Huntingdon Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Child
Pornography Charges; Local Rape Charges Pending |
|
|
 |

A Huntingdon man has pleaded guilty to charges of
producing child pornography involving an eight-year-old
girl, according to federal officials.
Scott Farthing, 35, Woodlawn Avenue, entered his plea in
federal court in Memphis Wednesday. He is charged with
producing child pornography, engaging in sexually
explicit conduct and possession of child pornography.
Farthing, who was charged in May 2006 in a multi-count
indictment, could face up to 40 years in prison.
He was originally arrested in Carroll County on the
state charge of aggravated rape of a child and federal
charge of possession of child pornography.
Sentencing in the federal case is set for November 16
before U.S. District Court Judge Bernice B. Donald.
Farthing remains in custody pending his sentencing.
The state charges are pending in Carroll County for rape
of a child, according to a Circuit Court clerk, who
noted local authorities were awaiting conclusion of the
federal case.
The indictment resulted from an investigation by
Huntingdon police and member agencies of the Memphis
Crimes Against Children Task Force – the FBI, Shelby
County sheriff’s office, Immigration and Customs
Enforcement and Memphis police.
The case came to light when the eight-year-old female
reportedly talked to a teacher at her school, after
viewing a film at the school concerning proper and
improper touching, said Lt. Johnny Hill of the
Huntingdon Police Department. The child, who resided in
Kentucky, reportedly told the teacher she had been
sexually assaulted by her step-father. She also stated
Farthing had taken nude photos of her and placed them on
the computer at their home in Huntingdon. The teacher
contacted Kentucky Family Services and an investigation
began involving the eight-year-old victim, as well as a
Farthing’s three-year-old biological daughter.
The alleged assault is believed to have occurred in the
fall of 2005, just before the mother and children left
Huntingdon to move to Kentucky, according to Lt. Hill.
Both children have undergone medical examination, which
indicated possible sexual abuse in both children, said
Hill.
Hill and four agents from the FBI Task Force arrested
Farthing at his Huntingdon home on May 10, 2006. On
February 23, 2006, Hill and officers of the Huntingdon
Police Department confiscated Farthing’s computer, CDs,
floppy disks and VHS tapes. Pornographic material was
later found on the computer.
Hill, who personally conducted an interview with the
eight-year-old victim, “said she was able to describe in
detail what happened to her. She also told us about the
photos being placed on the computer.”
Both children currently live with their aunt in
Massachusetts. |

Todd Mulvaney(left), president and CEO of Plastimayd and
Kevin Shea, owner of Vyn-All announce the merging of
their two companies.
MCKENZIE – Vyn-all Products, a swimming pool liner
manufacturing company with a McKenzie plant, merged with
Plastimayd Pool Products, based in Oregon City, Oregon.
The merger creates the second largest swimming pool
manufacturer in the industry.
Kevin Shea, owner of Vyn-All, and Todd Mulvaney,
president and CEO of Plastimayd announced the merger
last week in McKenzie. The cultures of the two companies
are similar in nature. Plastimayd is mainly in the
western U.S. and Vyn-All in the east. Both have a
significant presence in the south. The merger provides a
nationwide marketing scheme.
In the pool industry, both companies are regarded as
having the highest quality product and very extensive
product knowledge. This unbeatable combination of
quality and knowledge, with the ability to handle the
most difficult applications, will create unparalleled
value in a complete package for the dealer.
The 112,000 square-foot McKenzie facility, located on
Locust Avenue, is one of four production facilities,
spread nationwide in Newmarket, New Hampshire, Bossier
City, Louisiana, and Oregon City, Oregon. The locations
will improve efficiencies, reduce shipping costs, and
cut delivery times. Shea said the merger will bolster
sales and growth at all four plants. The company
manufactures in-ground and above-ground pool liners,
pool safety covers, and dome enclosures.
Vyn-All has approximately 50 employees in the McKenzie
plant. Tony Dill, Sr. is the plant manager in McKenzie.
The management and employees at all plants will remain.

HUNTINGDON (August 16) Carroll County
fire officials are requesting residents of the county to
refrain from any burning because of extreme drought
conditions. Any minor spark under the extreme dry
conditions could result in igniting fires and resulting
in major damages.
Carroll County Fire Chief Terry
Bradshaw, Trezevant Fire Chief Danny Curtis, and Atwood
Fire Chief Tommy Robinson all discourage anyone from
burning anything until further notice and hope that
citizens will comply with these wishes. This for no
burning includes fireworks as well.
