Frank Taylor, Former County Official, Dies

J. Frank Taylor, age 96, died Monday, November 19, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Taylor was the former Carroll County School superintendent, county trustee (1946-1950), and distributor of Pure Oil Company in Huntingdon. He was a founding member of the Huntingdon Rotary Club and the first member of Carroll Arts, Inc.

Taylor was a Hall of Fame athlete at UT-Martin, where he was inducted February 19, 1983. He played football (1926-1931), basketball (1931), and baseball (1929-1930) for U.T. Junior College, which later became U.T.-Martin.

He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as lieutenant commander of the U.S. Navy. He served on the Tennessee Board of Education, and the Tennessee Board of Regents. He was a teacher, coach, Carroll County School Superintendent and first state director of physical education.
