KENNETH WILDON OLIVER
1937-2007
TREZEVANT: Kenneth Wildon Oliver, 69, of Trezevant died
February 16 at Milan General Hospital. Services were
held February 19 at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan with
Rev. Malcolm Norton officiating. Interment followed in
the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lexington.
Mr. Oliver was born November 2, 1937 to the late William
Carthel and Jettie Bob Sadler Oliver in Gibson County.
He was retired from ITT.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Oliver,
and one stepson, Henry Harold Butler. He leaves his son,
Dale Oliver of Trezevant; two stepsons, Randy Butler of
Trezevant and Steve Butler of Shelbyville; two
stepdaughters, Teresa Butler of Trezevant and Vickie
Moss of Champagne Illinois; two grandsons and six
step-grandchildren.
OSCAR LEROY GILBERT
1928-2007
McKENZIE: Oscar Leroy Gilbert, 78, died February 15 at
McKenzie Regional Hospital. Services were held February
19 at Johnson Temple C.M.E. Church with burial following
in Greenwood Cemetery in Paris.
He was born December 14, 1928 to the late Elmore and Ida
Gilbert and was married to Fairy Bell Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents;
sisters, Jennie and Laura Mae Gilbert, Josephine
Dobbins, Georgia Adkisson; and brothers, Charlie Boy and
Fred Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife, Fairy Bell; children, Fairy
Simmons, Mary Sue Gill, Roger Lee Gilbert, Cleve Alec
Gilbert, Ricky Gilbert, Geneva Carter, Donna Lisa
Gilbert; nine grandchildren; a host of great
grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
CLETA ODESSA WILES
1932-2007
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Cleta Odessa Wiles, 74, died Saturday,
February 17, at her home. She was born June 15, 1932 to
the late Forrest Sibley Sutton and Thelma Ola (Moran)
Sutton in Livingston County, Texas.
Funeral services were Tuesday, February 20, at 11:00
a.m. in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment will
follow in the Hickory Flat Cemetery. Bro. Bryan Oaks
officiated the service.
She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by
one brother, Oscar Alan Sutton.
Survivors include: her husband of 52 years, Laron Ross
Wiles, Sr.; four daughters, Robbie Sutton (John) of
Huntingdon, Alice Powell (Nathan) of Lake Chamber,
Louisiana, Diane Brooks of Cedar Grove, Shelby Sanders
(Doug) of Huntingdon; two sons, Roger Thompson (Teri) of
Blue Goose, Laron Wiles, Jr. (Jody) of Huntingdon; five
sisters, Thelma Smith of Trezevant, Ruby Faye, Kathine
Bell, Mary Garrison, and Sarah White; two brothers,
Forrest Sutton (wife Rosa), Aubry Sutton all of Texas,
one sister-in-law Reba Wood. She also leaves 14
grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
LOTTIE OTERO TURNER
1916 - 2007
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Lottie Otero Turner, age 90, died
Wednesday, February 14, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital
in Huntingdon. She was born May 26, 1916 in Carroll
County to the late Levander Gertrude Dickerson and
Flossie Bethel (Neeley) Dickerson.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 18, at
1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment
followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Bro. Sonny Daniels
officiated the service.
She was a retired production worker for the Publix Shirt
Corporation and a member of the Bethlehem Methodist
Church. She was also preceded in death by one son, Roger
Dale Turner; three brothers, Cletus Dickerson, Hercule
Dickerson, and Bennie Dickerson.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Russell
Turner, one daughter, Edith Davis of Jackson, one son,
Gene Turner (wife Evelyn) of Huntingdon, and two
sisters, Mildred Pafford of Fort Lauderdale, Florida,
and Kathleen Kee of Hollow Rock. She also leaves seven
grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
MARY I. LAYCOOK
1928-2007
HUNTINGDON: Miss Mary I. Laycook, 78, died Sunday,
February 18, at the Harmony Hill Assisted Living.
Funeral services were conducted February 20 in the
Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment followed in the
Palmer Shelter Cemetery. Bro. Wayne Holmes officiated
the service.
Miss Laycook was born November 24, 1928 in Carroll
County to the late Alonzo Edward Laycook and Effie
(Boyd) Laycook. She was a retired housekeeper for the
Carroll County General Hospital and a member of the
Palmer Shelter United Methodist Church. She was preceded
in death by two brothers, Joe Virgil Laycook and James
Edward Laycook.
She is survived by two nephews, Pat Laycook of Martin
and Jim Laycook of Millington, two great nieces, Rachael
Laycook and Brenda Laycook.
