SHELBA JEAN HIGDON MCCASLIN
1947-2008
MCKENZIE: Shelba Jean Higdon McCaslin, 60,
died Tuesday, January 29, at McKenzie
Regional Hospital. Funeral services were
Thursday, January 31, at 2 p.m. at Brummitt
Funeral Home in McKenzie with Bro. Fred
Morris officiating. Burial followed in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. McCaslin, a retired florist, was born
March 14, 1947 in Trezevant to the late
James Elton Higdon and Margaret Jane (Scott)
Higdon.
Survivors include: her husband, Robert
McCaslin of McKenzie; two sons, Derrick
McCaslin of McKenzie and Patrick McCaslin of
Smyrna; three brothers, Richard Wall of
Memphis, Donald Higdon of McKenzie, and
Terry Higdon of Friendship; six sisters,
Melba Sue Patton of Tampa, Florida, Velta
Flippin, Linda Reed, Jorene Baker, Lorene
Hudson, and Sherry Epperson, all of
McKenzie; and two grandchildren, Zayden Ty
McCaslin and Lute Anders McCaslin.
ROBERT LAURENCE PRATHER
1926-2008
McKENZIE: Robert Laurence Prather, 81, died
Wednesday, January 30, at McKenzie Regional
Hospital. Funeral services were Saturday,
February 2, at 2 p.m. at McKenzie Funeral
Home with Rev. Richard Allen officiating.
Burial followed at Caledonia Cemetery.
Mr. Prather was born September 9, 1926 in
Clarksburg to the late Willie V. and Lessie
Phillips Prather. He was a retired factory
worker and a member of Bethel Missionary
Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy
during WWII and later in the Tennessee
National Guard. He was preceded in death by
one daughter, Jana E. Hodge.
Survivors include: his wife, Lavada Smith
Prather of McKenzie; four sons, Jerry
Prather of Huntingdon, Robert S. Prather of
Dresden, Terry D. Prather and Stephen E.
Prather, both of McKenzie; one sister, Mary
Vawter of Trenton; and eight grandchildren.
ELSIE MAURINE MORRIS
1924-2008
McKENZIE: Elsie Maurine Morris, 83, died
Thursday, January 31, at McKenzie Regional
Hospital. Funeral services were Saturday,
February 2, at 2 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral
Home. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery
in McKenzie.
Mrs. Morris was born November 15, 1924 in
Trezevant to the late Leonard and Lois Cobb
Cloyd. She was co-owner of Morris Carpet in
McKenzie and a member of the First United
Methodist Church. Besides her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Howard
Morris; and her uncle and aunt, R.G. and
Elsie Walker.
Survivors include: one daughter, Diana
(Jerome) Crawford of McKenzie; one
granddaughter, Jessica Crawford of
Nashville; one brother-in-law, Joseph W.
(Joyce) Morris of Nashville; and one
sister-in-law, Linda (Ed) Richmond of
Memphis.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that
memorials be made to the First Methodist
Church in McKenzie, the McKenzie Memorial
Library or the charity of your choice.
THOMAS HAROLD KENT
1948-2008
DRESDEN: Thomas Harold Kent, 58, died
Wednesday, January 30, at his residence. A
memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on
Friday, February 1, at Gallimore Funeral
Home of Gleason with Bro. Bob Copeland
officiating.
Mr. Kent was born September 12, 1948 in
Dyersburg to the late Esby and Martha Headly
Kent. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Debra Hatch Kent.
Survivors include: one son, Randy Kent of
Gleason; two daughters, Charlotte McAbee and
Jodie Kent, both of Gleason; two sisters,
Alice Green and Mary Boane, both of Gleason;
and one grandchild.
RUBY N. JONES
1916 - 2008
LAVINIA: Ruby N. Jones, 91, died Saturday,
February 2, at her daughter's home. Funeral
services were Monday, February 4, at 1 p.m.
at Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby
Beecham officiating. Burial followed in
Hickory Flat Cemetery.
Ms. Jones was born October 3, 1916 in
Henderson County to the late John Riley
Neisler and Lou Eller Elizabeth (Massey)
Neisler. She was a homemaker and was Baptist
by belief. Besides her parents, she was
preceded in death by one son, Bobby Ray
Jones; three grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
Survivors include: seven daughters, Virginia
Coleman of Lexington, Hazel Thornton of
Corinth, Mississippi, Dorothy Holladay of
Huntingdon, Nell (Willie) McClearen and
Evelyn (Mack) Jones, both of Cedar Grove,
Marie McBroom of Booneville, Sue (Ron) West
of Lavinia; one son, Wayne (Frances) Jones
of Humboldt; 18 grandchildren, 31
great-grandchildren, and 12
great-great-grandchildren.
