HALBERT LEROY CARTER, SR.
1910-2007
MCLEMORESVILLE: Halbert Leroy Carter, Sr., age 96, of
McLemoresville died at his home on February 25 after a
long illness. He was born in McLemoresville December 3,
1910 to Horace Leroy and Ethel Harvey Carter, both
deceased. Funeral services are noon, Thursday at
McLemoresville United Methodist Church with entombment
in the McLemoresville Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday,
2-6 p.m. and Wednesday, 4-8 p.m. at the family residence
in McLemoresville. The family has requested that
children not attend the visitation. Survivors include:
his son's widow, Margo Carter of Memphis; daughters,
Dixie Carter-Holbrook (Hal Holbrook) of Beverly Hills
and McLemoresville; Melba Helen Carter Steve) Heath of
San Francisco; grandchildren, John (Un Chu) Carter,
James (Amelia) Carter, Horace (Missy) Carter, Ginna
Carter, Mary Dixie Carter (Steven) Kempf, Hillsman
Heath, Stephen Heath, and Christian Heath; great-granchildren
Margaret, Adaline, Joe, Halbert, and Gus Carter.
Dilday Funeral Home of Huntingdon has charge of
arrangements. Mr. Carter was the owner of H.L. Carter
and Sons variety stores in McLemoresville and Huntingdon
and helped start the Ben Franklin Store in downtown
McKenzie, and was a veteran of WWII. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Virginia, and son, Halbert, Jr.
Sylvester Thomas Sr.
1920-2007
HUNTINGDON: Sylvester Thomas Sr., 87, died Wednesday,
February 21, at Maplewood Health Care Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Monday, February 26, at 1:00 p.m.
in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Bro. James
Emerson officiating. Burial followed in St. Paul
Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas was born January 21, 1920 in Carroll County
to the late Leslie and Neva Thomas. He was reared in
Huntingdon and attended school in the St. Paul
Community. Later he worked at Modern Dry Cleaners in
Huntingdon. He was a member of Beasley Street Church of
Christ.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three
children, Thomas, Jerry Thomas and Imogene Thomas Ivory;
five sisters, Elizabeth Biggs, Robbie Jean Barnett,
Thelma Thomas Hampton, Mozelle Thomas, and Josephine
Thomas; and one brother, Bruce Thomas.
Survivors include: his wife, Oneita Thomas; and
children, Sylvester (Katherine) Thomas, Jr. and Carl
Edward (Melissa) Thomas, Barry and Bruce Thomas, all of
Huntingdon, James Howard Thomas of Gibson, Patricia
Thomas of Jackson, Rosie Thomas Lee of Phoenix, AZ; two
sisters, Pearline Thomas of Paducah, Kentucky and Annie
Louise Clark of Huntingdon; 14 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
SHIRLEY JEAN YORK
1948-2007
MARTIN: Shirley Jean York, 58, died Monday, February 19,
at her residence. A memorial service was held Saturday,
February 24, at 1 p.m. at McKenzie Funeral Home.
Mrs. York was born June 29, 1948 in Carroll County to
the late Jonathan and Lovell Waldrup Harris.
Survivors include: her husband, Bobby J. York of Martin;
two sons, Michael J. York of Martin and Terry W. York of
Huron; and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.
ROBBIE MARIE TAYLOR
1926-2007
PARIS: Robbie Marie Taylor, 81, died Friday, February 16
at Henry County Healthcare Center. Funeral services were
Monday, February 19 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Tom
Winchester officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant
Methodist Church Cemetery in Buchanan.
Mrs. Taylor was born January 19, 1926 to the late Robert
C. and Virgie Dinkins Perry. She was a member of United
Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she taught
Sunday school and vacation bible school. She was retired
from Henry County Medical Center. She was a graduate of
Henry High School and also graduated from Toler Business
College in 1946. Besides her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Woodrow Taylor, and one sister,
Betty Lawrence.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her daughter, Cheryl
(Phillip) Walker of Corydon, NY; two sons, Larry Taylor
and David (Phyllis) Taylor, both of Paris; three
sisters, Dona Robbins of Ocala, Florida, Helen Stubbs of
Dade City, Florida, and Reba Edwards of Raphine,
Virginia; two brothers, Dan (Beth) Perry of Henry and R.
C. Perry of McKenzie; and two grandchildren.
VERNON ROZELLE FARLOW
DRESDEN: Vernon Rozelle Farlow, 71, died Wednesday,
February 21, at McKenzie Healthcare. Funeral services
were Sunday, February 25, at 2 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral
Home in Dresden with Bro. Nathan Horton officiating.
Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery.
Mr. Farlow was the son of the late Charley and Lillian
Goldman Farlow. He was a native of Jefferson City,
Missouri, member of Beulah Baptist Church in Dresden,
and was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Lela Mae Snider Farlow, and one step-son, Harry D.
Gallimore.
Survivors include: two daughters, Donna L. (Jerry) Mask
of McKenzie and Kelly R. (Clint) Fuqua of Gleason; one
step-daughter, Carolyn S. (Charles) Bone of Munford;
three sons, Vernon A. (Pamela) Farlow of Lampasas,
Texas, Charles K. (Angela) Farlow of Killeen, Texas, and
E. Scott (Barbara) Farlow of Gleason; two step-sons,
Michael S. (Pam) Gallimore and Larry L. Gallimore, both
of Dresden; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
JIMMIE RAY COLEMAN
1951-2007
TREZEVANT: Jimmie Ray Coleman, 55, died Sunday, February
25, at Henry County Medical Center. Funeral services
were Monday, February 26, at 2 p.m. at McKenzie Funeral
Home. Burial followed at Enon Cemetery.
