KATHRYN M. PATTERSON
DYERSBURG: Kathryn M. Patterson, 89, died
Friday, March 28, at her son's home in
Bartlett. Graveside services were Monday,
March 31, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery
in McKenzie.
Mrs. Patterson was a retired teacher with
Dyersburg City Schools, was a member of
Dyersburg First Baptist Church, and member
of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Oscar Patterson; one
brother, Caywood Martin; two sisters, Jean
Marshall and Hazel Brewer; and one son, Dr.
Stanley M. Patterson.
Survivors include: one son, Paul Patterson
of Bartlett; one brother, Ross Martin of
McKenzie; six grandchildren, Mary Patterson
and Katie Patterson, both of Bartlett, Karen
Williams of Memphis, Kathy Scogin of
Columbus, Georgia, Dr. Kim Walpert of
Athens, Georgia, and Dr. Mike Patterson of
Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart
Association or a charity of the donor's
choice.
Dyersburg Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
CLAUDE ELVIN WILLIAMS
1931-2008
GLEASON: Claude Elvin Williams, 76, died
Monday, March 31, at Martin Healthcare.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 2, at
2 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home with Rev.
Mike Jeffers and Rev. Tony Terrell
officiating. Burial followed in Hopewell
Cemetery.
Mr. Williams was born August 30, 1931 in
Gleason to the late Claude and Nina Mae
Spence Williams. He was a retired farmer and
member of New Valley Methodist Church in
Gleason.
CLARA B. GRIMES
1913-2008
TREZEVANT: Clara B. Grimes, 94, died
Tuesday, April 1, at NHC Healthcare in
Milan. Funeral services were Friday, April
4, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in
McLemoresville with burial in McLemoresville
Cemetery.
Mrs. Grimes was born November 5, 1913 in
Humphrey, Oklahoma to the late James Leo
Barber, Sr. and Sytha Ethel (Garrett)
Barber. She was a homemaker and member of
First Baptist Church of McLemoresville.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, Bill Grimes; one son,
Pat Grimes; two brothers, J.L. Barber, Jr.
and John Barber; and one sister, Esta L.
Garmany.
Survivors include: two sons, Mike (Susie)
Grimes of Yukon, Oklahoma and Tim (Lynn)
Grimes of Trezevant; three grandchildren,
Traci (Travis) Yates, Adam Grimes and Eric
Grimes; and two great-grandchildren.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
MARY FRANCES DAVENPORT
1940-2008
NORTH CAROLINA: Mary Frances Davenport, 67,
died Wednesday, March 19. A memorial service
was Saturday, April 5, 2 p.m. at the Kingdom
Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Wilson, North
Carolina with Elder Steve Sackas and Elder
Vincenzo Pascarelli officiating.
Mrs. Davenport was born June 26, 1940 in
Mobile, Alabama to the late Minnie Sue Ownby.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, Charlie Jackson
Davenport, Sr.; her stepfather, Justin
Vernon Ownby; and one son, Charlie Jackson
Davenport, Jr.
Survivors include: two daughters, Teresa
Jayne Finn of Rocky Mount, North Carolina
and Stephanie Renee Roberson of Elm City,
North Carolina; two brothers, Alvin P. Ownby
of McKenzie and Robert P. Ownby of Mobile,
Alabama; eight grandchildren; one
step-grandson; six great-grandchildren; and
four step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of
Jehovah's Witnesses, 1423 NW Forest Hills
Road, Wilson, North Carolina 27896.

MAXIE MILDRED STANFIELD
1919 - 2008
HUNTINGDON: Maxie Mildred Stanfield, 88,
died Thursday, April 3, at Huntingdon Health
and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 5, at
2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with
Dr. William P. Bailey, Jr., Rev. Jim Cooper
and Rev. Dossie Wheatley officiating. Burial
followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Stanfield was born December 8, 1919 in
Rosser to the late Robert Clyde Williams,
Sr. and Maxie (Conyers) Williams. She worked
several years as a supervisor for the
Selected Service and was on the Democratic
Executive Committee Board. She retired as a
secretary for the USDA Office and was a
member of the First United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, Viron C. Stanfield;
and one brother, Clyde Williams, Jr.
Survivors include: one son, Bobby (Alice)
Stanfield of Huntingdon; and one
granddaughter.
STAFF SGT. CHARLES EUGENE "DUKE" BROOKS
1926-2008
HOLLOW ROCK: Staff Sgt. Charles Eugene
"Duke" Brooks, 81, died Friday, April 4, at
Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Visitation was on Saturday, April 5, with
cremation following.
Mr. Brooks, a retired Staff Sgt. in the U.S.
Air Force, was born September 17, 1926 in
Stantonville to the late Charles Luther
Brooks and Mary Alice Anderson Brooks. He
was a World War II and Korean War veteran.
He later worked as a patrolman for the city
of Savannah, and as a security officer at
University of Memphis. He was a member of
Adamsville First Baptist Church, Adamsville
Masonic Lodge, Adamsville Order of Eastern
Star, Memphis Scottish Rite and Al Chymia
Shrine Temple.
