Area Christmas Parades Begin This Weekend

Carroll County towns are making plans for annual upcoming Christmas parades. Dates and basic information are provided below, with parade routes and other information to be published at a later date.

McKENZIE

McKenzie’s annual Junior Parade and Grand Parade are Saturday, December 1 in conjunction with McKenzie’s Home Town Christmas festival the week of November 30 – December 7.

The Junior Parade begins at 1 p.m. Participants includes children ages 12 and under. Registration begins at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church parking lot.

Parade units will travel onto Stonewall Street, turn onto Cedar Street and disband at McKenzie Banking Company parking lot. Four-wheelers will be allowed in the junior parade, along with decorated bicycles, tricycles, and costumed Christmas characters.

Entries will be judged prior to the parade and trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place winners.

McKenzie’s Grand Christmas Parade begins at 5:00 p.m. Participants may begin lining up for the parade at 3:30 p.m. at McKenzie Middle School.

Marty Marshall, owner of the McKenzie Railroad Depot building in McKenzie, will serve as grand marshal.

Bands, floats, decorated vehicles, marching groups, churches and organizations are invited to participate. Four-wheelers will not be allowed in the main parade. Decorated horses will lead other horse entries near the end of the parade. Santa Claus will also be a special guest on the Shriner’s train.

Parade units will travel onto Stonewall Street, turn onto Cedar Street, Waldran Street, Lee Street, Broadway Street, back onto Cedar Street and disband at McKenzie Feed and Grain.

HUNTINGDON

Huntingdon’s Christmas parade is Tuesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. with Major Marty Towater serving as this year’s grand marshal.

The police department has made some changes in procedure, which should make the parade much safer for everyone involved. Staging begins at Edwards Park on Murray Lane and lineup is on Clark Street toward Browning Avenue. The parade begins on Browning Avenue near the middle school and ends at Edwards Park. The parade proceeds from Browning Avenue to East Main Street and down East Main to the Court Square. Units travel down East Paris Street to Clark and end at Edwards Park. This allows the parade to begin and end in the same area, making it easier for parade participants to return to their vehicles.

Volunteers from the Huntingdon High School Student Council and the Mayor’s Teen Advisory Board are assisting the Police Department at this year’s parade. The volunteers will walk along the parade route and toss candy onto the sidewalk areas to help maintain safety goals for this parade. Candy will not be thrown from the parade participant vehicles as in past parades for the safety of the small children, according to Joe Parker, director of public safety.

Parade participants are required to pre-register by calling the Huntingdon Police Department at 986-2906 to be eligible for prize monies. Parade participants are asked to arrive early.

Participants will be assigned a parade number when calling to pre-register and will be responsible to make and display their number on the vehicle’s right or passenger side for judges to view.

TREZEVANT

Trezevant Christmas Parade is Monday, December 10 at 6:00 p.m. Trophies are awarded to first, second and third place winners. Participants are asked to line up at 5:00 p.m. the churches parking lot. The route will continue down Highway 79 to the school, turn onto Holmes Street, Hurt Street, travel to Highway 105 and back to the churches.

For more information, contact Danny or Phyllis Curtis at 669-7150 or Kathy at Trezevant City Hall at 669-4831.

BRUCETON

Lineup begins at 2 p.m. in the Bruceton municipal parking lot (HIS Outlet store parking lot) on Broad Street. Parking for horse trailers, etc. will be on Lexington Street at the former HIS sewing plant. Registration for all units is at the municipal parking lot on Broad Street.

The festival will begin in the park immediately following the parade. The special guest will be Santa Claus. There will be lots of fun for all ages – come join in the celebration.

Anyone wishing to enter a float, band or other marching unit can obtain information and an entry form at Bruceton City Hall or by calling 586-2401.

Cash prizes are awarded to first, second and third place winners. A grand champion is selected from all the participants.
