Elijah Steven Cole
MEMPHIS: Elijah Steven Cole, four months old, died Friday, February 25, at
Germantown Methodist Hospital. Autopsy results are not final.
He is survived by his parents, Shelby and Kelley Cole of Collierville, and his
grandparents, Danny Cole and Rita Shell, formerly of McKenzie.
“Eli’s short little life touched our lives like we never imagined possible,”
said Shell. “He will be sadly missed.”
A trust fund has been established at First Tennessee Bank in his name. Donations

Charles Talmadge Flippin
1931-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for Charles Talmadge Flippin, 74, were Monday, March 7,
at 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home, with Reverends
Larry Moore, Vance Rushing and Glen Cooley officiating. Military graveside
services followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Flippin, a retired inspector for the U.S. Army at the Milan Army Ammunition
Plant, died Saturday, March 5, at his residence. He was a native of the Big Buck
Community in Carroll County.
He was born January 19, 1931, to the late James Allen Flippin and Mary Gertrude
McAlexander Flippin. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, the
McKenzie Jaycees, a post senior vice commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 4939 in McKenzie, and a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean Conflict
era in Germany. He was discharged from the Army as a private first class and
served with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, June Chandler Flippin; a daughter, Stacy (Donnie)
Rina Beasley of McKenzie; a son, Charles (Kathy) Michael Flippin; two sisters,
Aline Lowe and Martha Jean (Lyndol) Glisson, both of McKenzie; three brothers,
Neil Flippin, Richard (Margaret) Flippin, and Bobby (Velta) Flippin, all of
McKenzie; a grandson, Brandon Flippin, and a great-grandson, Zack Flippin, both
of McKenzie; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Flippin, of Eads.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth French, and a brother, James
Flippin.
Ailene McCadams
1918-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for Ailene McCadams, 86, were Sunday, March 6, at 2:00
p.m. in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with Reverends John
Pugh and Harrell Nations officiating. Interment followed in the Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. McCadams, widow of Reuben Earl McCadams, was retired from the Mutual of
Omaha Insurance Company. She died Thursday, March 3, at McKenzie Regional
Hospital.
She was born April 17, 1918, in McKenzie, to the late Roy Ridley and Katie
Bowden Ridley. She was a member of the McKenzie United Methodist Church. She was
preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Ridley, Rachel Ridley and Eddie
Hickman; a brother, Otto Ridley; a niece, Ruth Ridley Carr; and three nephews,
Gordon Hickman, Douglas Hickman and Frank “Bobby” Ridley.
Survivors include five stepsons, Ronnie McCadams of Milan, Darrell McCadams of
McKenzie, Mike McCadams of Dresden, and Hansel McCadams and Tansel McCadams,
both of Paris; several nieces and nephews: Duane (Opal) Ridley, Joe (Mary)
Ridley, Joyce (Bill) Driskell, Gaylon (Joann) Hickman and Sylvia Hickman, all of
McKenzie; and a special friend, Ernest Black, Jr., of McKenzie.
Thelma Tilman Sampson
1916-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for Thelma Tilman Townes Sampson, 88, were Saturday,
March 5, at 2:00 p.m., at Enon Baptist Church with the Reverends Dennis Beal and
Arthur Bain officiating. Interment followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Sampson, widow of Otis Sampson and a homemaker and factory worker, died
Tuesday, March 1, at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
She was born December 7, 1916, in McKenzie, to the late James McDonald “Mack”
Townes and Myrtice McNeil Townes. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She
was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Jamie Townes, Maurice Townes
and Lena Ownby.
Survivors include four daughters, Sue Coleman of McKenzie, Kay Sampson, and Fay
Sampson and Carolyn Nechtman, all of Augusta, Georgia; two sisters, Laura
Delaney and Frances Curtis, both of McKenzie; five grandchildren, Phillip
Coleman, Kim Wiggins, Douglas Coleman, Tillman Nechtman and Chalet Nechtman; and
five great-grandchildren.
Carnell Newbill
1916-2005
HUNTINGDON: Services for Carnell Newbill, 88, were held Saturday, March 5,
at 1:00 p.m. at the Reedy Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Nelson
Falls officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Newbill died on Friday, March 4, at the Huntingdon Health & Rehabilitation
Center.
He was born July 24, 1916, in Carroll County to the late Leon and Lula Adams
Newbill. He was a retired custodian for the ITT Corporation and a member of
Reedy Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Leon
Newbill, and a brother, Curtis Newbill.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ardell Newbill; four daughters, Shirley
Porter of Huntingdon, Doris Milton of Fort Washington, Maryland, Swayzene
Newbill of McLemoresville and Frances Robinson of Oxon Hill, Maryland; four
sons, Othell Newbill of McLemoresville, Charles Newbill of Ridgely, Maryland,
Rogers Newbill of Milan and Stanley Newbill of McLemoresville; 22 grandchildren;
and 35 great-grandchildren.
Leontine “Tina” Blankenship
1929-2005
NORTONSVILLE, KENTUCKY: Services for Leontine “Tina” Blankenship, 75, were
Tuesday, March 1, at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonsville. Interment was in New
Salem Cemetery in Nortonsville.
