Five to Be Inducted into Sports Hall of Fame May 3

The Board of Directors for the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame has named five inductees for the class of 2008. The following former athletes were announced this week by Board Chairman Jackie McGee as this year’s selection for the Hall of Fame: Warren Blankenship, Brian Johnson, Merle King, Joe Morris and Joe F. Williams.

The new inductees, along with area high school athletes, will be honored at the annual banquet on Saturday, May 3 at the Carroll County Civic Center, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

High school athletes to be at the banquet include: Erin Harris, Brooke Cary from Clarksburg; Matt Lane, Abby Brotherton, Alex Matlock, Chad Jordan from Hollow-Rock Bruceton; Brandon Baxter, Heather Odom from Huntingdon; Derek Carr, Sarah Owen from McKenzie; Brandon Luther, Brittney Luther from West Carroll; and Kalelyn Pinson from Carroll Academy.

Guest speaker at this year’s banquet will be TSSAA Executive Director Mr. Ronnie Carter of Pleasant view, Tenn.

Tickets for the banquet will go on sale April 7, and may be purchased from any board member: Jackie McGee, Cliff Sturdivant, Randall Roark, Terry McCoy, Todd Simpson, Ronnie Williams, Bobby Argo, Stan Welch, Harold “Hoot” Gibson, and Tim McBride. The tickets may also be purchased at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce building or they may be purchased at the door.

“We urge people throughout Carroll County, area schools and families to come out to this special event in support of the inductees and our local high school athletes,” said McGee.
