MEMORIAL DAY FIELD OF FLAGS
MCKENZIE/HUNTINGDON: The Carroll County Carl Perkins Center will be displaying flags for Memorial Day at Thomas Park in Huntingdon and McKenzie City Park. These will be flown for prior to Memorial Day and during the holiday ceremonies. A placard with those being honored along with the donor will be attached to each flag. These names will also appear in the programs. Flags are $25 each, they are yours to keep, and may be picked up after the event Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Carl Perkins Center in Carroll County. Deadline for orders will be May 8. Mail checks along with the donor and honoree information to: Carl Perkins Center, P.O. Box 871, Huntingdon, TN 38344. Call 986-5920 for information about ordering a flag or sponsoring the event.

BRUCETON IN MAY FESTIVAL
BRUCETON: Mark your calendars for the 7th Annual Bruceton in May Festival which will be on May 9 and 10. We'll kick off the fun with a dance on Friday night featuring Kaptain Klymaxx and continue on Saturday with a full day of activities, including a Bar-B-Q Cook-off.
Train rides, inflatable park, dog show, games, food and entertainment will be available along with a great show on Saturday night.

BAKE SALE
DRESDEN: Central F.C.E. Club will be having their last bake sale of the year, Friday, May 9, 8:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Weakley County Courthouse. Come early for best selections for that mid-morning break and/or that special dessert for Mother's Day. Cakes, cookies, pies, breads, etc. will be available.

BAKE SALE FOR BOBBY CANTRELL
GREENFIELD: There will be a benefit bake sale for Bobby Cantrell on May 9 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Greenfield City Hall. Bobby fell 25 feet from the roof of a house on April 21 while painting. He suffered broken ribs, punctured lungs, pelvis fractures, etc. in the fall and was airlifted to the MED in Memphis. City Hall will be having a bake sale for Bobby to donate to his medical expenses and other personal needs. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.

DRIVE FOR KIDS AT MARTIN ELEMENTARY
MARTIN: Chrysler works with parents across the country helping kids through a business-to-school partnership called "Drive for the Kids." On May 9, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Chrysler will be at the Martin Elementary School Field Day. Taylor Automotive will have new minivans and other family vehicles available for parents to examine and drive. For every adult who drives a new Chrysler and completes a short questionnaire, Chrysler will donate $5.00 to the Martin Elementary School. If both husband and wife drive, and each fill out a questionnaire, MES receives a $10 donation.

8TH ANNUAL 6T'S HORSE FARMING DAY
LATHAM: Ever wanted to plow; rake hay with a horse or take a horse drawn wagon ride? Then here is your chance. The 8th Annual 6T's Horse Farming Day will be held on Saturday, May 10 (rain date May 17). The activities begin at 9:00 a.m. until the last horse leaves the field. Special features include "horse power" logging demonstration; adult and youth plowing events; just plain ole horse plowing; disking; raking/baling hay and wagon rides with lots of fun, food and fellowship. All work will be done with horses and mules. Drinks and vittles provided by Dresden FFA Chapter. Admission and activities are free. The field day will take place 7 miles north of Dresden off Hwy. 118, 1 1/2 miles down Turbeville Road. BRUCETON IN MAY BAR-B-Q COOK-OFF
BRUCETON: There is still time to enter the 7th Annual Bruceton in May Bar-B-Q Cook-off on May 10 at Memorial Park in Bruceton. Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded in these categories: shoulders, ribs, and cook's choice and vinegar, mustard and ketchup sauce.

BENEFIT GOSPEL SINGING
MCKENZIE: There will be a Benefit Gospel Singing featuring The Labourers quartet on Saturday, May 10, at 5 p.m. at McKenzie Park under the Barn. The proceeds will go to Kenneth and Janet Barton for help on medical expenses. Janet has been at Memphis East more than six weeks.
There will be a cookout, cake walk, and silent auction. All proceeds will go to Kenneth and Janet.

WEST CARROLL BACCALAUREATE SERVICE
ATWOOD: The West Carroll High School Baccalaureate Service for the Class of 2008 will be held at the West Carroll Jr./Sr. High School gymnasium Sunday, May 11, at 6 p.m. James Ferguson, pastor at the McLemoresville Baptist Church, will be the speaker.

You must bring the following items: If you receive food stamps, food stamp card and your food stamp approval letter; If you do not receive food stamps or do not have your approval letter you must bring proof of income for all in household. DINING WITH DIABETES
HUNTINGDON: A cooking school for diabetics and those who care for them will begin Wednesday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Carroll County Complex Senior Citizens Room. ANNUAL NORANDAL RETIREES REUNION

GLEASON: Gleason Volunteer Fire Department will host their annual BBQ Chicken Cook on Saturday, May 17. You can purchase tickets from any fireman or City Hall. Tickets are $5 and will include: chicken, baked beans, slaw, and bread.

