Electric Rates Increase April 1 |
| |
|
Carroll County electric customers will
see their electric bills increase 11.68
percent on meters read on or after April 1,
according to Lynn Compton, manager of
Carroll County Electric Department. That
equates to a cost increase of $11.68 on an
average bill of $100.00.
Of the 11.68 percent increase, 10.22 percent
goes to TVA to help fund the growing power
demand of the Tennessee Valley and 1.46
percent stays in Carroll County for
operational expenses to offset the high cost
of materials, fuel, right-of-way costs, etc.
TVA met three all-time winter records for
electricity consumption in the Valley since
January 1. Last summer, TVA met 13 all-time
summer records for power demand during
record-breaking August heat wave. When power
demand is at its peak, TVA often pays four
to five times normal costs for additional
power form other energy suppliers, added
Compton.
In Weakley County, rates will increase seven
percent with a minimum residential bill of
$8.88. The rate is .07909 for up to 800
kilowatt-hours, and .07828 otherwise for
residential customers. The rate is .08748
per kilowatt-hour for commercial customers. |
