HUNTINGDON Huntingdon’s Christmas
parade is Tuesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m.
with Major Marty Towater serving as this
year’s grand marshal.
The police department has made some changes
in procedure, which should make the parade
much safer for everyone involved. Staging
begins at Edwards Park on Murray Lane and
lineup is on Clark Street toward Browning
Avenue. The parade begins on Browning Avenue
near the middle school and ends at Edwards
Park. The parade proceeds from Browning
Avenue to East Main Street and down East
Main to the Court Square. Units travel down
East Paris Street to Clark and end at
Edwards Park. This allows the parade to
begin and end in the same area, making it
easier for parade participants to return to
their vehicles.
Volunteers from the Huntingdon High School
Student Council and the Mayor’s Teen
Advisory Board are assisting the Police
Department at this year’s parade. The
volunteers will walk along the parade route
and toss candy onto the sidewalk areas to
help maintain safety goals for this parade.
Candy will not be thrown from the parade
participant vehicles as in past parades for
the safety of the small children, according
to Joe Parker, director of public safety.
Parade participants are required to
pre-register by calling the Huntingdon
Police Department at 986-2906 to be eligible
for prize monies. Parade participants are
asked to arrive early.
Participants will be assigned a parade
number when calling to pre-register and will
be responsible to make and display their
number on the vehicle’s right or passenger
side for judges to view.