Survivors include: one son, Chuck (Karen)
Brooks of Hollow Rock; two grandchildren and
one great-grandson.
HENRY ALVIN MORRIS
1935-2008
MCKENZIE: Henry Alvin Morris, 72, died
Sunday, April 6, at Jackson Madison County
General Hospital. Funeral services are
Thursday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at Brummitt
Funeral Home in McKenzie with burial in
Carroll Memorial Gardens in McKenzie.
Mr. Morris was born December 30, 1935 in
Yuma to the late Walter Morris and Geneva
(Hall) Morris. He was retired from Ford
Motor Company. Besides his parents, he was
preceded in death by one daughter, Geneva
Morris; and two brothers, Eulon and Tenny
Morris.
Survivors include: two sons, Henry M. Morris
of Huntingdon and Wayne A. Morris of
Indiana; one daughter, Julie (Michael)
McDaniels of London, Kentucky; four
brothers, W.G. Morris of Hermitage, Georgie
Morris of Smyrna, William Morris of Memphis,
and James Morris of McKenzie; and two
grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m.
until 8 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home and 10
a.m. until time of service on Thursday.
SAMMY JOE FRY
1936-2008
HUNTINGDON: Sammy Joe Fry, 72, died
Wednesday, April 2, at Baptist Memorial
Hospital. Funeral services were Friday,
April 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Davis Chapel United
Methodist Church with Dr. Steve Atwood
officiating. Burial followed in the church
cemetery.
Mr. Fry was born February 1, 1936 in Carroll
County to the late B. D. and Opal Ledsinger
Fry. He was the retired owner of Fry's Dairy
Bar, and a former alderman and mayor of
Trezevant. Besides his parents, he was
preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Fry.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Evelyn
Kirby Fry; one brother, Jerry Fry of Saudi
Arab and several nieces and nephews.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
INA MAE PARK
1912-2008
BUENA VISTA: Ina Mae Park, 95, died Friday,
April 4, at Huntingdon Health and Rehab.
Funeral services were Monday, April 7, at 2
p.m. at Bruceton Funeral Home with Rev.
Steve Davis officiating. Burial followed in
Spellings Cemetery.
Mrs. Park, a retired seamstress for H.I.S.,
was born July 1, 1912 in Carroll County to
the late John Green Cooper and Margaret L.
Brown Cooper. She was a member of Mt. Nebo
Baptist Church and a 50-year member of
Hollow Rock Order of the Eastern Star.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, Waddell Park, Sr.
Survivors include: one son, Waddell (Peggy)
Park, II of Bruceton; one brother, Robert
Cooper of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
NANCY ELIZABETH MILLER
1920-2008
BRUCETON: Nancy Elizabeth Miller, 87, died
Thursday, April 3. Funeral services were
Tuesday, April 8, at 1 p.m. at Bruceton
Funeral Home with Rev. James Daniel and Rev.
Noel Edwards officiating. Burial followed in
Prospect Cemetery.
Mrs. Miller, a housewife, was born April 30,
1920 in Craggie Hope, Tennessee to the late
Jerome Nathaniel Thompson and Fannie Parker
Thompson. She was a member of Bruceton First
Baptist Church where she taught Sunday
School for 50 years. She worked several
years for Hollow Rock-Bruceton cafeteria and
was a 50-year member of Bruceton Order of
Eastern Star Adah Chapter #314. Besides her
parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Thomas Bryan Miller, Sr.
Survivors include: one son, Thomas (Karen)
Bryan Miller, Jr. of Shrewsbury,
Massachusetts; two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
DORTHY "DAG" LEE PEARSON
1929-2008
BRUCETON: Dorthy "Dag" Lee Pearson, 79, died
Tuesday, April 1, at Jackson Madison County
General Hospital. Funeral services were
Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. at Smyrna
Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed
in Humbles Cemetery.
Mr. Pearson was born January 22, 1929 in
Carroll County to the late Dorthy Lee and
Hattie Sue Robinson Pearson. He was a
self-employed farmer.
Survivors include: four children, Benjamin
(Betty) Pearson of Jackson, Charles (Sharyl)
Pearson and Pricilla (Donald) Owens, both of
Bruceton, and Dyeann (Floyd) Ownes of Hollow
Rock; one sister, Beatrice (Jim) Nash of
Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
ELER MONTEITH
1911- 2008
BRADENTON, FLORIDA: Eler Monteith, 86,
formerly of Huntingdon, died Wednesday,
April 2, in Florida. Graveside funeral
services are Thursday, April 10, at 3 p.m.
at the Leach Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery.
Mrs. Monteith was born December 5, 1911 in
Carroll County to the late L. R. and Ora
Scott Rigsby. She was a retired employee of
Abbott Laboratory. Besides her parents, she
was preceded in death by her first husband,
Paul Lewis; her second husband, Harold
Monteith; two sons, Harold Lewis and Glenn
Lewis; two brothers, Carl Rigsby and Chester
Rigsby; and one sister, Vergie Fry.
Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley
(Bill) Wood of Bradenton, Florida; one
stepdaughter, Regina (Brian) LaBossiere of
Bradenton, Florida; one stepson, James
(Laverne) Monteith of Roswell, New Mexico;
one sister, Iona Lewis of Berwyn, Illinois;
one brother, John C. (Inez) Rigsby of
Jackson; seven grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren and 10
great-great-grandchildren.

DOROTHY MAY BURKE
1921-2008
GLEASON: Dorothy May Burke, 86, died Monday,
March 24, at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 26,
at 2 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home with
Rev. Gene Price officiating. Burial followed
in Hopewell Cemetery.
Mrs. Burke was born April 27, 1921 in Paris
to the late Raymond W. McKenzie and Winnie
Ruth Baker. She was a former employee of
Sharon Pajama Factory and was a member of
Tumbling Creek Baptist Church. Besides her
parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, James Burke; three brothers, Roy,
Edwin and Raymond McKenzie; one sister,
Anita Harrison; and one son, Leon Franklin.
Survivors include: one daughter, Ruth Pryor
of Gleason; two stepsons, Thomas Burke of
Gleason and Larry Burke of McKenzie; one
stepdaughter, Martha Burke of McKenzie; one
brother, L.T. McKenzie of Paris; four
sisters, Weathy Fischer and Shirley Mann,
both of McKenzie, Betty Brown of Henry, and
Bonnie McCall of Orlando, Florida; and four
grandchildren.
EVELYN LOUISE ROOK
1930-2008
BRUCETON: Evelyn Louise Rook, 77, died
Wednesday, April 2, at Life Care Center in
Bruceton. Funeral services were Saturday,
April 5, at 4 p.m. at Bruceton Church of
Christ with Thomas Rook and Stephen Rook
officiating. Burial followed in Prospect
Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Rook was born April 5, 1930 in
Dyersburg to the late Herschell and Oma
Railey Cook. She was a retired cafeteria
supervisor for the Hollow Rock-Bruceton
Special School District and a member of
Bruceton Church of Christ.
Survivors include: her husband of 61 years,
Hanford Rook of Bruceton; one daughter,
Cathy W. Graebe of Franklin; three sons,
Thomas Rook of Grandview, Missouri, Stephen
Rook of Lebanon and Mark Rook of Bruceton;
three sisters, Charlotte Ray of Roellen,
Carolyn Simmons and Ruth Richards, both of
Jackson; one brother, Milton Cook of
Fairview Bay, Arkansas; nine grandchildren
and one great-grandson.
Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
LILLIE RUTH PEARSON
1938-2008
HUNTINGDON: Lillie Ruth Pearson, 69, died
Friday, April 4, at Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services are
Wednesday April 9, at 1 p.m. at Chase
Funeral Home with Rev. Ivy Jamison
officiating. Burial will follow in Humbles
Cemetery.
Mrs. Pearson was born May 25, 1938 in
Carroll County to the late Bernard Bledsoe
and Maud (Hunt) Bledsoe. She retired from
Henry I. Siegel Company where she worked as
a seamstress and was a member of Huntingdon
Christian Fellowship Church. Besides her
parents, she was preceded in death by two
sisters, Jessie Meeks and Pauline Arnold.
Survivors include: her husband, Richard
Pearson of Huntingdon; one daughter, Clara
Ruth Nash of Huntingdon; three sons, Charles
Tharpe, Jr. and Robert L. Tharpe, both of
Lexington, Kentucky, and James L. Tharpe of
Huntingdon; three sisters Vennie Sue
Wormerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, Evelyn
Hilliard of Lexington, and Anner Jean
Bledsoe of Toledo, Ohio; one brother, Walter
Bledsoe of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight
grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the
Chapel of Chase Funeral Home on Tuesday from
6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8
a.m. until time of the service.
CORA SUE ASHLEY
1937-2008
HUMBOLDT: Cora Sue Ashley, 71, died Sunday,
April 6, at Humboldt General Hospital.
Graveside services were Tuesday, April 8, at
1 p.m. at Spain Cemetery with Bro. Robert
Barger officiating.
Mrs. Ashley was born March 12, 1937 in
Henderson County to the late Leonard Odom
Stanford and Lillie Inez (Spencer) Stanford.
She was a factory worker for the Henry I.
Siegel Company and a member of the Cedar
Grove Presbyterian Church. Besides her
parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Terry Lee Ashley; and one brother,
Leonard DeWayne Stanford.
Survivors include: two daughters, Beverly
Jean Bray of Cedar Grove and Jody Beth
Blankenship of Medina; two sons, Tommy Dean
Moore of Jackson and Timothy Duke Moore of
Cedar Grove; one sister, Elsie Mae Moore of
Cedar Grove; six grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. |
