HUNTINGDON (January 17) — During the
Huntingdon Special School District Board of
Education’s regular monthly meeting, board
members approved a one-year contract
extension to Huntingdon Director of Schools
Lynn Twyman lengthening his existing
contract from June 30, 2009 to June 30,
2010.
Chairman Lee Carter announced the
resignations of highly respected longtime
Huntingdon High School Head football coach
Mike Mansfield and defensive coordinator
Jimmy Pritchard.
He said, “I want to thank Mike Mansfield for
the time and service he has devoted to our
school. He has done an excellent job in
educating our young men and women. I also
want to thank Jimmy Pritchard for his
excellent job in teaching and for being a
strong role model for the students at
Huntingdon. Both men have worked hard and
provided excellent service for our school
system as teachers and coaches, and we
sincerely thank each of them for all that
they have done.”
The board approved a joint school board /
venture meet to be held at the
Superintendant’s Office on Friday, March 7
at 7 a.m.
Carter explained that the joint meeting
would commence with a combined
February-March board meeting followed by
meetings with Huntingdon elementary, middle
and high school principals and interaction
with the school system.
Twyman, in announcing the upcoming annual
Tennessee School Board Week, thanked the
board for their time, hard work and
dedication to the Huntingdon School System.
He said, “Your efforts have made our school
system what it is now. I personally thank
you for your support and for continually
striving to elevate the quality of our
school.”
Following discussion, the board approved
Monday, May 19 as the date for Huntingdon
High School graduation.
Carter noted, “I’m sure that some of the
seniors aren’t happy about having to
graduate later, but Huntingdon traditionally
holds its graduation ceremony on Monday, and
that is the date that works.”
He continued, “By extending graduation to
May 19 the board will guarantee that our
school system is compliant in fulfilling the
total required state mandated attendance
days.”
Carter informed that the annual TSBA “Day on
the Hill” at the state capital in Nashville
is slated for February 26.
He said, “For those interested in attending,
the session will begin with breakfast at 7
a.m. and should be completed by 9 a.m. We
can then spend the remainder of the morning
visiting with our legislators.”
In final business, the board approved the
following Consent Agenda:
A. Approve the December balance sheets and
the minutes from the December 13 meeting
B. Approve the following trips:
1. Middle School Band to UTM Honor Band in
Martin on January 24-26, 2008
2. Middle School Band to All-West in Memphis
on January 31-February 2, 2008
3. Middle Scholl Technology Association to
Memphis for Regional Conference on January
18, 2008
4. Middle School Technology Association to
Pigeon Forge for State Conference on March
30-April 2, 2008. |
