Lady Rebels Shutout Lady War Eagles |

Atwood (March 24) — The Lady Rebels visited
the Lady War Eagles of West Carroll for a
heated regional contest Monday afternoon.
Evan Hudgins started the first inning with a
single. West Carroll showed good defense,
forcing two groundouts and a strikeout.
A fly-out started the bottom of the first
inning. Starting War Eagle pitcher Caitlin
Inman drew a walk, but she was the only one
to touch base for her team as another
fly-out and a strikeout followed to end the
scoreless inning.
Mignon Salameh hit a single to begin second
inning action. Following a strikeout, Kelsie
Poore hit a single before Inman threw
another strikeout. Lesley Robertson drew a
walk to load the bases, but a short infield
hit by Hudgins made for an easy third out.
Starting McKenzie pitcher Sarah Owen threw
her second strikeout of the game to start
the bottom of the second inning. Emily Hall
hit a solid single, though the next two
batters groundout to end the inning.
West Carroll’s defense came on strong with a
quick tandem of outs in the top of the
third. Lady Rebel Colby Prosser responded
with a double and Salameh ripped an RBI
double to give McKenzie their first run.
Travatia Bowden hit a RBI single, giving the
Lady Rebels a 2-0 lead. Lady War Eagle Inman
threw a strikeout to end the top of the
third inning.
In the bottom of the third, Misty Garmany
hit a single for West Carroll, but the next
three batters were forced out to end the
inning.
Lady Rebel Crystal Doub drew a walk.
Robertson followed with a single and Hudgins
walked to load the bases. Kate Barcroft
advanced to first base on a wild pitch that
scored two runs.
Tenisha Carey singled but a base runner was
tagged out at third base. Colby Prosser and
Salameh drew walks. Inman forced the second
out after replacing relief pitcher Morgan
Woodard. Poore made it to first via an
errant pitch that scored another run,
increasing McKenzie’s lead to 5-0. Doub
walked to add another run. Inman then struck
out Robertson to end the top of fourth with
the Lady Rebels nursing a 6-0 lead.
Doub came in for relief in the bottom of the
fourth inning. Brittany Luther hit a quick
groundout. Doub struck out the next batter
for the second out. Hall hit a single to
make it on base. Doub forced a groundout to
retire the side.
In the top of the fifth, Lady Rebel Hudgins
drew a walk. Kenisha Williams and Carey were
hit by errant pitches to quickly load the
bases. Rachel Simko was brought in for
relief pitching at this point. Prosser
struck out. Salameh hit a 2 RBI single to
give her team an 8-0 lead. A short infield
hit by Bowden produced a double play to
retire McKenzie.
In the bottom of the fifth, Lady War Eagle
Ashley Powell hit a groundout. Garmany hit a
triple deep into right field. Woodard ripped
a single and stole a base. Both base runners
were stranded as Doub threw a strikeout and
forced a groundout to end the fifth inning.
Poore was hit with a pitch and advanced to
first base. Doub swatted a big RBI triple,
bringing the lead to 9-0. Hannah Potts hit
an RBI on a sacrifice out for a 10-0 lead.
Lady War Eagle Simko struck out Hudgins and
Carey, allowing a single in between, to end
the top of the sixth inning.
In their final at-bat, West Carroll’s Luther
hit a single. Doub struck out Simko. Hall
hit a shallow infield hit that allowed
McKenzie to make the double play and end the
game with a shut out, 10-0. |
