Obion County Defeats McKenzie Rebels 71-43

HUNTINGDON (December 27) -- In Huntingdon Point Guard Coca Cola Classic Basketball Tournament action, the Obion County Rebels defeated the McKenzie Rebels 71-43.

Obion County, spurred by two two-point baskets by Nick Gilliam, led McKenzie 5-0 early in the contest before Rebel Luke Anderson converted a three-pointer to give McKenzie the lead at the 3:21 mark of the first period. Obion County forward Silvanius Lee responded with a three-pointer to tie the contest eight-all with 2:01 remaining in the first period. Gilliam converted a two-pointer at the buzzer to give Obion County a narrow 10-8 lead at the end of the first period.

Obion County’s Cody Gibson (8), Brandon Smith (7) and Gilliam (6) responded offensively as the O.C. Rebels outscored McKenzie 31-8 in the second quarter to lead 41-16 at the half.

Obion County continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring McKenzie 18-10 to lead 59-26 at the end of the third period.

McKenzie’s Derek Carr (12) and Payne (6) responded offensively in the fourth period as the Rebels outscored Obion County 17-12 before ultimately falling 71-43.

Obion County was led offensively by Smith (13 points, three three-pointers), Lee (12 points, two three-pointers), Dustin Owens (10 points, two three pointers), Gilliam (10) and Corey Gibson (8).

McKenzie was led offensively by Derek Carr (13 points, two three-pointers), Payne (12 points, three three-pointers), Luke Anderson (eight points, two three-pointers) and Tyler Holt (5). Also contributing scoring for the Rebels were Drew Brown (3) and Josh Brown (2).
