J.B. JOHNSONIUS
1922-2007
MCKENZIE: J.B. Johnsonius, 84, died Monday, January 22,
at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services were
Friday, January 26, at 2 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home
with Bro. Pratt Hubbard officiating. Burial followed in
Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.
He owned and operated Johnsonius Sheet Metal works in
McKenzie until 1995. Johnsonius Sheet Metal Works was
established by his father, Hobson Merrimac Johnsonius,
in 1927.
The firm became a Lenox dealership in 1928 and by the
time the firm was closed in 1995 due to J.B. Johnsonius'
retirement it was one of the oldest Lenox dealerships in
the United States. In 1987 the business was recognized
as the second oldest firm in McKenzie continuously
operated by the same family. Lennox recognized
Johnsonius Sheet Metal Works in 1988 for over 60 years
of service. Lennox recognized the firm with several
other awards for quality and service.
Mr. Johnsonius was a lifetime member of the VFW and a
WWII U.S. Army Air Corp Combat Veteran. He served as a
photo lab chief on Tinian and flew combat missions over
Japan in B-29s. His unit processed some of the first
black and white photos of the atomic bomb as it was
dropped on Hiroshima.
Mr. Johnsonius was born June 19, 1922 in Paris. His
family moved to McKenzie in 1927 and he always
considered McKenzie his home. He was a member and elder
of First Presbyterian Church USA in McKenzie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobson Merrimac
and Donna McFadden Johnsonius, all of McKenzie.
Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Skellion Johnsonius;
two daughters, Victoria "Viki" (George) Hatcher of San
Antonio, Texas, and Teresa "Teri" (Loyd) Ford of Calvert
City, Kentucky; two sons, J.B. (Jenny) Johnsonius, Jr.
of Paris, and Hoppy (Kim) Johnsonius of McKenzie; one
sister, Jean (Paul) Straub of Memphis; and 10
grandchildren.
MELBA RHEA MCCLURE MOSELEY
1929-2007
MCKENZIE: Melba Rhea McClure Moseley, 77, died Monday,
January 22, at Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation
Center in Nashville. Funeral services were Friday,
January 26, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church
with Bro. Harrell Nation officiating. Burial followed in
Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
A native of Decatur County, Mrs. Moseley was born July
26, 1929 to the late Bob and Esther McClure. She
graduated from Bethel College and after graduation
taught fifth grade at Greenfield Elementary School. She
was a member of First United Methodist Church, ladies
VFW auxiliary, Alpha Phi Sigma Sorority and was a loving
mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 45
years, John H. Moseley; one infant son, George Robert
Moseley; two sisters, Louise McClure Bledsoe and Helen
McClure Newbill; and one brother, Lloyd McClure.
Survivors include: one daughter, Patti Moseley (Bruce)
Coleman of Murfreesboro; two sons, Johnny (Elizabeth)
Moseley, Jr. of Medina and Bobby (Lisa) Moseley of
Hendersonville; two sisters, Alma McClure Odom and
Pauline McClure White; and eight grandchildren,
Elizabeth Coleman (Ross) Brodie, Sarah Coleman (Jason)
Edwards, Hannah Coleman, Abigail Coleman, Kaitlyn
Moseley, Logan Moseley, Will Moseley and Matt Moseley.

WILLIAM EDWARD "BILL" SMITH
1939-2007
HUNTINGDON: William Edward "Bill" Smith, 67, died
Monday, January 22, at his home. Funeral services were
Thursday, January 25, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Chase
Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie Martin officiating. Burial
followed in Bethel Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born October 20, 1939 in Carroll County.
He was a retired salesman. He was preceded in death by
his father, James William (Jamie) Smith.
Survivors include: his wife of 28 years, Betty (Martin)
Smith; his mother, Bernice Lavern Smith of Huntingdon;
three daughters, Heather Smith of Huntingdon, Tami
(John) Hunt of PoQuoson, Virginia, and Deeanne (Dave)
Grimms of Glouster, Virginia; one son, Dean (Karen)
Smith of PoQuoson, Virginia; two sisters, Mary Frances
Stokes of Hendersonville, and Maletha Rich of Waverly;
and seven grandchildren.
BETTYE MARGARET ALLEN
1942-2007
HUNTINGDON: Bettye Margaret Allen, 64, died Monday,
January 22, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services were Friday, January 26, at 2:00 p.m.
in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Paul
Mullikin officiating. Burial followed in Humbles
Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen was born August 14, 1942 in Huntingdon. She
was a retired production worker from Murray
Manufacturing Company and a member of Huntingdon First
United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by
her father, Oneal Allen.
