James and Autumn Stephens of McKenzie announce the birth of their daughter, Myla Jane Stephens. The young lady was born September 5, 2023 at 6:59 p.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital of Union City. She weighed 6 pounds and 9 ounces and was 20 inches long. more

Friday, September 8, 2023, was a great day for the annual Dr. Jerry Atkins Habitat for Humanity Golf Scramble. With blue skies and a light breeze the weather was perfect for a golf game. Eleven teams enjoyed a day of golf with all the proceeds going to Habitat. Upon arrival the participants were checked in, given a goodie bag, and received a meal from Chick-fil-A. A little before noon Michelle Sanders welcomed the participants and Mrs. Paula Atkins thanked everyone for coming. Drawings were held for sleeves of golf balls for door prizes. Before the participants left to go to their beginning holes, Brooks Jackson, youth minister at the Huntingdon church of Christ, prayed for the players and the work of Habitat. more
Six students from Carroll County attended the WestStar Leadership Program’s 2023 FutureStar Leadership Summit on Sept. 12 at the Boling University Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin. more
HUNTINGDON (September 20) — A medical clinic will soon be added to the three campuses of Huntingdon Special School District. During the September 20 meeting of the Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education, board members approved Huntingdon-based Evans Medical Clinic as the on-site provider of medical services. more

HUNTINGDON — As part of the Huntingdon Heritage Festival, Carroll Arts, Inc. is hosting its annual Storytelling at the municipal building to the right of the Dixie Carter Performing Arts and Academic Enrichment Center in Huntingdon on Saturday, September 23. more
McKenzie Marching Rebels competed in the South Gibson Marching Invitational held Saturday. A total of 19 bands competed. McKenzie placed first in Band in Class A competition, third place in field commander, and first place in color guard. more

HUNTINGDON (September 8) — During a called meeting on Friday, the Huntingdon Mayor and Town Council voted to purchase three 2023 pickup trucks from Lonnie Cobb Ford at a price of $131,334 for the Utility Department and one Ford F150 4x4 at a price of $43,778 from Lonnie Cobb along with five 20233 trucks for the Street and Parks Department for $218,890. All vehicles are quoted at the state bid price. more
Bethel University along with the Carroll County Government and the Town of Huntingdon agreed to enter into an education partnership. In this agreement, Bethel University will extend a reduced tuition rate to both governments’ employees enrolling in Bethel’s on-line degree programs. This would include undergraduate degrees, graduate criminal justice tuition, and graduate business tuition. Bethel is also extending the benefit of a waived application fee to the employees applying to any of these programs. more

HUNTINGDON (September 9) — The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fund-raising event was held Saturday after a three-year absence due to the COVID pandemic. The scaled-down event was a good start to reinvigorate the event that once raised significant funds for the eradication of cancer. more
ATWOOD (September 7) — The West Carroll Special School District school board approved a $10 million budget for the 2024 fiscal year at their meeting Thursday, Sept. 7. This budget includes a 6.25 percent salary increase for all employees of the district. more
McKENZIE (September 4) — The McKenzie Rotary Club’s program on Tuesday was present by Kasey Muench, executive director of Northwest Tennessee Tourism. more
West Carroll High School held its 2023 Football Homecoming on Friday, September 8. The royalty was crowned in pre-game ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. more
