Lady Rebel pitcher Sarah Owen throws a fastball. She recorded the win Monday.

Atwood (March 24) — The Lady Rebels visited the Lady War Eagles of West Carroll for a heated regional contest Monday afternoon. Evan Hudgins started the first inning with a single. West Carroll showed good defense, forcing two groundouts and a strikeout.

A fly-out started the bottom of the first inning. Starting War Eagle pitcher Caitlin Inman drew a walk, but she was the only one to touch base for her team as another fly-out and a strikeout followed to end the scoreless inning.

Mignon Salameh hit a single to begin second inning action. Following a strikeout, Kelsie Poore hit a single before Inman threw another strikeout. Lesley Robertson drew a walk to load the bases, but a short infield hit by Hudgins made for an easy third out.

Starting McKenzie pitcher Sarah Owen threw her second strikeout of the game to start the bottom of the second inning. Emily Hall hit a solid single, though the next two batters groundout to end the inning.

West Carroll’s defense came on strong with a quick tandem of outs in the top of the third. Lady Rebel Colby Prosser responded with a double and Salameh ripped an RBI double to give McKenzie their first run. Travatia Bowden hit a RBI single, giving the Lady Rebels a 2-0 lead. Lady War Eagle Inman threw a strikeout to end the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the third, Misty Garmany hit a single for West Carroll, but the next three batters were forced out to end the inning.

Lady Rebel Crystal Doub drew a walk. Robertson followed with a single and Hudgins walked to load the bases. Kate Barcroft advanced to first base on a wild pitch that scored two runs.

Tenisha Carey singled but a base runner was tagged out at third base. Colby Prosser and Salameh drew walks. Inman forced the second out after replacing relief pitcher Morgan Woodard. Poore made it to first via an errant pitch that scored another run, increasing McKenzie’s lead to 5-0. Doub walked to add another run. Inman then struck out Robertson to end the top of fourth with the Lady Rebels nursing a 6-0 lead.

Doub came in for relief in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brittany Luther hit a quick groundout. Doub struck out the next batter for the second out. Hall hit a single to make it on base. Doub forced a groundout to retire the side.

In the top of the fifth, Lady Rebel Hudgins drew a walk. Kenisha Williams and Carey were hit by errant pitches to quickly load the bases. Rachel Simko was brought in for relief pitching at this point. Prosser struck out. Salameh hit a 2 RBI single to give her team an 8-0 lead. A short infield hit by Bowden produced a double play to retire McKenzie.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lady War Eagle Ashley Powell hit a groundout. Garmany hit a triple deep into right field. Woodard ripped a single and stole a base. Both base runners were stranded as Doub threw a strikeout and forced a groundout to end the fifth inning.

Poore was hit with a pitch and advanced to first base. Doub swatted a big RBI triple, bringing the lead to 9-0. Hannah Potts hit an RBI on a sacrifice out for a 10-0 lead. Lady War Eagle Simko struck out Hudgins and Carey, allowing a single in between, to end the top of the sixth inning.

In their final at-bat, West Carroll’s Luther hit a single. Doub struck out Simko. Hall hit a shallow infield hit that allowed McKenzie to make the double play and end the game with a shut out, 10-0.