Survivors include: her mother, Kate Allen of Huntingdon;
one son, Gary (Penny) Allen of Cedar Grove; and four
grandchildren.
GORDON GECOVIA LINDSEY
1927-2007
YUMA: Gordon Gecovia Lindsey, 79, died Monday January
22, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral
services were Thursday, January 25, at 3:00 p.m. in the
Chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Andrew Stokes,
Bro. Lynn Stapleton, and Bro. Phillip Halters
officiating. Burial followed in Clarksburg Cemetery.
Mr. Lindsey was born March 2, 1927 to the late Eugene
Lindsey and Geneva (Hodge) Lindsey. He was a retired
farmer, a member of Clarksburg Missionary Baptist
Church, and a World War II veteran. Other than his
parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Iris
Burner and Mayce Floyd.
Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Larue (Rickman)
Lindsey; one daughter, Penny (Jeff) Cary of Yuma; two
sons, Kemp (Janis) Lindsey of Huntingdon, and Roger
(Pam) Lindsey of Yuma; eight grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
REX HEARINGTON
1924-2007
PARIS: Rex Hearington, 83, died January 24, in Middle
Tennessee. Funeral services were held January 27 at
Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris. Burial followed at
Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Parsons. Rev. Jerry Massey of
First Baptist Church of Paris officiated.
Mr. Hearington was born October 17, 1924 in Henderson
County. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Bivian
Hendrix and Sylvia Ritchie; and three brothers, Edward
Hearington, Lanoice Hearington and Ray Hearington.
Mr. Hearington attended Lexington High School, the
School of Aeronautics in Memphis and East Tennessee
State University. He served in the Navy in World War II
and was an ordained deacon in the Baptist Church for
fifty-six years. Professionally he was certified by the
Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He served his
community by being a member and past President of the
Paris Lions Club during which time he received the
Melvin Jones Fellow Award and the Edward Dalstrom
Distinguished Service Award. In 2003, he was recognized
by the Masons for 50 years of faithful service. He was a
member of First Baptist Church in Paris from 1965 to
2006. During the past year he resided in middle
Tennessee where he was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Portland.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Nadine
Wilkins Hearington; his children, Janice Hearington and
Jeffrey Rex (Joanne) Hearington; three granddaughters;
two sisters, Dean Ross and Maedelle Evans.
ELVIE ELLA CROCKER
1909-2007
TREZEVANT: Elvie Ella Crocker, 97, died Wednesday,
January 24 at the Douglas Nursing Home. Funeral services
were held January 27 at Brummitt Funeral Home in
Trezevant with Dr. Jere Phillips officiating. Burial
followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Crocker was born December 17, 1909 to the late Mr.
T.W. and Nettie Hamilton Joyner. She was preceded in
death by her husband, E.G. Crocker; three brothers,
Elbert Joyner, Arlus Joyner and Cecil Joyner; two
sisters Corinne Pinson and Mildred Nevil.
Survivors include: one sister, Marie Markins of Cypress,
Texas.
JONATHAN RAY EDWARDS
1973-2007
JACKSON: Jonathan Ray Edwards, 33, formerly of
Huntingdon, died Saturday, January 27, at his parent's
home in Huntingdon. Funeral services were Monday,
January 29, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Pentecostal Church
in Huntingdon with Bro. John Columbus and Bro. Eddie
Cupples officiating. Burial followed in Palmer Shelter
Cemetery.
Mr. Edwards was born September 11, 1973 in Jackson. He
was a Mortgage Officer for AM South banking, and a
member of the First Pentecostal Church in Huntingdon. He
graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1991 and
University of Tennessee in Martin, receiving first his
Bachelors Degree and later his Masters Degree 2000. He
was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James
Walter (Fibber) McGee and his paternal grandfather,
James Leroy Edwards.
Survivors include: his father and mother, Dudley and
Diann Edwards of Huntingdon; one sister, Brooke Davis of
Jackson; maternal grandmother, Willodean McGee of
Huntingdon; and paternal grandmother, Doris Edwards of
Portage, Indiana.

ARTHUR BOYD CHEATHAM
1940-2007
MCKENZIE: Arthur Boyd Cheatham, 66, died Sunday, January
28, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services were
Tuesday, January 30, at 2 p.m. at Enon Missionary
Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Allen and Bro. Dennis
Beal officiating. Burial followed at Pilgrim's Rest
Cemetery.
