Rebel Trevor Willis drives to the basket for a score. Defending for the Mustangs is Chris Ford.

MCKENZIE (November 26) In middle school basketball action, the Mustangs held off a last-minute McKenzie rally to defeat the Rebels in a nail-biter 27-26 and in girl’s action, the Fillies defeated the Lady Rebels 32-7.

Mustangs 27, Rebels 26.

Huntingdon, spurred by Jamal Curry’s six-point performance, led McKenzie 6-5 after the first period before extending their lead to 11-7 at the half. Huntingdon outscored McKenzie 9-4 to lead 20-11 at the end of the third period. During fourth quarter play, Rebel Storme Hilliard led an inspired Rebel rally by converting crucial two and three-point baskets to narrow the Mustang lead to 27-21. With 1:54 remaining in the contest, Rebel Robert Taylor drilled a three-pointer to cut the Mustang lead to 27-24.

With 15 seconds remaining in the game, Rebel Trevor Willis raced down court after stealing the ball and was fouled while attempting a lay-up. Willis converted one of two free throws to narrow the lead to 27-26. Taylor alertly fouled Mustang Chris Ford to stop the clock with 9 seconds remaining. Huntingdon successfully in-bounded the ball and ran the clock out to claim a hard-fought district victory.

Huntingdon was led offensively by Curry (6), Cody Parton (6) K.C. Miller (5), Michael Jaeger (3), Corbin Jordan (3), Chris Ford (2) and Torey Watson (2).

The Rebels were led offensively by Hilliard (14), Colin Vinson (6), Taylor (3) and Willis (3).
