Minnie Norden Lewis
1911-2006
HUNTINGDON: Minnie Norden Lewis, 94, died Monday,
January 9, at her home. Funeral services were conducted
on Tuesday, January 10, at New Crossroads Missionary
Baptist Church. Interment followed in the New Crossroads
Cemetery. Brother Rufus Chandler officiated.
Mrs. Lewis was born October 9, 1911, in Carroll County,
to the late James T. and Martha Elizabeth Melton Norden.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New Crossroads
Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Connie Lewis,
on September 14, 1997, and three sisters: Ludie Noles,
Tessie Bailey, and Nadine James.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Bullington of
Huntingdon and Martha (Jimmy) Williams of Hollow Rock;
three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
William Leo "Bill" Thompson
1962-2006
CEDAR GROVE: William Leo "Bill" Thompson, 43, died
Sunday, January 8, at Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday,
January 10, in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home.
Interment followed in the Palestine Cemetery with
Masonic rites. Bro. Martin Klamm officiated.
Mr. Thompson was born April 23, 1962, in Ft. Lewis,
Washington. He graduated high school in Trezevant in
1980, retired from the Milan Fire Department, was an Air
Force veteran, and a member of the Juno Masonic Lodge
#443, where he was a past master.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances
(Newsome) Thompson, and one brother, Gary Thompson.
He is survived by his father, Jim (Betsy) Thompson; one
daughter, Amy Thompson; two sons, Craig (Julie) Thompson
and James Thompson, all of Cedar Grove; three sisters:
Gail Carr of Cedar Grove, Linda (Danny) Rees of Lavinia;
and Tammy Griffin of Oak Field; and one brother, Jimmy
Thompson of Milan.
J.W. Butler
1926-2006
TREZEVANT: J.W. Butler, 79, died Sunday, January 8,
at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral
services were conducted Tuesday, January 10, at Brummitt
Funeral Home in Trezevant with Bro. Malcolm Norton
officiating. Burial followed in Trezevant Cemetery.
Mr. Butler was born November 1, 1926, in Bruceton, to
the late Edd Butler and Beulah Smothers Butler. He was
retired from Henry I. Siegel, a World War II Navy
veteran, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars and First Baptist Church in Trezevant.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Butler.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Butler of Trezevant;
one son, Danny Butler of Virginia; two step-sons,
Randall Crocker of McLemoresville and Tim Woods of
Puryear; one step-daughter, Kim Woods of Mississippi;
one brother, Edward (Ann) Butler of Bruceton; one
sister, Rachel Joyner of Nashville; and eight
grandchildren.
Neal Rich
1964-2006
HUNTINGDON: Neal Rich, 41, died Saturday, January 7,
in Marion, Indiana. Funeral services will be conducted
at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, in the chapel of
Dilday Funeral Home, with interment to follow in the
Bethel Cemetery. Brother Scott Carter and Brother Bryan
Oakes will officiate the service.
Mr. Rich was born December 9, 1964, in Huntingdon. He
was an electrical technician for Mid-States Electrical.
He is survived by his parents, Glendon and Pat Rich; one
daughter, Meredith Kae Rich; and one son, Dexter Neal
Rich, all of Huntingdon; one sister Paula (Kelly)
Colvett of Huntingdon; and two brothers Matt (Amy) Rich
of Burns, Tenn., and Mark Rich of Huntingdon.
Opal Belle Doster
1902-2006
GLEASON: Opal Belle Doster, 103, died Friday,
January 6, at the Weakley County Nursing Home in
Dresden. Services were conducted Monday, January 9, in
the chapel of Gallimore Funeral Home with the Rev.
Donald Doster officiating. Burial followed in Hopewell
Cemetery.
Mrs. Doster, a homemaker, was born December 1, 1902, in
Bradford, to the late Clip Mack and Meadie Hollandsworth
Ward. She was a member of Locust Grove Church of Christ
in Bradford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Hampton,
and four sons: Alton Doster, Clifford Doster, Howard
Doster, and Thomas Doster.
Survivors include three daughters: Meadie Lipowski of
Chicago, Ruby Hargrove of McKenzie, and Carol Williams
of Gleason; 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren;
and 41 great-great-grandchildren
Vaughn James Todd
1926-2006
HUNTINGDON: Vaughn James Todd, 79, died Thursday,
January 5, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
January 7, at the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon.
Interment followed in the Bear Creek Cemetery in
Parsons. Bro. Fred Ward officiated. Chase Funeral Home
was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Todd was born September 16, 1926, in Decatur County,
to the late Hubert Henry Todd and Gussie Lee (Ivy) Todd.
