Frances Elizabeth Roney Cooper
1916-2005
GLEASON: Services for Frances Elizabeth Roney Cooper, 88, were at 2:00 p.m.,
Thursday, March 17, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Jim
Pinnell, Roy Auvenshine and Robert Tuck officiating. Burial was in Hopewell
Cemetery. Gallimore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Cooper, a homemaker, died Monday, March 14, at Volunteer Community Hospital
in Martin.
She was born September 8, 1916, in Gleason to the late Alton Bullock and Clara
Bailey Bullock. She was a member of the Gleason Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Lindell Roney of Gleason, Joe Wayne Roney of
Sharon and Earl Roney of Richmond, Virginia; two daughters, Marcia Tuck of
Gleason and Carolyn Allen of Dyersburg; a stepson, Howie Cooper of Gleason; two
stepdaughters, Linda Williams of Huntingdon and Leighton Parsley of Gleason; 17
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry H. Roney and Lloyd B. Cooper.
Rubye Lee Akin Bateman
1915-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for Rubye Lee Akin Bateman, 89, will be held at 11:00
a.m. Friday, March 25, in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Bethel College.
Mrs. Bateman died on Monday, March 21, at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
She was born October 29, 1915, to the late Willie Blaine Akin and Beulah
Blaylock Akin of Trezevant. She was the widow of Odell Bateman and was preceded
in death by three brothers, Robert Akin, Blaine Akin and Thomas Akin of
Trezevant, and a son-in-law, Jeff Thomas (Jean) of Chattanooga.
Mrs. Bateman was a retired bookkeeper for Bateman Construction Company and
pharmtech for Lindsey’s and Drigger’s Rexall Drugs. She was a member of the
McKenzie Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was
a member of the McKenzie Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Frances Jean Bateman Thomas of Chattanooga; one
son, Michael Odell Bateman and wife Laura J. Bateman of McKenzie; grandchildren,
David and wife Sharon Thomas, Cheri Thomas of Chattanooga, Michele and David
Jarrett, Christie and Brad Chappell, and Andrew Bateman, all of McKenzie, and
Michael Bline and wife Angela Bateman of Nashville; and great-grandchildren
Elizabeth Thomas of Chattanooga and Morgan, Zach and Evan Jarrett and Nick, Jake
and Allie Chappell, all of McKenzie.
Johnny B. Adkisson
1943-2005
GREENFIELD: Services for Johnny B. Adkisson, 61, were conducted Saturday,
March 19, at 12:00 noon at the Wingo Baptist Church in Wingo with the Reverend
Robert Norfolk officiating. Interment followed in the Wingo Church Cemetery.
Mr. Adkisson, a veteran and employee of Quebecor World, died on Tuesday, March
15, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
He was born December 13, 1943, in Trezevant to the late L.C. and Louise Williams
Adkisson.
Survivors include one son, Shannon Adkisson of Greenfield; two sisters, Loreene
Anderson and Sarah Brown, both of Bradford; a brother, Erskine Adkisson of
Atwood; companion Peggy Gill; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Trinity Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Michael “Mike” Douglas Breedon
1956-2005
PARIS: Services for Michael “Mike” Douglas Breedon, 49, were at 2:00 p.m.,
Friday, March 18, at Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris with Steve Gallimore and
Jerald Sykes officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Breedon, a farmer and self-employed carpenter, died on Tuesday, March 15, at
the Henry County Medical Center following a sudden illness.
He was born January 18, 1956, in Huntingdon to Harold Douglas Breedon of Cedar
Grove and Doris Jean Dennison Breedon of Huntingdon, both of whom survive.
Other survivors include his wife, Ret Thomas Breedon; one daughter, Melinda Webb
of Surprise, Arizona; one son, Geoffery Breeden of Richmond, Kentucky; one
brother, Keith Breeden of Huntingdon; his grandmother, Excell Dennison of
Huntingdon; two grandchildren; and one step-grandson.
He was preceded in death by three grandparents, Carl Dennison and Lenzie and
Ollie Mae Breeden.
Maureen Olivia Dowdy
1926-2005
HUNTINGDON: Services for Maureen Olivia Dowdy, 78, wee conducted Tuesday,
March 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Union Academy Baptist Church with Brother Ted
Duffy officiating. Interment followed in the Highland Memorial Mausoleum with
Brother Bobby Campbell officiating.
Mrs. Dowdy died Sunday, March 20. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Thomas Dowdy, in 2002.
Survivors include three daughters, Ann Burns and Ruth Butler, both of Jackson,
and Terry Cupples of Huntingdon; three sons, Thomas Dowdy of Nashville, Wayne
Dowdy of Huntingdon, and Duane Dowdy of Trezevant; one brother, Charles Williams
of Farmerville, Louisiana; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family requests donations be made to the Union Academy Baptist Church
Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
James Franklin Harrison
1918-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for James Franklin Harrison, 86, were at 2:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, March 22, at Brummitt Funeral Home with Brother Vance Rushing
officiating. Interment followed in Everett’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Harrison, a retired school bus driver for Weakley County and a farmer, died
Saturday, March 19, at Jackson Regional Hospital.
He was born July 29, 1918, in Atwood to the late Rachel Edward Harrison and Ben
Franklin Harrison.
Survivors include a son, Billy Franklin Harrison; a daughter, Mildred Payne of
McKenzie; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Pryor Harrison.
Bobby Odell Ross
1942-2005
HUNTNGDON: Services for Bobby Odell Ross, 62, were held Sunday, March 20, at
2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon with Brother Fred Ward
officiating. Interment followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Ross died Friday, March 18, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was born April 8, 1942, in Henderson County to the late William H. and
Flaudia McCormick Ross. He was an industrial engineer for the Publix Shirt
Corporation and a member of the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon. He was
preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristen Bynum.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Roy Ross; one son, Kevin Ross of Knoxville;
one stepson, David Carter and one stepdaughter, Amy Bynum, both of Huntingdon;
two sisters, Cathy Jameson of Memphis and Betty N. Todd of Smyrna; one brother,
Randy Ross of Lexington; and six grandchildren.
William D. Dismuke, Sr.
1924-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for William D. Dismuke, Sr., 80, will be held Wednesday,
March 23, in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with Doug Sanders
and Wayne Prater officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in
McKenzie. The family will receive friends at McKenzie Funeral Home Tuesday from
5:00-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Dismuke, a retired production manager for Zorn Printing Firm, died Monday,
March 21, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. He was a native of Martin and was born
August 26, 1924, to the late William Ashley Dismuke and Ruth Bell Gatewood
Dismuke. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served both during and following
World War II. He was discharged as a sergeant in the medical corps and was a
Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dupon Dismuke.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle Sanders Dismuke; two sons, Danny Dismuke,
Jr. of New York and Robert “Bobby” Dismujke of Long Beach, New Jersey; two
brothers, Hugh Dismuke of Dresden and Jerry Dismuke of Crete, Illinois; and two
grandchildren. |
