Bulldog Ben Rollins scores
as Rebel Josh Brown defends.
HUNTINGDON (December 28) -- In Huntingdon
Point Guard Coca Cola Classic Basketball
Tournament action, the McKenzie Rebels
defeated a scrappy Gleason Bulldogs squad
53-48.
Led by Rebel Derek Carr’s two three-pointer
performance, McKenzie led Gleason 19-11 at
the end of the first period.
Gleason, utilizing the three-point shooting
of Ben Rollins and Evan Orr, narrowed the
Rebel lead to 19-17 at the 6:15 mark of the
second period. McKenzie responded as Hunter
Herrin (4), Josh Brown (2) and Shabree Payne
(2) scored to extend the Rebel lead to 27-20
at the half.
Gleason, led by Rollins’ (7) strong
shooting, cut into the Rebel lead in the
second half, eventually capturing their
first lead of the contest 36-33 with Evan
Orr’s huge three-pointer with 49 seconds
remaining in the third period. Rebel Josh
Brown responded by nailing a two-pointer at
the buzzer to reclaim the lead for the
Rebels 37-35.
Bulldog Ben Summer tied the game 37-all with
a lay up at the 7:26 mark of the fourth
period. Gleason took the lead 40-37 at the
6:17 mark due to a Cody Ezell three-pointer.
Gleason extended their lead to 45-40 at the
4:30 mark before Rebel Shabree Payne
converted a two-pointer to narrow the lead
to 45-42. McKenzie’s Drew Brown was fouled
and converted two free throws to narrow the
Gleason lead to 45-44 with 3:21 remaining in
the contest.
McKenzie’s Shabree Payne converted a
two-pointer to recapture a 46-45 lead for
the Rebels at the 2:53 mark.
At the 1:36 mark, Bulldog Rollins drilled a
three-pointer to tie the contest at 48-all.
Rebel Derek Carr responded by drilling a
huge three-pointer and free throw to give
McKenzie a 51-48 lead with 47 seconds
remaining. Payne converted two free throws
near the end of the fourth period to earn
the Rebels a hard-fought 53-48 victory.
McKenzie was led offensively by Carr (18
points, four three-pointers), Payne (12
points, one three-pointer), Josh Brown (9),
Hunter Herrin (9), Luke Anderson (3) and
Drew Brown (2).
Gleason was led offensively by Rollins (19
points, five three-pointers), Orr (9 points,
two three-pointers), Summer (8), Cody Ezell
(7) and Colin Bennett (5). |