He was a retired factory worker for the Milan Arsenal, a
World War II Army veteran, and a member of the First
Baptist Church in Huntingdon.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rhea
(Montgomery) Todd; one daughter, Darla (Morris) Kirby;
and one son, Steve Todd, all of Huntingdon; one sister,
Fay Tolley of Blytheville, Arkansas; one brother, Fred
Todd of Darden; two grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
William Alan Frensley
1926-2006
HUNTINGDON: William Alan Frensley, 79, died
Thursday, January 5, at Oak Manor Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7, at
McEvoy Funeral Home Chapel in Paris. Burial followed in
Bevill Cemetery. Pastor Corey Meggs officiated.
Mr. Frensley was born January 29, 1926, in Mansfield, to
the late Hugh Frensley and Charlie Tharpe Porter
Frensley, both deceased. He was a World War II veteran
of the U.S. Navy. He was a retired teamster truck drive,
a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years
in the California area, and a Baptist. He was the second
great-grandson of John Wesley Cotton and third
great-grandson of Davy Crockett.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Hazel
Claudine Frensley, on August 22, 2005; one son, James
Frensley; seven sisters, Bernice Cannon Flanagan, Sarah
Sumner, Bera Caldwell, Vera Crawford, Valice Ford, Agnes
Thomas, and Julia Zupinic; and three brothers, Lou
"Buddy" Gregson, Curtis Frensley, and Charles Kenneth
Frensley.
Survivors include three daughters: Ellen (Andy) Tabada
of Huntingdon, Joyce (Al) Santana of Galt, California,
and Sherri Carvalho of Paris; three sons: William Ken
(Deloris) Frensley of Henry; Randy Frensley of Detroit,
Michigan; and Hugh Frensley of Oklahoma; one brother,
Quincey Gregson of Paris; 22 grandchildren; 35
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Amos Mann
1915-2006
MCKENZIE: Amos Mann, 90, died Wednesday, January 4,
at Henry County Medical Center in Paris. Funeral
services were held Saturday, January 7, at Brummitt
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Pilgrim's Rest
Cemetery. Bro. Aaron Holmes officiated.
Mr. Mann was born September 10, 1915, in McKenzie, to
Abner and Nola Butler Mann, both deceased. He was a
retired electrician and retired from the Milan Arsenal.
He was a Mason, World War II Navy veteran, and a member
of Pilgrim's Rest Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Mann.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Williams Mann of
McKenzie; one son, Larry (Suzan) Mann of Greenfield; one
daughter, Ann Mann of McKenzie; one nephew, William
Mann; five grandchildren: Brent Mann, Shane (Cindy)
Mann, Sarah (Kenny) Mann, Greg Mann, and Doug (Suzanne)
Mann; nine great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
Willis Leonard Clark
1921-2005
HUNTINGDON: Willis Leonard Clark, 84, died
Wednesday, January 4, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday,
January 5, in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home.
Interment followed in the Hampton Cemetery. Bro. Kevin
Gallimore officiated the service.
Mr. Clark was born July 21, 1921, in Frisbee, Missouri,
to the late Joe Clark and Minnie Pearl (Martin) Clark.
He was a retired surveyor and attended General Baptist
Church.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe C. Clark.
He is survived by one son, Mike (Genny) Tucker of
Huntingdon; one brother, Cecil Clark of St. Louis,
Missouri; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; and
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Royal Arnold "R.A." Blankenship
1925-2006
HUNTINGDON: Royal Arnold "R.A." Blankenship, 80,
died Wednesday, January 4, at Baptist Memorial Hospital
in Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on
Saturday, January 7, in the chapel of Chase Funeral
Home. Interment followed in Clark Cemetery. Dr. Paul
Mullikin officiated. Chase Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Blankenship was born December 20, 1925, in
Lexington, to the late W.D. Blankenship and Zula Mae
(Scott) Blankenship. He was a member of Faith Methodist
Church in Lauderdale County and was a World War II Army
veteran.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Dennis
Blankenship and one brother, Charles Blankenship.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Annis May
Blankenship; one son, Michael Blankenship of Franklin;
three stepchildren: Linda (Robert "Gus") Radford of
Huntingdon, Lucy (Bobby) Mullins of Henning, and James
K.(Josie) Sides of Coldwater, Mississippi; three
brothers: Gill Blankenship of Oneida, Tenn., Jim
Blankenship of Decatur, Alabama, and Ray Blankenship of
New Johnsonville; two sisters, Mary Gladys of Camden and
Pattie Waugh of Knoxville; one grandchild; one
great-grandchild, six step-grandchildren and eight
step-great-grandchildren.
Richard L. Welch
1932-2006
LAVINIA: Richard L. Welch, 73, died Tuesday, January
3, at his residence. Services were conducted Thursday,
January 5, at Bodkin Funeral Home with Rev. Robert
Barger and Rev. Wayne Holmes officiating. Interment
followed in Shiloh Cemetery.