Mr. Cheatham, a retired Milan Arsenal worker, was born
May 1, 1940 in Obion County to the late Joseph Robert
and Audrey Wright Cheatham. He was a member of Enon
Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded
in death by one sister, Eva Jean McCollum.
Survivors include: his wife, Rebecca Cheatham of
McKenzie; one son, Jeffrey Cheatham of Clermont,
Florida; three daughters, Jennifer Murrell of Frederick,
Maryland, Jenise Tegethoff and Janna Cheatham, both of
McKenzie; four brothers, Jerry Cheatham of Indianapolis,
Indiana, James Cheatham of Glenrose, Texas, Ronald
Cheatham and Larry Cheatham, both of Martin; one sister,
Betty Goss of Marietta, Georgia; and two grandchildren.

HOLLOW ROCK: Betty Sue Pardue, 79, died Tuesday, January
23, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral
services were Thursday, January 25, at 11 a.m. at
Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with Ted Gentle and John
Kelsey officiating. Burial followed in New Prospect
Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Pardue was born August 15, 1927 in Eupora,
Mississippi to the late John Harrison and Lula Bridges
Rogers. She was a Methodist and a homemaker. Other than
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
John Robert Pardue; one son, Ricky Pardue; one grandson,
Marcus Becker; and three sisters.
Survivors include: five daughters, Mary Pardue of Hollow
Rock, Deborah (Bobby) Gaskins of Jackson, Ruby (Frank)
Brown of Camden, Lucy (Ray) Trull and Theresa Lane, both
of McKenzie; six sons, Robert Wayne (Kathy) Pardue,
Jimmy (Cathy) Pardue, and Anthony Pardue, all of Hollow
Rock, Ronnie (Cindy) Pardue of Memphis, Johnny (Sherry)
Pardue of Vale, and Jerry L. Pardue of Omaha, Mebraska;
31 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
RICHARD DOUGLAS BAYLESS, JR.
1958-2007
BRUCETON: Richard Douglas Bayless, Jr., 49, died Friday,
January 26, at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral
services were Sunday, January 28, at 3 p.m. at Bruceton
Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Whitworth officiating.
Burial followed in Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Bayless was born January 6, 1958 in Detroit,
Michigan to Richard Sr. (Dick) and Bonnie Hurt Bayless.
He was a member of Bruceton First Baptist Church and
Bruceton Lions Club.
Survivors include: his parents, three daughters, Hannah
Bayless of North Pole, Alaska, Carly Bayless and Emily
Pierce, both of Camden; two sons, Henry Bayless of
Camden and Taylor Bayless of North Pole, Alaska; two
sisters, Rosalee Bayless of Ocala, Florida and Susan
(Bob) Bouldin of McKenzie; and one granddaughter.
NADINE J. "POLLY" PRUITT
GRIFFITH, INDIANA: Nadine J. "Polly" Pruitt, 84, died
Sunday, January 21, in Indiana. Funeral services were
Friday, January 26, at 3:30 p.m. at Dilday Funeral Home
with Bro. Scotty Davis officiating. Burial followed in
Bethlehem Cemetery.
Mrs. Pruitt was preceded in death by her husband,
Adkins, and one brother, Warren Phillips.
Survivors include: two sons, Warren (Jacquita) Pruitt of
Tennessee, and Dale (Lynn) Pruitt of Valparaiso,
Indiana; three daughters, Betty L. Pruitt of
Schererville, Indiana, Rebecca Jane (David Garcia)
Belisle of California, and Gale (Melvin) Lolkema of
Griffith, Indiana; eight grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
PAULINE GROOM
1913-2007
HOLLOW ROCK: Pauline Groom, 93, died Monday, January 22,
at the Huntsville Hospital in Alabama. Funeral services
were Saturday, January 27, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of
Dilday Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Abbott officiating.
Burial followed in Marlboro Cemetery.
Mrs. Groom was born November 2, 1913 in Model, Tennessee
to the late Luther Paul and Mary Suddath Sills. She was
a retired machine operator for General Motors and a
member of Marlboro Church of Christ. Other than her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Delbert Groom.
Survivors include: one son, Jimmie Delbert Groom of
Madison, Alabama and one grandson.
PEGGY R. MCALEXANDER
1936-2007
HUNTINGDON: Peggy R. McAlexander, 70, died Tuesday,
January 23, at Oak Manor Nursing Home in McKenzie.
