PARIS (December 15) — After 43 years in law enforcement, Lieutenant Gary Vandiver has retired. Sheriff Josh Frey said, “It’s very much a loss for the sheriff’s office. His desire and expertise, especially in working in child abuse cases, is invaluable. But fortunately, he passed that knowledge on to so many others at the sheriff’s office. McKENZIE (December 9) — On Saturday, Hometown Health Clinic hosted the free community event “A Very Merry Hometown Christmas” and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of its newly renovated pediatric center. The publicly listed company is betting on the future of titanium mining in the northwest Tennessee communities to provide a lightweight, but strong metal for uses as aircraft, military vehicles, and even metal shields for EV batteries on automobiles. more

Stephen Brown, a lifelong McKenzie native and CSX engineer, had the recent honor of working the CSX Santa Train, which runs through parts of Kentucky, Virgina, and Tennessee along the Appalachian Trail. In its 81st year, the Santa Train carried approximately 13 tons of supplies to those along the 110-mile route, consisting of toys, food, wrapping paper, and stuffed backpacks. The train embarked on its 10-hour journey beginning in Pikeville, Kentucky and ending in Kingsport, Tenn. more

McKENZIE (November 9) — Savannah Davis chose to continue her athletic and academic career at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. The McKenzie High School senior signed commitment documents on Thursday to play basketball for the university. more