Mr. Welch was born March 17, 1932, in Gibson County, to
the late Eboth and Gladys Welch of Lavinia. He was a
graduate of Trezevant High School, class of 1950, and
Bethel College. He retired from teaching at West Carroll
in 1995, when he received many honors and awards for his
lifetime of teaching, coaching, and community service.
He was a veteran, teacher, coach, and minister.
He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a
Methodist minister serving numerous churches in this
area.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Welch; one
daughter, Teresa (Johnny) Wall; and one granddaughter.
The family requests memorials be sent to Shiloh Cemetery
Fund.
James E. Calhoon
1927-2006
OXFORD, ARKANSAS: James E. Calhoon, 78, died
Tuesday, January 3, in Arkansas.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Monday,
January 9, at New Crossroads Cemetery. Dilday Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Calhoon was born March 31, 1927, in Illinois, to the
late James Edward and Irene Pafford Calhoon. He was a
self-employed carpenter.
He is survived by a cousin, Nettie Jordan of McKenzie.
Leslie A. Haugen
1916-2006
MCKENZIE: Leslie A. Haugen, 90, died Tuesday,
January 3, at Gateway Hospital of Clarksville from
complications of pneumonia. A memorial service will be
held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, at First United
Methodist Church in McKenzie with Rev. Harrell Nations,
Jr. officiating. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home of
Clarksville was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Haugen was born January 14, 1916, in Mobridge, South
Dakota. He later moved to Ipswich, South Dakota, where
he graduated with honors and a football scholarship from
the University of South Dakota.
He graduated in 1939 with a law degree and was
immediately hired as a special agent with the FBI.
During his career, he was responsible for the
apprehension of the last listed "most wanted" as he and
another agent captured Charlie Chapman in Philadelphia,
Mississippi. He worked on "Spy Rings" during World War
II and received commendations from then-director J.
Edgar Hoover.
After leaving the FBI, he became self employed as a
personnel management consultant and was asked to join
Republic Builders in McKenzie as director of human
resources at the age of 60. He taught personnel
administration at Bethel College, was president of the
Rotary Club, a teacher at the First United Methodist
Church, director of the Administrative Council and
President of the Men's Club. He was appointed McKenzie
city judge and served in that position for five years.
He lived in McKenzie for over 24 years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; one stepdaughter,
Laura Labatt of Clarksville; two sons Gordon and Gene of
Minneapolis, Minnesota; one stepson Allen Labatt, also
of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hilldale Methodist Church, of
which he was a member, or the First United Methodist
Church of McKenzie.
Jesse Ray Ross
1927-2006
LEXINGTON: Jesse Ray Ross, 78, died Monday, January
2, in Nashville. Services were conducted Thursday,
January 5, at First Baptist Church in Lexington with Dr.
Hoyt Wilson, Dr. Mike Adams, and Bro. Richard Savage
officiating. Burial followed in Lexington Cemetery.
Pafford Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Ross was born July 16, 1927, in Huntingdon, to the
late Cauley and Effie Kelley Ross. He was a World War II
Navy veteran, a retired transportation manager for H.I.S.
in Bruceton, a member of First Baptist Church in
Lexington, and a former Lions Club member and Mason in
Bruceton.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Guy,
Raymond, and Carl Ross; and two sisters, Charlene Tucker
and Marilyn Ross.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Marie
Ross of Lexington; his daughter, Judy (Gary) Wilkinson
of Lexington; a brother, Billy F. (Nelle) Ross of
Nashville; two sisters, Bonnie Sue (Clayton) Davis of
Shelimar, Florida, and Retha Edwards of Nashville; two
grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Mamie Jo Pate
1933-2006
MCKENZIE: Mamie Jo Pate, 72, died Monday, January 2,
at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Services were conducted
Thursday, January 5, at Fairview Baptist Church.
Interment followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Bro. Tim
Coleman officiated. McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.
Mrs. Pate was born May 8, 1933, in Atwood, to the late
Clarence and Lizzie Hopper Dunlap. She was a minister's
wife and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. James
"Jimmy" Pate and her daughter, Demetra Ann Pate.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Pate of Springville
and Danny Joe (Brenda) Pate of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; one
sister, Carol Walker of Rutherford; four grandchildren;
one special brother-in-law, Bobby Pate of McKenzie; and
special sister-in-law, Helen Vick of Dyersburg.
Ruth Thedford Goodman
Ruth Thedford Goodman died Thursday, December 29, at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted Sunday, January 1, at Shelton
Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mrs. Goodman, the daughter of the late William A. and
Rena Gregory Thedford, was a retired employee of Gibson
Electric Membership Corporation. She was a former
McKenzie resident and remained a member of First
Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McKenzie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence
Goodman, and her sister, Louise Thedford Ward.
Survivors include one son, Edward Lynn Goodman of
Jackson; a brother, Robert Denney Thedford of McKenzie;
two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. |