Funeral services were Friday, January 26, at 12 noon at
Leach Seventh Day Adventist Church with Bro. Fred Ward
officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. McAlexander was born July 1, 1936 in Leach to the
late Wade and Minnie Johnson Kelly. She graduated from
Huntingdon High School in 1952, retired from Methodist
South Hospital in Memphis as a unit secretary and was a
member of First Baptist Church of Huntingdon. Other than
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
A.D. McAlexander, and one daughter, Kim McAlexander.
Survivors include: one daughter, Michelle (Tim) Campbell
of Huntingdon; two sons, Michael McAlexander of Atlanta,
Georgia, and Mark (Christina) McAlexander of
Murfreesboro; one sister, Ann McCall of Memphis; eight
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

JOHNNY MARK MEGGS

HUNTINGDON: Johnny Mark Meggs, 48, died Tuesday, January
23, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral
services were Friday, January 26, at 1 p.m. in the
Chapel of Dilday Funeral Home with Bro. Bryan Oakes and
Bro. Scott Carter officiating. Burial followed in Carter
Family Cemetery.
Mr. Meggs was born March 26, 1958 in Huntingdon. He was
an electrical superintendent for 25 years, a member of
Huntingdon Masonic Lodge #106, a Scottish Rite and Al
Chymia Shrine.
Survivors include: his parents, Johnny and Betty Meggs
of Huntingdon; two daughters, Chelsea Meggs and Noel
Meggs; two brothers, Brent (Donna) Meggs and Bruce
(Helen) Meggs; and two grandsons.
BOBBY LEO THOMAS
1933-2007
HUNTINGDON: Bobby Leo Thomas, 73, died Thursday, January
25, at his home. Funeral services were Saturday, January
27, at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Dilday Funeral Home
with Bro. Billy Clark and Albert Stokes officiating.
Burial followed in Hampton Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas was born September 11, 1933 in Henderson to
the late Jesse Leo and Thelma Essary Thomas. He was a
retired employee of Republic Builders, a Korean Army
veteran, and a member of Westport Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his wife, Doris Jean Thomas; two
sons, Terry Leo Thomas and Jerry Dale Thomas, both of
Huntingdon; two sisters, Dorothy Edwards of Bruceton,
and Diane Hayes of Parsons; three grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
JAMES EDWARD "JIMMY" TATE
1946-2007
HUNTINGDON: James Edward "Jimmy" Tate, 60, died
Thursday, January 25, at his home. Funeral services were
Saturday, January 27, at 2 p.m. at Dilday Funeral Home
with Bro. Dwayne Thomas and Bro. Johnny Owens
officiating.
Mr. Tate was born March 10, 1946 in Carroll County. He
was a mechanic for the city of Huntingdon. He was
preceded in death by his father, Joseph Leroy Tate, Sr.,
and one brother, Joseph Leroy Tate, Jr.
Survivors include: his wife, Melba Sue Tate; his mother,
Mavis Maudeen Tate of Huntingdon; one daughter, Tamara
Leigh Tate of Chicago, Illinois; three sons, Joseph
Michael Tate of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, Joseph Ray Tate
of Henry, and James Edward Tate, II of Huntingdon; and
five grandchildren.
ERNESTINE DYE WATSON
1915-2007
BRUCETON: Ernestine Dye Watson, 91, died Wednesday,
January 24, at Northbrooke Rehabilitation in Jackson.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 27, at 11 a.m.
in Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve
Whitworth and Rev. Johnny Arnold officiating. Burial
followed in Eastview Cemetery near Camden.
Mrs. Watson was born May 21, 1915 in Benton County to
the late Ernest and Carrie Walker Dye. She was a member
of Bruceton First United Methodist Church and a past
officer in the ladies auxiliary. Other than her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn Watson.
Survivors include: one daughter, Peggy (John) Oxford of
Camden; three sons, Clyde Windell (Mary) Watson of
Camden, James Terry (Donna) Watson of Chattanooga, and
Larry Dye (Mary Ann) Watson of Memphis; nine
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
JO ANN MANN
1936-2007
MCLEMORESVILLE: Jo Ann Mann, 70, died Sunday, January
28, at Kindred Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services
were Tuesday, January 30, at 11 a.m. at McLemoresville
United Methodist Church with Bro. Tommy Martin
officiating. Burial followed at McLemoresville Cemetery.
Mrs. Mann, a homemaker, was born September 23, 1936 in
Lavinia to the late Arvis and Loyce Parham Vinson. She
was a member of McLemoresville United Methodist Church.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by one
brother, Bobby Vinson.
Survivors include: her husband, Bobby Mann; two sons,
Frankie (Brenda Harris) Mann and Tracy Mann, both of
McLemoresville.
