Ella Jessica Reynolds, a member of the Boy Scout Troop 5252 and a resident of Clarksville, Tennessee, has earned the honor of Eagle Scout. She is the granddaughter of McKenzie residents Brigadier General (Ret) and Mrs. Charles Argo and the daughter of Jesse and Susan (Argo) Reynolds. Ella is the second female in Troop 5252 to accomplish the honor. A Court of Honor ceremony was held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, celebrating her Eagle Scout rank. Eagle Scout is the highest rank offered by the Boy Scouts and only 3 to 4 percent of Boy Scout members attain this prestigious honor. more

On Wednesday, February 22, McKenzie Middle School held an African-American History Program. Sixteen students presented information about African American’s contributions to the past and present. The focus of the event was the accomplishments of: Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, Dr. King, Maya Angelou, Madame C.J. Walker, Robert F. Smith, Bobby Marshall, Fritz Pollard, Bobby Marshall, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and the recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Rap. more

The Bethel/Eastside Family and Community Education (FCE) group met on February 9 with 11 members present. The meeting was held at the Mays home and hosted by Lacy Yelley, the extension agent. The devotion was given by Gail Eubanks, president, from Ephesians 4:29 reminding everyone that words of communication can be used to tear down or build up. The club Collect was read in unison followed by the roll call. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the roll call was answered from the question ‘Who was your first crush or childhood sweetheart?’ The minutes were read and approved. more
Average gasoline prices in Tennessee rose 2.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.09 per gallon on Monday according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 2.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 18.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 6.9 cents in the last week and stands at $4.45 per gallon. more

MARTIN — The Master of Business Administration program at the University of Tennessee at Martin provided fall 2022 students the opportunity to work directly under the owners and managers of local businesses as outside consultants through the Management 790 Consulting Project class. Student teams used all MBA competencies such as data gathering, analysis, interpretation, critical and creative thinking, and decision making when executing the project. more
McKENZIE (February 14) — Dr. Charley Deal was the featured program for the McKenzie Rotary Club. Dr. Deal serves as the vice chancellor for university advancement and is responsible for managing UT Martin’s fundraising and alumni programs; coordinating development efforts with UT Foundation and UT System administration; representing UT Martin in the community and among alumni groups and potential university supporters; and serves on the UT Martin chancellor’s cabinet. more
HUNTINGDON (February 15) — A new roof construction at Huntingdon Middle School is almost complete, according to Dr. Jonathan Kee, director of schools. Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education heard that report and decided to purchase other real estate near the Primary School during the February 15 meeting. more
OKINAWA — McKenzie native Justin Logan, MSC, US Navy is now captain of the Third Medical Battalion serving U.S. Marines and the U.S. Navy. He assumed command on January 31 in a Change of Command Ceremony. more

The Inglenook Book Club met February 8 at the Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie with 19 members attending. Hostesses were Zia Locke and Beverly Mueller who served double chocolate cake, chocolate covered strawberries, assorted cheesecake balls, chocolate candies and beverages. The meeting was called to order by President Carolyn Moore and the Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Motto were recited by all. more