Mrs. Blankenship died Saturday, February 26, after a long illness. She was born
in Nortonsville, but lived most of her life in Detroit, Michigan. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Blankenship.
Survivors include five daughters: Carol A. Burks of McKenzie; Glenda Craft of
Taylor, Michigan; Lorraine and son-in-law Jack Roberts of McKenzie; Tammy Dauss
of Traverse City, Michigan; and Tina Blankenship of Jonesborough; one sister,
Mary Kaffenbarger of Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Raymond Pendley of Madisonville,
Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
John James “Teddy” Gilkey
1907-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for John James “Teddy” Gilkey, 98, were at 3:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 6, at Brummitt Funeral Home with Brother Jim Roberts officiating.
Interment following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Gilkey, a retired logger and farmer, died Wednesday, March 2, at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
He was born November 12, 1907, in McKenzie, to the late James Marion Gilkey and
Elizabeth Isabella Ezzell Gilkey. He was a member of the McKenzie Church of
Christ.
There were no immediate survivors.
J.C. Tucker
1919-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for J.C. Tucker, 85, were at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, March 6,
at Brummitt Funeral Home with the Reverends Jessie Hawkins and Don Bowlin
officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Tucker, a retired mechanic for the Tennessee State Highway Department, died
Friday, March 4, at Oak Manor Health Care Center.
He was born May 3, 1919, in Dresden, to the late John Henry Tucker and Clercy
Moubrey Tucker. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sudie Campbell Tucker; a son, James Hal Tucker of
McKenzie, and a sister, Minnie Jane McKnight of Greenfield.
Frances Leona Reynolds
1929-2005
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Frances Leona Reynolds, 75, will be conducted on
Wednesday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Brother
Tim Gentile officiating. Interment will follow in McBride Cemetery.
Mrs. Reynolds died Monday, March 7, at the Life Care Center in Bruceton.
The family will receive friends in the Cherry Wood Room of the funeral home from
5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
Mrs. Reynolds was born August 11, 1929, in Hornersville, Missouri, to the late
Jeffo and Lucy Helton Shands. She retired from the clothing industry in retail
sales and was a member of the Bruceton Church of Christ. She was preceded in
death by one daughter, Linda Marie Vaughn and two brothers, Mitchell Shands and
Glen Hale Shands.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Dewell Reynolds; three sons, Dennis
Wayne Vaughn of Clarkrange, Edward Allen Vaughn of Smyrna and Tony Lee Vaughn of
Carrollton, Georgia; two stepsons, Marty Reynolds of California and Clay
Reynolds of Smyrna; three stepdaughters, Darlene Harvelle of Murfreesboro,
Michelle Ramano of Washington state and Dixie Lee Hawes of Franklin; two
sisters, Kitty Funderburk of Steele, Missouri, and Cathy Henry of Hornersville,
Missouri; 20 grandchildren; and several grandchildren.
Sue Blackwell Stewart
1919-2005
HUNTINGDON: Services for Sue Blackwell Stewart, 85, were conducted at 11:00
a.m., Tuesday, March 8, at the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jim Holt
officiating. Interment followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Stewart died on Saturday, March 5, at Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born July 29, 1919, to the late Calvin and Etta Liza Toombs Blackwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylon Stewart. She was a retired
employee of Wilker Brothers and a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, James L. Stewart; two sisters, Louise Fuller and Alene
Carter; one brother, Virgil Blackwell of Huntingdon; one grandson and two

Richard “Dick” Stephens Wahl, Sr.
1935-2005
GLEASON: Services for Richard “Dick” Stephens Wahl, Sr., were conducted at
11:00 a.m., Monday, March 7, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Paris. Mr. Wahl
died at his home on Thursday, March 3.
He was born March 2, 1935, to the late Steve and Betty Klostermann Wahl. He was
a retired security guard for Watertower Place Security and was a Marine veteran.
Survivors include a son, Rich Wahl, Jr. of Unionville; two daughters, Karen Wahl
Mitchell of Gleason and Beth Wahl Collins of Latham; three brothers, Ken Wahl of
Clancy, Montana, Bill Wahl of Naperville, Illinois and Danny Wahl of Chicago,
Illinois; two sisters, Bonnie Kist of Greenwood, Indiana and Barbara Voldering
of Chicago, Illinois; and three grandchildren.

George Daniel “Danny” Bradberry
1952-2005
GLEASON: George Daniel “Danny” Bradberry, 52, died Friday, March 4, at
McKenzie Regional Hospital. The body was cremated.
Mr. Bradberry, disabled, was born September 17, 1952, in Paris.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Dawn Waller Bradberry; his mother, Martha Sue
Owen Bradberry of Gleason; a brother, Gary Bradberry of Alexandria, Virginia and
two sisters, Linda Gibbons of Pinson and Shelia Keeling of Gleason.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Edward Bradberry, and a brother,
Larry Bradberry.