GLEASON: The City of Gleason will be having a "Citywide Yard Sale" on Saturday, May 17.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST
HOLLOW ROCK: VFW Post 4349 and Ladies Auxiliary will host a pancake breakfast on May 19 from 7 to 10 a.m. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, sausage/biscuits, gravy/biscuits, coffee, orange juice and milk will be available for $5 for adults, $3 for children. BOOK SIGNING
SHARON: The book, "Sharon: The Last 100 Years, A History of Sharon, Tennessee," by Martha Jim Roberts is available again, thanks to the Sharon Progress and Growth Committee, the Sharon Public Library and First State Bank. Mrs. Roberts will sign copies of old and new editions of the book at the Sharon Library at 10:00 a.m. on May 20. Books are available for $25.00 at the Sharon Library and at Sharon City Hall.

PRO SHOW 2008
MILAN: Tolley & Lowe Paint Center presents the Pro Show 2008, Wednesday, May 21 at 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Tolley & Lowe parking lot, 1067 North First Street in Milan. MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY
DRESDEN: Members of Weakley County Veterans organizations will observe Memorial Day with a ceremony to be held at the Weakley County War Memorial on the Courthouse Square in Dresden on May 26 at 11:00 a.m.
Americans pay tribute on Memorial Day to those who fell in battle defending our country. The observance had its beginnings following the Civil War when Southerners marked the graves of those who died fighting for the Confederacy. Today, we honor all of America's war dead - those who died that freedom might live.
All veterans present will salute their fallen comrades and ask that all of Weakley County Citizens pause to remember America's fallen sons and daughters on this upcoming Memorial Day.

COMMUNITY WIDE YARD SALE
PALMERSVILLE: A community wide yard sale will be held May 30-31 at Pirate's Creek Community Church (the old Palmersville School). HUNTINGDON: The AARP Driver safety program (55Alive), sponsored by Carroll Bank And Trust, will be held on June 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day at Carroll Bank and Trust Community Room. This program is designed as a refresher for motorists age 50 and older on defensive driving techniques, age related changes and new traffic laws. AUDITION DATES ANNOUNCED FOR "GODSPELL" AT THE DIXIE
HUNTINGDON: The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center announces open auditions for the upcoming production of "Godspell" (show dates: July 24-26 at 7:30 p.m.) The show includes a variety of roles for males and females ages 18 and over. Auditions will take place on Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17, from 6-8:00 p.m. at The Dixie. Specific songs and monologues required for auditions will be available for pick-up at The Dixie beginning Monday, June 2. CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP AT MCKENZIE CITY PARK
MCKENZIE: McKenzie City Park will be the site of Cub Scout Day Camp on Tuesday, June 17, through Friday, June 20, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The theme for the 2008 Cub Scout Day Camp is "Cub Scouting: Passport to Adventure". Archery, BB guns, games, craft projects and a cool t-shirt are just a few of the things planned for Cub Scouts at the annual Cub Scout Day Camp. Lunch and snacks are provided. The cost is $60. The Early Bird fee is $50 for registrations paid before May 16.
New Scouts are welcome. They will pay an additional $10 to cover the Boy Scout annual registration fee. In the fall they will join a Pack and get a whole year of fun with scouting.
Boys completing kindergarten can join Scouts now, attend Cub Scout Day Camp this summer, and participate in a whole year of fun with scouting in the 1st grade as a Tiger Cub.

WEST TN TEEN INSTITUTE AT BETHEL JUNE 23-27
MCKENZIE: The 5th Annual West Tennessee Teen Institute will be held at Bethel College in McKenzie June 23-27. This is a fun-filled and educational five-day youth leadership camp sponsored by Mid-West Community Services Agency and the Tennessee Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.
WTTI provides education and training for teens ages thirteen to eighteen in areas of personal development, leadership and alcohol/drug abuse prevention. The mission of the West Tennessee Teen Institute is to challenge the youth of West Tennessee to unlock their potential, lead by example and take a proactive role in bringing about positive changes in their own communities.
There will be keynote speakers, workshops, and a lot of fun and games. MCKENZIE FREEDOM FESTIVAL JULY 4, 2008
MCKENZIE: Mark your calendars to spend July 4 in McKenzie to celebrate our country's birthday. The day will begin with a delicious breakfast sponsored by the VFW. A patriotic window and yard contest sponsored by the Morning Glory Garden Club, and a grand parade beginning at 6 p.m. Following the parade, park activities include a water slide, great food, crafts, the David Johnson Chorus, and of course a spectacular fireworks show. HUNTINGDON: Ride for Life, sponsored by the Rainbow of Hope Relay for Life team, will be held Saturday, May 10, at the Huntingdon Church of Christ. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and departure at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $20 per bike. Ride will last approximately three hours. Lunch will be included with entry fee. First 25 to register will get a free T-shirt. Additional T-shirts will be available at $10 each.

