An early Saturday morning fire claimed the life of
44-year-old Cynthia Carol Himes of 103 Cecil Lane,
Huntingdon, according to Carroll County Coroner
Steve Cantrell.
The cause of fire has not yet been determined, according
to Cantrell. However, there is no suspicion of foul play
at this time, pending further investigation by the
Tennessee Bomb and Arson Unit, Carroll County Sheriff’s
Department, and Carroll County Medical Examiner’s
office.
According to Cantrell, off-duty Deputy Tommy Decanter
spotted the blaze at a mobile home park as he was
traveling along Highway 22 North, just south of
Huntingdon at approximately 4:45 a.m.
Decanter approached the home and discovered no one was
near the residence, which was fully engulfed upon his
arrival. He initiated an emergency response team, which
included members of Carroll County Rural Fire
Department. Arriving on the scene were firefighters from
Huntingdon District 1 Fire Department, along with
firefighters from Clarksburg and Westport.
The victim’s remains were found in a bathroom in the
rear of the residence, according to Cantrell, who
pronounced her at 7:15 a.m.
The rental home occupied by Himes was destroyed.
However, a mobile home situated 15 yards or less away
from the burning structure, did not sustain any damage.
The body was sent for autopsy to the Tennessee Medical
Examiner in Nashville to determine cause and manner of
death.
Ms. Himes resided alone at the mobile home. She is the
daughter of Jack and Carol Hopper of Bruceton. |

Commission to Budget $68,000 for Fire Marshal Changes |
|
|
|
 |
HUNTINGDON- Construction changes to meet the fire
marshal's requirements cost the county an additional
$68,000 on the renovation of the Carroll County
Courthouse. County commissioners will vote to
appropriate the funds for the unexpected expenditures
during their November 13 meeting.
Carroll County Mayor Kenny McBride said the changes were
necessary to obtain a certificate of occupancy for the
courthouse. The construction changes were mandated after
the architectural plans were approved and signed by the
Fire Marshal's office in Nashville.
In other resolutions, the commission will consider
resolutions:
*to apply for an Airport Improvement Grant from the
Tennessee Department of Transportation Aeronautics
Division. The request is for a 90 percent grant, with a
10 percent local match, for the resurfacing of the
5,500-foot runway, a new concrete pad for the fuel
tanks, and to complete the safe-landing zone on the
south end of the runway. McBride estimated the total
project at $1.3 million.
*to file a request with the Tennessee General Assembly
to allow the county to increase its litigation tax by
$10 for the purpose of jail or workhouse construction,
reconstruction or upgrading, or to retire debt or for
courthouse renovation. McBride said the additional tax
would generate $32,000 annually.
*to appoint a Court Security Committee consisting of
Mayor McBride, Sheriff Bendell Bartholomew, District
Attorney Hansel McCadams, Circuit Judge Donald Parish,
and Clerk and Master Kenneth Todd.
*to approve the transfer of funds from the RSVP's
individual checking account into the County budget.
McBride said the transfer was recommended by the
auditors. |
