Voters to Select Presidential
Preferences in February 5 Race
Early voting continues through Thursday,
January 31 for the upcoming presidential
primary, with voters choosing their
Democratic or Republican preference in the
February 5 race. See sample ballot in this
edition.
Voter turnout for the presidential primaries
in Carroll County has been light thus far,
according to Linda Radford, Carroll County
Administrator of Election. As of Monday
afternoon, 838 persons had participated in
early voting. That number includes military
and absentee voting.
Democrat candidates listed on the ballot
include: Joe Biden, Hiliary Clinton, Chris
Dodd, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, Dennis
Kucinich, Barack Obama, and Bill Richardson.
Of that group, Biden, Dodd, Kucinich, and
Richardson have already dropped out of the
race.
Republican candidates on the ballot include:
Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter,
Alan Keyes, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt
Romney, Tom Tancredo, and Fred Thompson.
On the Republican ticket, Fred Thompson has
also dropped out of the race.
Also on the Republican ballot, voters may
vote for delegates to represent that state
at the Republican National Convention to be
held September 1-4. There are 14 delegates
listed for the Eighth Congressional District
and voters may vote for three of those. All
14 are listed as being committed to certain
candidates.
There are also 75 other choices for
delegates listed statewide. Of that group,
voters may vote for up to 12. Those include
many who are committed to certain
candidates, but eight of them are listed as
being uncommitted.
No other elections will be on the February
ballot in Carroll County.
Early voting is available at the Carroll
County Election Commission office, located
in the County Office Complex, 625 High
Street, Suite 113. Registered voters can
cast ballots from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on
weekdays; and on Saturday between the hours
of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Voters are
required to have a signature identification
to vote.
Anyone who has moved within the county
should update their address with the
election commission by January 31, said
Radford.
In the presidential primary four years ago,
3,130 Carroll County residents, or 18
percent of 17,978 registered voters, cast
ballots.
Carroll County has 18,900 residents
registered to vote. |