MADELYN PAIGE BEAMON
2001-2008
HUNTINGDON: Madelyn Paige Beamon, 6, died
Saturday, February 2. Visitation was held on
Monday, February 4, at Sycamore View Church
of Christ in Memphis from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.,
with a life celebration service following
immediately at 6 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday,
February 5, will be held at Chase Funeral
Home in Huntingdon from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. On
February 6, visitation will be held at Chase
from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with a procession
to Sellers Hill Cemetery to follow
immediately.
Madelyn was born December 17, 2001. On
January 29, 2004, at age 2, she was
diagnosed with stage IV Neuroblastoma. On
February 2, 2004 she began her journey being
treated for cancer under the loving and
excellent care of the doctors and staff at
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in
Memphis. For four years, Madelyn battled
cancer with a smile on her face and hope in
her heart. She continues to be a source of
hope to many.
Survivors include: her parents, Brandi Dawn
and Neal Jesse Beamon; her brother, Tyler
Preston Giffen; her baby sister, Ella
Madison Beamon; her grandparents, Sherry
(Pierce) Young, Terry Poucher, and John and
Katherine (Williams) Beamon; her
great-grandparents, J.C. and Shelby (Peak)
Pierce, and Rachel (Morgan) Williams; as
well as four aunts, four uncles and 10
cousins.

JIMMY LEE MAYO
1949 - 2008
HUNTINGDON: Jimmy Lee Mayo, 58, died
Wednesday, January 30, at the VA Hospital in
Memphis. Funeral services were Saturday,
February 2, at 10 a.m. at Chase Funeral Home
with Mike Walker and Phillip Welch
officiating. Burial followed in
McLemoresville Cemetery.
Mr. Mayo was born June 1, 1949 in Morgan
County to the late Hollis Bennett Mayo and
Mamie Lee (Bunch) Mayo. He served 10 years
in the Army and was a self-employed
carpenter.
Survivors include: his companion, Muriel
Walker of Huntingdon; four sisters, Gladys
Chaney and Alice Coleman, both of
Huntingdon, Clara Smith of Atwood, Gina
Gregory of Camden; and five brothers, George
Mayo, Jerry Mayo, John Mayo, all of
Huntingdon, Sam Mayo of Michigan City,
Indiana, and James Mayo of Camden.
DOSHIE L. HAYES
1911-2008
MCKENZIE: Doshie L. Hays, 96, died Sunday,
February 3, at Oak Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services were Tuesday, February 5,
at 2 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home,
McKenzie.
Mrs. Hays was born December 1, 1911 in
Parsons to the late Lonzo and Martha Ann
Carrington Dailey. She was a homemaker and
was Baptist in faith. Beside her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband,
James Oliver Hays; one sister, Ethel Hays;
and two brothers, Ollie and John Dailey.
Survivors include: one daughter, Martha
(Robert) Galey of Greenfield.
JOAN BATES
1932-2008
GREENFIELD: Joan Bates, 75, died Sunday,
February 3. Funeral services are Wednesday,
February 6, at 2 p.m. at Williams Funeral
Home with Brent Arnold officiating. Burial
will follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
Mrs. Bates was born April 12, 1932 in
Greenfield to the late Aubrey Raines and
Selma Gilliam Raines. She worked as a cook
and factory worker.
Survivors include: one brother, Alvin
Gilliam Raines of Kent, Washington.
WILLIAM EDDIE CARDEN
1946-2008
UNION CITY: William Eddie Carden, 61,
formerly of McKenzie, died Wednesday,
January 30, at Union City Manor Nursing
Home. Funeral services were Saturday,
February 2, at 11 a.m. at White-Ranson
Funeral Home with the Rev. Drew Henry
officiating. Graveside services were at 1:30
p.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Ripley.
Mr. Carden was born June 22, 1946 in Milan
to the late Carl Franklin Carden and the
late Ina Bell (Compton) Carden Bannister. He
was president of Kirkland Financial and had
been vice president of the former Farmers
Exchange Bank and president of the former
First American Bank in Union City. He was
also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served
in Japan during the Vietnam War. A member of
Union City First Baptist Church, he was a
member of Ripley Masonic Lodge No. 630 and
of the Scottish Rite and Shriners. He was a
life-time member of the American Legion.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in
death by one sister, Marjorie (Carden)
Gates; and his stepfather, Brooks Edward
Bannister.
Survivors include: his wife, Bette Lee
Morris Carden; one daughter, Elisabeth Lee
(Ian) Martin of Nashville; one sister,
Martha (Carden) Gilchrist of Sevierville;
one stepsister, Diane (Bannister) Carter of
Camden; and one grandson. |