Marion Leon Nanney
1935-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for Marion Leon Nanney, 69, were at 2:00 p.m., Friday,
March 4, at Enon Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Beal officiating. Burial was in
the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Nanney, retired from Ford Motor Co., died Tuesday, March 1, at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
He was born July 24, 1935, in Maysville, Oklahoma. He was a sergeant with the
11th Airborne Division Screaming Eagles; a 32nd degree Mason, Lake Lodge #157
F.&A.&M., Crown Point, Indiana; Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of South
Bend; and a member of Enon Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Sue Beal Nanney; his mother, Gladys
Irene Kemp Nanney; his father, Andrew Lacy Nanney; his stepfather, Marion Brown;
and a brother, Richard Brown.
Survivors include a son, Wayne (Tammy) Nanney of Georgetown, Texas; three
daughters, Linda (Rich) Pitcher of St. Johns, Indiana, Connie Nanney of Austin,
Texas and Elizabeth (Rick) Heath of McKenzie; two brothers, Frank Nanney of
Tishomingo, Oklahoma and Fred Brown of Ardmore, Oklahoma; a sister, Margaret
Sporeleader of Colquitt, Georgia; caregiver, Amber King; nine grandchildren, Kim
Gilliard, Keith Nanney, Meredith Nanney, Jerred Nanney, Ashley Snodgrass, Ashley
Heath, Aaron Lemmon, Songia Lemmon and Kameron Nanney; and four
great-grandchildren, Paige, Colby, Jordian and Lily.
Sharon F. Wheet
1960-2005
MCKENZIE: Services for Sharon F. Wheet, 44, were at 10:00 a.m., Friday,
March 4, at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Beal officiating. Interment
was in Bethel Cemetery in Huntingdon.
Mrs. Wheet, a factory worker, died Wednesday, March 2, at her residence.
She was born May 5, 1960, in Huntingdon, to the late Pearl Lee Wilson and Betty
Chester Wilson.
Survivors include her husband, MacArthur Wheet; two daughters, Misty Azbill and
Pamela Bell, both of McKenzie; two stepdaughters, Melinda Wallace and Angie
Christman, both of McKenzie; six brothers, Ronnie Wilson, Billy Wilson, Thomas
Wilson, James Wilson, Leroy Wilson and Terry Wilson, all of Huntingdon; four
sisters, Norma Hughes of Camden and Brenda Kirkland, Judy Snow and Bonnie
Wilson, all of Huntingdon; special sisters-in-law, Lucille Blaylock and Jessie
Cude; three grandchildren, Ashley Azbill, Haley Edmiston and Dustin Bell; and
three step-grandchildren, Leslie Wheet, Shane Wheet and Bailey Christman.
Betty Jean Butler
1947-2005
HERMITAGE: Graveside services for Betty Jean Butler, 57, were at 3:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, March 8, at McCauley Cemetery in Buena Vista with Brother Jerry Drye
officiating. Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris was in charge of the arrangements.
Miss Butler, a supervisor at Nashville Electric Service, died Sunday, March 6,
at Summitt Medical Center in Hermitage.
She was born December 21, 1947, in McKenzie.
Survivors include her mother, Eula Gee Worrell Butler of Bruceton; a brother,
Bobby Butler of McKenzie and several nieces and nephews, all of Henry.
Duward Lander Snyder
1913-2005
PARIS: Services for Duward Lander Snyder, 91, were at 11:00 a.m., Monday,
March 7, at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home with the Reverends Jerry W.
Massey and Charles Orr officiating. Interment followed in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mr. Snyder, a retired metalworker for Ellis Heating Company, died Saturday,
March 5, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris.
He was born July 1, 1913, in Paris, to the late George Washington Snyder and Eva
Zanie Allen Snyder. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two stepsons, Don Matlock of Paris and Dennis Matlock of
McKenzie; five step-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavinia McFadden Snyder; a
stepdaughter-in-law, Joyce Matlock; a sister, Ellie Hoofman; and two brothers,
John David Snyder and William Howard Snyder.
Bernice Nixon Bodiford
1936-2005
SELMER: Services for Bernnice Nixon Bodiford, 68, were held at 3:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, March 7, at Shackelford Funeral Home in Selmer with interment in
Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Bodiford, widow of Ray Bodiford, died Sunday, March 6.
She was a member of the Fourth Street Church of Christ, executive committee
member for the McNairy County Republican Party and former member of the McNairy
Regional Hospital Board of Directors.
Survivors include a daughter, Rene Kizer of Henderson; a son, Richie Bodiford of
Michie; a sister, Betty Ann Young of McKenzie; a brother, Danny Nixon of Ramer;
and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the Ray and Bernice Bodiford Memorial Scholarship Fund,
c/o Home Banking Company in Selmer.
Lena B. Griffin
MCKENZIE: Services for Lena B. Griffin, 92, were held Tusday, March 1, at
1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield with Brother Dennis Beal
officiating. Interment followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Griffin, a homemaker, died Monday, February 28, at McKenzie Regional
Hospital.
She was born September 6, 1912, in Gleason, to the late Joe Bynum and Bertie
Crocker. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.B. Griffin.
Survivors include a son, L.J. Griffin of Greenfield and fifteen grandchildren. |
