Carroll and Henry unemployment rates
reflected increases in December, while
Weakley County’s jobless rate went down,
according to latest statistics released from
the Tennessee Department of Labor and
Workforce Development.
Carroll County’s jobless rate increased to
7.0 percent, up from the November rate of
6.5 percent. From a labor force of 14,040, a
total of 13,060 were employed, leaving 990
unemployed. The declines in employment were
experienced in manufacturing,
education/health services, and government
sectors, according to Judith Bradberry,
labor market analyst for the state.
Henry County’s December unemployment rate
was 6.6 percent, which is an increase from
the November rate of 6.3 percent. From a
labor force of 14,050, a total of 13,130
were employed, leaving 920 unemployed.
Declines in employment were in
manufacturing, TTU (trade, transportation
and utilities) and government, said
Bradberry.
Weakley County’s December unemployment rate
was 5.9 percent, down from the November rate
of 6.4 percent. From a labor force of
16,200, a total of 15,270 were employed,
leaving 950 unemployed. Weakley County also
saw some decline in TTU and government, but
a season increase in manufacturing to offset
those declines, noted Bradberry.
Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment
rate for December was 5.3 percent, up from
the November rate of 4.9 percent. The United
States unemployment rate went up to 5.0
percent for December from 4.7 percent in
November.
According to the state report, 10 counties
experienced decreased employment, 76
counties increased and nine counties remain
the same. |