Mr. Coleman was born March 5, 1951 in Saginaw, Michigan
to the late John and Pauline Jean Coleman.
Survivors include: one brother, Johnny (Melanie) Coleman
of Trezevant.
Memorials may be made to LeBonheur Children's Hospital.
BARBARA GAIL MILLER GASKINS
1931-2007
MCKENZIE: Barbara Gail Miller Gaskins, 75, died
Wednesday, February 21, at her residence. Funeral
services were Saturday, February 24, at 11 a.m. at
Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie with burial in
Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
Mrs. Gaskins was born August 17, 1931 in Folks to the
late Alvie and Lillian Dempsey Rutledge. She was a
retired tax preparer and member of Shiloh Methodist
Church in McKenzie. Besides her parents, she was
preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Miller;
and one son, Jon Miller.
Survivors include: her husband, Bobby Gaskins; one
daughter, Ann Miller of Conway, Arkansas; three sons,
Russ (Lauraine) Miller of Aliso Viejo, California, Bill
(Suzanne) Miller of Los Angeles, California, and Walt
(Louise) Miller of Johns Island, South Carolina; 12
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
MARGARET FORTUNE
1909-2007
GLEASON: Margaret Fortune, 97, died Thursday, February
22, at her residence. Funeral services were Sunday,
February 25, at 2 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home with
Rev. Michael Simmons officiating. Burial followed in
Olive Branch Cemetery in Como.
Mrs. Fortune was born October 9, 1909 in Central City,
Kentucky to the late Angus and Lou Ella (McConnell)
Baskill. She was a retired waitress. Besides her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dee
Witt Fortune, and one daughter, Margie Moody.
Survivors include: four grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
LARRY THOMAS BAKER
1946-2007
TREZEVANT: Larry Thomas Baker, 60, died Saturday,
February 24, at his residence. Funeral services were
Monday, February 26, at 11 a.m. at Hunt Funeral Home
with Don McCartney officiating. Burial followed in
Pleasant Green Cemetery.
Mr. Baker was born August 2, 1946 to the late Clinton
Baker and Virginia Williamson. He was an engineer at
Porter Cable and a member of First Baptist Church in
Trezevant.
Survivors include: his wife, Lois Mae Baker of Trezevant;
one daughter, Tina Baker of Huntingdon; two sons, Brian
Baker and Steven Baker, both of Trezevant; two sisters,
Joan Rutherford of Bradford and Joy Tucker of Trenton;
and six grandchildren.
RAYMOND JAMESON
1939-2007
HUNTINGDON: Raymond Jameson, 67, died Tuesday, February
20, at Huntingdon Health and Rehab. Funeral services
were Saturday, February 24, at 2 p.m. at Smyrna
Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Jameson
officiating. Burial followed in Humbles Cemetery.
Mr. Jameson was born May 18, 1939 in Carroll County to
the late Prentice and Hallie King Jameson. He was
self-employed.
Survivors include: his wife, Deloris Yarbrough Jameson;
one son, David Jameson; three sisters, Louise
Blankenship, Melvie Sue Pearson and Vela Mae Owen; two
brothers, Dwayne Jameson and Carvine Jameson, all of
Smyrna Community; four grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
MAURICE ORVILLE PINKHAM
1931-2007
MILAN: Maurice Orville Pinkham, 75, died Tuesday,
February 20, at Rose Garden Retirement Home. Funeral
services will be Thursday, March 1, at 5 p.m. at First
Assembly of God in Milan.
Mr. Pinkham was born December 13, 1931 in Saco, Maine to
the late Lester Howard and Turquoise Pearl Downing
Pinkham. He was an electrical engineer for the U.S.
government.
Survivors include: his companion, Monda Irby Wildridge;
three sons, Russell Pinkham, Jeffrey Pinkham, and
Richard Pinkham; and a daughter, Rena Pinkham.

ROBERT WILLIAM NELLETT
1981-2007
HUNTINGDON: Robert William Nellett, 25, died Sunday,
February 25, at his home. Funeral services will be
Friday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Dilday
Funeral Home with Bro. Charles J. Hardy officiating.
Burial will follow in Liberty All Cemetery.
Mr. Nellett was born August 6, 1981 in Munster, Indiana.
He was a security guard for Diamond Security.
Survivors include: his wife, Holly Bawcum Nellett; one
daughter, Meagan Nellett; one son, Robert William
Nellett, Jr.; his parents, Chester and Katherine Nellett;
five brothers, Chester E. (Katherine) Nellett of Gary,
Indiana, Daniel R. Nellett of Griffith, Indiana, Brian
M. Nellett, Anthony A. Nellett, and Randy K. Nellett,
all of Huntingdon.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 p.m.
until 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until time of
services.
VIRGINIA J. ALLEN
1941-2007
HUNTINGDON: Virginia J. Allen, 65, died Monday, February
26, at her home. Funeral services will be Wednesday,
February 28, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Chase Funeral
Home with Bro. Fred Ward officiating. Burial will follow
in Bethel Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen was born December 14, 1941 to the late Smith
and Hazel (Norden) Thorne. She was a retired production
worker for the Henry I. Siegel Company, a waitress at
Joe's Barbeque, and a member of the First Presbyterian
Church in Huntingdon. Besides her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Allen.
Survivors include: one son, David (Darlene Holt) Allen
of Brownsville; one sister, Betty Thorne (Eric) Muir of
Jackson; two brothers, William Leon (Deborah) Thorne of
Memphis and David (Sabrina) Thorne of Huntingdon; and
three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the Cherry Wood Room
of Chase Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on
Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until time of services on
Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be