ELMER NATHAN BRANDON
1915-2007
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Elmer Nathan Brandon, 91, died Saturday,
February 17 at the Northcrest Medical Center in
Springfield.
Funeral services were conducted February 20 at the
Chapel of Dilday Funeral Home. Interment followed in the
Sellers Hill Cemetery. Brother Bill Crossno officiated
the services.
Mr. Brandon was born December 13, 1915 in Carroll County
to the late Henry Milton and Telitha Johnson Brandon. He
was a director of Henry County Health Department and an
employee of the State of Tennessee with over 46 years of
service, for which he received recognition from Gov.
McWherter. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr.
Brandon graduated from Clarksburg High School and UT
Martin, where he was a member of the baseball team. He
was also past president of the Paris Rotary Club and a
member for over 30 years. He owned and maintained the
Brandon Family Farm adjacent to Clarksburg, which has
been in his family since 1835.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Art) Mulwitz of
Springfield, a son, Michael (Joyce) Johns Brandon of
Hendersonville, his wife, Marcile Tucker Brandon of
Paris and a sister, Brooksie Orr of Huntingdon. He also
leaves five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
LAVINA MARIE TATE
1917-2007
GRAYLING, MICHIGAN: Mrs. Lavina Marie Tate, 89, died
Saturday, February 10 at the Mercy Hospital in Michigan.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Monday,
February 19 at the Parker's Crossroads Cemetery. Brother
Tim Barker officiated the services.
Mrs. Tate was born July 10, 1917, to the late Walter and
Christina Ratsleft Glassbrook. She was preceded in death
by a son, Harold Turner.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin Tate; and two
daughters, Bonnie Furr of Virginia and Linda Addis of
Michigan.
MARGARET LEE STONE
1923-2007
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Margaret Lee Stone, 83, died Monday,
February 12 at the Jackson Madison County General
Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, February 13
in the Chapel of Dilday Funeral Home. Interment followed
in the Hebron Cemetery. Brother Michael Ridgely
officiated the services.
Mrs. Stone was born March 30, 1923, in Haywood County to
the late Eddie and Rosa Ethylene Byars Rodgers. She was
a homemaker and a member of the Congressional Methodist
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold
Stone, a daughter, Beatrice Tubbs, a sister, Louise
Hutcherson, two brothers, William Julius Rodgers, Byars
Rodgers and a grandson, Michael Ray Pruitt.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria (Johnny) Johnson
of Huntingdon; two sisters, Ruth Parham of Dyersburg and
Winnie Alice Smith of Arlington. She also leaves 4
grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
CHARLIE RAY BOSWELL
1917-2007
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Charlie Ray Boswell, 90, died Thursday,
February 15 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, February 17
at the Huntingdon First Baptist Church. Interment
followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Brother Fred
Ward officiated the services.
Mr. Boswell was born January 26, 1917, in Life,
Tennessee, to the late Charlie Sanders and Ruth Verna
Wilson Boswell. He was a member of the Huntingdon First
Baptist Church, a security guard for Norandal and a
volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by a sister, Eva Wilks, of Memphis, a
niece, Mary (James) Golden and a great nephew, Eddie
Golden.
FRANCES LOREAN FULLER MURPHY
1921-2007
TREZEVANT: Frances Lorean Fuller Murphy, age 86, died
February 15, at Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation
Center. She was born September 21, 1921 in Gibson
County. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church-Trezevant
on Sunday, February 18, 2:00 p.m. with Brother Malcolm
Norton officiating. Burial was in Trezevant Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, James Murphy;
parents, John Elmer Fuller and Emma Crocker Fuller;
brothers, Johnny Fuller, Floyd Fuller, James Fuller, and
Elmer Hayes Fuller; sisters, Gertrude New, Marie Hunley,
Naomi Gallimore.
Survivors include: sons, Larry (Sharon) Murphy of
Humboldt, and Lloyd (Mildred) Murphy of Milan;
daughters, Emma (Gary) Waller of Humboldt and Dora
Hooper of Trezevant; a sister, Flora Moore of McKenzie;
10 grandchildren, 19 great-granchildren; and eight
great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Trezevant First Baptist
Church Building Fund.
Brummitt Funeral Home of Trezevant was in charge of
arrangements.
LUCY ELIZABETH TODD
1926-2007
GLEASON: Lucy Elizabeth Todd, 80, died February 12 at
Oak Manor Healthcare Center in McKenzie. Graveside
services were held February 16 at Hopewell Cemetery with
Bro. Bob Hutchins officiating.
