With the holiday season underway, it’s
time to make plans to attend the fifth
annual McKenzie’s Hometown Christmas, which
gets underway November 30 and continues
through December 8.
This year, many new activities are in the
works. The event is sponsored and
coordinated annually by McKenzie Lions Club
and sponsored by the City of McKenzie,
McKenzie Regional Hospital, Carroll Bank &
Trust, McKenzie Banking Company, Bank of
Gleason, Regions Bank, and Modern Woodmen of
America, Angie Hopper, local agent.
“We aren’t a big city, we are your hometown.
This festival is a great opportunity for
families to enjoy the fun that only a small
town can provide,” said Cheryl Hubbard,
president of McKenzie Lions Club. “You can
enjoy some entertainment, see your
neighbors, and support the good works that
the Lions Club does for the community. There
have been so many who have helped behind the
scenes. We want to thank them and especially
our sponsors.”
There will be parades, horse-drawn carriage
rides, train rides, stagecoach rides,
hayrides, carnival, petting zoo, cake walk,
inflatables, climbing wall, mechanical bull,
musical programs, quilt show, zoom bash, and
concessions.
Many of the activities are free of charge,
whole others bear a small charge.
The official beginning of the hometown
Christmas weekend begins with opening
ceremonies and Relay for Life Love Lights a
Tree Ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday on the
downtown square, with entertainment provided
by The Rebel Singers. Relay For Life Love
Lights a Tree Ceremony will also be part of
the opening ceremony.
Other Friday and Saturday events include
Bethel Festival of Lights, from 6 – 10 p.m.
each evening and SUW Wrestling at 7 p.m.
Friday. Bethel College Renaissance is
presenting a Christmas programs of music at
various times Friday, November 30, Saturday
and Sunday, December 1-2, and Friday and
Saturday, December 7-8.
Other Saturday events include Breakfast with
Santa, Calvary Tabernacle Holiday Bazaar,
Carroll County Humane Society Dog Show, MBC
Sack Lunch Sale, Cub Scout Cook-out, Kiwanis
Hot Cocoa and Cider, and Fire Department
Open House.
Santa Claus will be at the depot Saturday
1:30 – 4 p.m. and following the parade.
Three residential homes are a part of this
year’s open house event on Friday, December
7 and Saturday, December 8, 6 – 8 p.m.
Featured will be the beautifully decorated
homes of Michelle Trevathan at 22 Plantation
Cove, Glenn and Joyce Hayes at 43 Eastwood
Drive, and Brian and Julie Cook at 63
Eastwood Drive.
Morning Glory Garden Club’s annual Christmas
luncheon will be Tuesday, December 4, 11
a.m. until 1 p.m.
