell and
Michael Ciscell, both of Greenfield; a daughter, Kimberly Gougat of Cleveland,
Ohio; three sisters, Barbara Casey of Greenfield, Marie Moore of Martin and
Lucille (last named unavailable) of Mound City, Illinois; and eight
grandchildren.
Mary Spellings Harris
1910-2005
TREZEVANT: Services for Mary Spellings Harris, 94, will be at 11:00 a.m.,
Wednesday, February 23, at Brummitt Funeral Home in Trezevant, with Rev. Malcolm
Norton officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Milan.
Mrs. Harris, retired co-owner of Thomas L. Harris Jewelry, died Sunday, February
20, at Huntingdon Health and Rehab Center.
She was born December 19, 1910, in Gibson County, to the late Earsley H.
Spellings and Maude Mae Spellings. She was a member of the First Baptist Church
in Trezevant.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Tom Roberts of Huntingdon, Jennifer
Michael of Medina and Lisa Nall of Des Moines, Iowa, and seven
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Harris; a daughter, Mary Lou
Roberts; and a sister, Ruth Keeton.
Hazle I. Camper
1928-2005
TREZEVANT: Services for Hazle I. Camper, 76, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday,
February 22, at Brummitt Funeral Home in Trezevant with Brothers Priestly Scott
and Richard McCaskill officiating. Burial was in the Trezevant Cemetery.
Mrs. Camper, retired employee of Milan Arsenal, died on Saturday, February 19,
at NHC Health Care Center.
She was born November 8, 1928, in Carroll County, to the late Henry Mann and
Irene Hayes Mann. She was a member of Fairview Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Marty Camper of Jackson; a brother, Bobby (JoAnn) Mann
of McLemoresville; and a son-in-law, James O’Neil Hinton of Trezevant.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Ann Hinton, and a brother,
Buford Mann.
Bettie Jane Lee
1935-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Bettie Jane Lee, 70, were at 1:00 p.m. Monday,
February 21, at LeDon Chapel, Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris, with the Rev. John
Coleman officiating. Burial was in Chapel Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in
Huntingdon.
Mrs. Lee, a former employee of Wilker Brothers and a homemaker, died Friday,
February 18, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born February 16, 1935, in Lake County, to the late Eules Grant Coleman
and Georgia Bell Lowe Coleman. She was a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis Lee, Jr.; a daughter, Pamela Evans of
McKenzie; a brother, William Coleman of Huntingdon; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Clarcie Marie Coleman.
James Weldon Dale
1932-2005
PARIS: Services for James Weldon Dale, 73, were conducted at 2:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, February 22, at McEvoy Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Brannon and Don
Heath officiating. Interment followed in the Gibson Cemetery in Henry.
Mr. Dale died on Sunday, February 20, at his residence.
He was born January 30, 1932, in Henry County, to the late Mervyn Dale and
Nannie Glisson Dale. He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Inez Gilliam.
He was a lifelong row crop and beef farmer in the Liberty IV community. He
served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean
Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Helen Brawner Dale; two daughters, Nancy
French and Marianne Leonard, both of Paris; four grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Charles Edward Lee
1926-2005
PARIS: Services for Charles Edward Lee, 78, will be conducted at 1:00 p.m.
in the LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris on Wednesday, February 23,
with Dwight Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in
McKenzie. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 22, from 4:00-8:00 p.m
and on Wednesday after 11:00 a.m.
Mr. Lee, a mechanic and former car salesman, died on Monday, February 21, in the
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born September 30, 1926, to the late Barney Ray Lee and Clara Opal Shell
Lee. He was preceded by a stepson, Ricky Laster, two sisters, Christine Sanders
and Shirley Ann Gaskins, and a brother, Willie Ray Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Marie Ward Lee; one son, Charles David “Blue”
Lee; two daughters, Joanie Moody of Henry and Linda Hicks of McKenzie; one
stepson, Danny Lester of McKenzie; one stepdaughter, Gail Sutterlund of Memphis;
three sisters, Dorothy Harper and Deloris Edwards, both of Henry, and Robbie
Jean French of Paris; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Debra Ann Pruitt
1956-2004
HUNTINGDON: Memorial services for Debra Ann Pruitt, 48, were conducted on
Tuesday, February 22, at 4:00 p.m., in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro.
Jerry Hollingsworth officiating.
Ms. Pruitt, a homemaker, died Saturday, February 19, at her home.
She was born November 18, 1956, in Gary, Indiana. She was preceded in death by
her mother, Luzetta Loveless Pruitt; one brother, Terry Pruitt; and a
granddaughter, Etta Grace Miller.
Survivors include two daughters, Brandy Boyd Slaybaugh of Knoxville and Heather
Boyd Miller of Louisville, Kentucky; her father, James E. Pruitt of Paris; one
sister, Cindy Doles of Huntingdon; two brothers, Larry Pruitt and Jamie Pruitt,
both of Jackson; one grandson; one great-grandson; and several nieces and
nephews. |