Ms. Todd was a homemaker and was born February 23, 1926
to the late John F. and Henrietta Harris Parsley of
Gleason. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy
E. Leyhue and one son, Paul Todd.
She is survived by her sons; Leonard Todd of Gleason and
John T. Todd of Tulsa, Oklahoma and seven grandchildren
and 4 great grandchildren.
Gallimore Funeral Home in Gleason was in charge of
arrangements.
SAMUEL GLEN NESBITT
1932-2007
HUNTINGDON: Samuel Glen Nesbitt, 74, died Saturday,
February 10, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Funeral services were Friday, February 16, at 1:00 p.m.
in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Rev. Ivey
Jamison officiating. Burial was in Humbles Cemetery.
Mr. Nesbitt was born April 14, 1932 to the late James
Samuel Nesbitt and Maude Ophelia (Sutton) Nesbitt. He
was a retired factory worker, restaurant owner, and
caterer. He served in the Army during the Korean
conflict, was a member of the Golden Eagle Lodge for
over fifty years, the Eastern Star, the Mt. Pleasant
Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of
the deacon board, Sunday school superintendent,
president of the usher board, and was appointed as
assistant pastor. Besides his parents, he was preceded
in death by one brother, James Thomas Nesbitt, and one
sister, Charlie Claude Nesbitt.
Survivors include: his wife of 50 years, Emma Jean
(Johnson) Nesbitt; three sons, Farrell Nesbitt of
Nashville, Otis (Autumn) Nesbitt of Huntingdon, and
Anthony (Melinda) Nesbitt of Paris; six daughters, Betty
Williams of Cedar Grove, Judy (Arnold) Smith of Milan,
Miranda (Mark) Allen of Memphis, Jacquitta Nesbitt,
Jaleesa Nesbitt, and Cornsha Nesbitt, all of Huntingdon;
14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
WILLIAM ELBERT MAYO
1921-2007
MCKENZIE: William Elbert Mayo, age 85, retired owner of
Mayo's Barbecue, died February 14, at McKenzie Regional
Hospital. He was born July 12, 1921 in Lexington to
James Hollis Mayo and Millie Jane Neisler Mayo, both
deceased. Funeral services were Saturday, February 17,
2:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home, McKenzie with burial
in the New Valley Cemetery in Gleason.
Survivors include: son, William Hollis Mayo of McKenzie;
daughters, Peggy Crawford of Ft Myers, Florida and Mary
Janet Doster of McKenzie; brother, James Mayo of
McKenzie; sisters, Lucille Mayo Woods of Gleason and
Lula Mae Holmes of Huntingdon; three grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Mayo.
HORACE CLIFTON PHILLIPS
1914-2007
BUENA VISTA: Mr. Horace Clifton Phillips, age 92, died
February 14, at Camden Healthcare and Rehab Center. He
was born May 28, 1914 in Benton County to Thomas Monroe
Phillips and Nellie Tosh Scott Phillips, both deceased.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 17, 2:00 p.m.
at Bruceton Funeral Home with Brother Garland Broadway
officiating. Burial was in Old Hollow Primitive Church
Cemetery in Bruceton.
He is survived by: his wife, Gladys Mitchell Phillips;
sons, Michael (Pat) Joyner and Charles "Bill" (Phyllis)
Joyner, both of Buena Vista; a sister, Mrs. Essie
Williams of Hollow Rock; five grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
PAUL DWAYNE HUBBS
1940-2007
HENRY COUNTY: Mr. Paul Dwayne Hubbs, 66, died Sunday,
February 11, at the Henry County Medical Center. Funeral
services were held Wednesday, February 14 in McEvoy
Chapel with Dr. Gary S. Collier officiating. Interment
followed in Flatwoods Cemetery in Benton County.
Mr. Hubbs was born March 14, 1940, to the late John Rass
and Allie Eve Jackson Hubbs. He worked in aluminum
plants in New Johnsonville and Chicago. He graduated
from Camden High School.
He is survived by his daughters: Tammy Lamb of Cottage
Grove and Debbie (Woody) Robertson of Henry County; one
son, Jason D. Hubbs of Huntingdon; eight brothers: Mike
Hubbs of Florida, Jerry Hubbs of Seymour, Tommy and
Bobby Hubbs of Chicago; five grandchildren, six great
grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Hubbs; one
son, Randy Paul Hubbs; one sister, Patsy Price; and four
brothers: David Larry Hubbs, Kenneth Ray Hubbs, Weldon
Hubbs and Danny Hubbs. |
