McKENZIE (April 10)- The Lady Rebels
hosted the Gleason Lady Bulldogs Thursday afternoon, winning in a
tidy, one-hour, three inning contest. McKenzie's Brooke Baucum
allowed no hits, and the Lady Rebel offense handled the rest, putting
up 15 runs in three innings to end the game via mercy rule.
Baucum struck out the side in the first
inning on 17 pitches. Lady Rebel Holly Potts led off the home half
with a double and was driven in on a Jessi Elliot groundout. Emma
Arnold, Sadie Laws, Carla Craddock, Brooke Baucum, Riley Toombs,
Savannah Pratt, and Beth Barcroft hit consecutive singles, scoring a
total of six more runs to give the Lady Rebels a 7-0 lead after one
Baucum struck out two more as she
retired the side again in the second, this time on eight pitches. The
Lady Rebels scored seven more in the bottom half on three singles,
two walks, and several errors, giving McKenzie a 12-0 lead.
Baucum struck out one more in the
third, but also allowed the only Gleason baserunner by hitting a
batter. In the home half, Laws led off with a single and was scored
by a Craddock triple. Baucum drove in Craddock on a groundout, and
Toombs drew a walk. Toombs stole second and advanced to third on a
groundout by Pratt. Barcroft laced a ground ball to right to score
Toombs and end the game.
Lady Rebel Brooke Baucum threw the
three-inning shutout victory, allowing no hits and no walks while
striking out six. Lady Bulldog Emily Bell took the loss, allowing ten
earned runs on 15 hits while walking three and striking out three in
two and two-thirds innings.
Lady Rebel Beth Barcroft went 3-3 with
three RBI; Baucum was 2-3 with four RBI.
