MCKENZIE (February 5) – McKenzie Special School District Board of Education approved the bid of Kirk’s Roofing Company of McKenzie for the replacement of the roof on the McKenzie Elementary School.

Kirk’s Roofing Company submitted a bid of $139,800 and was the lowest bidder for the project. Other bidders included: Reece Roofing of Jackson $145,250; Stambaugh Roofing of McKenzie at $167,000; and Dortch Roofing of Paris at $174,075. The bids were unanimously approved on a motion by Brad Davis.

Superintendent Jim Ward said it’s fortunate the school system awarded the bid before the tornado hit Jackson. He anticipates all area roofers will be busy repairing damage in the Jackson area. The tornado hit Jackson at the approximate time the McKenzie Board of Education was conducting its meeting.

The board authorized Superintendent Jim Ward and Finance Director Stan George to seek a financial representative for the purpose of refinancing the school’s $8,175,000 indebtedness, scheduled for retirement in 2022. The selected representative will make a presentation at the March 4 meeting.

The following personnel changes were announced by Superintendent Ward. Employed were substitute teachers: Sandra Taylor, Christine Holmes, Jessica Sauter, Autumn Anderson, Regina Thompson, Elizabeth Stambaugh, and Jean Melton; Misty Glissen was hired as an elementary school custodian and Cecil Poore resigned from his position as an elementary custodian. Teacher Carol Barker was granted a medical leave of absence.

Board member Jill Holland was absent.