NIGHT OF MUSIC
HUNTINGDON: Mark your calendar for Thursday, May 15, to enjoy a night of music for only $5 and support Baptist Memorial Hospital-Huntingdon's Relay for Life team. BMH-Huntingdon employees and family members of employees will provide entertainment. Performing will be Cassie Allen, Parker Birdwell, Brent Oatsvall, Dr. Sergio Salazar, Josh Umstead, Dr. Kevin Wheatley, and Debbie Wilson. HUNTINGDON: The Huntingdon First Methodist Church will have their annual Billy Keeton Bar-B-Q Chicken-to-go on Friday, May 16. HUNTINGDON: The Huntingdon First Methodist Church Relay for Life team is offering a unique opportunity to this area called "Treasures in the Attic". Period clothing, props and accessories are provided for photographs to be taken by General Photographic Resources (a company who has been in business for over 40 years). For only $9.95 your collection will include one 8x10, two 5x7s and eight wallet prints from the first pose. Our relay team will receive 100% of this money. Images will be captured using classic black and white style, with custom tinted highlights. If you wish to purchase more photos from the other poses taken, packages as well as individual sheets are available.

GREENFIELD: Join us May 30 at the Greenfield Football Field for the Southwest Relay For Life. Activities will begin at 3:00 p.m. and we will be selling good food at 5:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 7:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. it's time to get crazy with games. Then at 9:30 p.m., we get serious and begin our Luminary Ceremony to honor our friends and loved ones who have been struck with cancer. MCKENZIE: A Town Hall Meeting will be held Thursday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. at McKenzie City Hall. The State of Tennessee Recreation Board will be here to meet with interested citizens to plan future development of our parks and improve facilities in McKenzie. All citizens will be given an opportunity to address the state panel. Show your support and attend.

HUNTINGDON: The meeting for the May 13 regular meeting of the Huntingdon Town Council has been changed to Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m. due to scheduling conflicts. The Public Hearing relating to the proposed rezoning on Paris Street and the Public Hearing relating to the Huntingdon Beer Board has also been changed to Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is 6 p.m. on May 27. MARTIN: The Board of Directors of Northwest Tennessee Economic Development Council will hold their regularly scheduled quarterly meeting Friday, May 16, beginning at 10 a.m. This meeting will be held in the private room of the Hearth Restaurant located in Martin. Lunch will be provided at noon.

MCKENZIE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING POSTPONED
MCKENZIE: The McKenzie Special School District Board of Education monthly meeting scheduled for May 6 has been canceled and rescheduled for May 20 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at the McKenzie Board of Education central office, 114 Bell Avenue, McKenzie.

FIRE DEPARTMENT DUES
LATHAM/DUKEDOM: The fire dues for the Latham and Dukedom Volunteer Fire Department were due January 1. They are $50 per residence and commercial building. If you have not paid your fire dues, they may be mailed to: Latham & Dukedom Vol. Fire Dept., 5337 Hwy. 118, Dresden, TN 38225. Please include address of residence or commercial building that you are paying for. Also, keep in mind, for all non-members fire calls have been raised to $1500. (17-3)

LOOKING FOR 1968 CLASSMATES
DRESDEN: The Dresden High School Class of 1968 ia planning their 40th Reunion for July 4-5. The class needs contact information for classmates Joy Erwin, Carolyn Morris, William Taylor, Bill Lockhart, and John Nicks. CARROLL COUNTY UNITED NEIGHBORS NEEDS FOR MAY
MCKENZIE: Clothing needs: We are now taking summer items only. Our greatest need is still for men's jeans in all sizes, larger sizes for men and women, and newborn baby clothes.
Food pantry: crackers, tuna, chicken, Vienna sausages, other canned meats, and juice.
Miscellaneous and household needs: We are in need of shampoo and deodorant. There is also a need for household cleaning supplies.
Please bring donations between 8:30 - noon and 1-4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, or 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Friday. Please note that the thrift store is only open from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 1:00-3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. We are closed Saturday and Sunday. United Neighbors partners with United Way and local churches and individuals. We are located at 2455 Cedar Street or you may call 352-0547.

SANTA'S HELPERS MAY NEEDS
DRESDEN: Food Bank needs - canned vegetables (carrots, potatoes, beans, peas), juices, canned meats (chili, tuna, chicken), noodles, rice, canned soups, dry foods (instant potatoes, stuffing, cereal, muffin and cake or brownie mix, etc.)
Household items - Paper towels, toilet paper
Donation hours - Mondays and Fridays 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., and Wednesday 12:00-4:00 p.m.
Santa's Helpers is open the above days to help the public with assistance. Items are not sold, but a monetary donation is appreciated.
