MEMORIAL DAY FIELD OF FLAGS
MCKENZIE/HUNTINGDON: The Carroll County Carl
Perkins Center will be displaying flags for
Memorial Day at Thomas Park in Huntingdon
and McKenzie City Park. These will be flown
for prior to Memorial Day and during the
holiday ceremonies. A placard with those
being honored along with the donor will be
attached to each flag. These names will also
appear in the programs. Flags are $25 each,
they are yours to keep, and may be picked up
after the event Proceeds from the sale will
benefit the Carl Perkins Center in Carroll
County. Deadline for orders will be May 8.

BRUCETON IN MAY FESTIVAL
BRUCETON: Mark your calendars for the 7th
Annual Bruceton in May Festival which will
be on May 9 and 10. We'll kick off the fun
with a dance on Friday night featuring
Kaptain Klymaxx and continue on Saturday
with a full day of activities, including a
Bar-B-Q Cook-off.
Train rides, inflatable park, dog show,
games, food and entertainment will be
available along with a great show on
Saturday night.

be a part of the entertainment on Saturday.
BAKE SALE
DRESDEN: Central F.C.E. Club will be having
their last bake sale of the year, Friday,
May 9, 8:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Weakley
County Courthouse. Come early for best
selections for that mid-morning break and/or
that special dessert for Mother's Day.
Cakes, cookies, pies, breads, etc. will be
available.
BAKE SALE FOR BOBBY CANTRELL
GREENFIELD: There will be a benefit bake
sale for Bobby Cantrell on May 9 from 8:00
a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Greenfield City
Hall. Bobby fell 25 feet from the roof of a
house on April 21 while painting. He
suffered broken ribs, punctured lungs,
pelvis fractures, etc. in the fall and was
airlifted to the MED in Memphis. City Hall
will be having a bake sale for Bobby to
donate to his medical expenses and other
personal needs. Any donations will be
greatly appreciated.
DRIVE FOR KIDS AT MARTIN ELEMENTARY
MARTIN: Chrysler works with parents across
the country helping kids through a
business-to-school partnership called "Drive
for the Kids." On May 9, from 9:30 a.m.
until 12:30 p.m., Chrysler will be at the
Martin Elementary School Field Day. Taylor
Automotive will have new minivans and other
family vehicles available for parents to
examine and drive. For every adult who
drives a new Chrysler and completes a short
questionnaire, Chrysler will donate $5.00 to
the Martin Elementary School. If both
husband and wife drive, and each fill out a
questionnaire, MES receives a $10 donation.
8TH ANNUAL 6T'S HORSE FARMING DAY
LATHAM: Ever wanted to plow; rake hay with a
horse or take a horse drawn wagon ride? Then
here is your chance. The 8th Annual 6T's
Horse Farming Day will be held on Saturday,
May 10 (rain date May 17). The activities
begin at 9:00 a.m. until the last horse
leaves the field. Special features include
"horse power" logging demonstration; adult
and youth plowing events; just plain ole
horse plowing; disking; raking/baling hay
and wagon rides with lots of fun, food and
fellowship. All work will be done with
horses and mules. Drinks and vittles
provided by Dresden FFA Chapter. Admission
and activities are free. The field day will
take place 7 miles north of Dresden off Hwy.

BRUCETON IN MAY BAR-B-Q COOK-OFF
BRUCETON: There is still time to enter the
7th Annual Bruceton in May Bar-B-Q Cook-off
on May 10 at Memorial Park in Bruceton.
Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded in
these categories: shoulders, ribs, and
cook's choice and vinegar, mustard and
ketchup sauce.

BENEFIT GOSPEL SINGING
MCKENZIE: There will be a Benefit Gospel
Singing featuring The Labourers quartet on
Saturday, May 10, at 5 p.m. at McKenzie Park
under the Barn. The proceeds will go to
Kenneth and Janet Barton for help on medical
expenses. Janet has been at Memphis East
more than six weeks.
There will be a cookout, cake walk, and
silent auction. All proceeds will go to
Kenneth and Janet.

BOOK SIGNING
SHARON: The book, "Sharon: The Last 100

MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY
DRESDEN: Members of Weakley County Veterans
organizations will observe Memorial Day with
a ceremony to be held at the Weakley County
War Memorial on the Courthouse Square in
Dresden on May 26 at 11:00 a.m.
Americans pay tribute on Memorial Day to
those who fell in battle defending our
country. The observance had its beginnings
following the Civil War when Southerners
marked the graves of those who died fighting
for the Confederacy. Today, we honor all of
America's war dead - those who died that
freedom might live.
All veterans present will salute their
fallen comrades and ask that all of Weakley
County Citizens pause to remember America's
fallen sons and daughters on this upcoming
Memorial Day.
COMMUNITY WIDE YARD SALE

HUNTINGDON: The AARP Driver safety program

designed as a refresher for motorists age 50
and older on defensive driving techniques,
age related changes and new traffic laws.

AUDITION DATES ANNOUNCED FOR "GODSPELL" AT
THE DIXIE
HUNTINGDON: The Dixie Carter Performing Arts
Center announces open auditions for the
upcoming production of "Godspell" (show
dates: July 24-26 at 7:30 p.m.) The show
includes a variety of roles for males and
females ages 18 and over. Auditions will
take place on Monday, June 16 and Tuesday,
June 17, from 6-8:00 p.m. at The Dixie.
Specific songs and monologues required for
auditions will be available for pick-up at

CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP AT MCKENZIE CITY PARK
MCKENZIE: McKenzie City Park will be the
site of Cub Scout Day Camp on Tuesday, June
17, through Friday, June 20, 8:30 a.m. to
3:00 p.m.
The theme for the 2008 Cub Scout Day Camp is
"Cub Scouting: Passport to Adventure".
Archery, BB guns, games, craft projects and
a cool t-shirt are just a few of the things
planned for Cub Scouts at the annual Cub
Scout Day Camp. Lunch and snacks are
provided. The cost is $60. The Early Bird
fee is $50 for registrations paid before May
16.
New Scouts are welcome. They will pay an
additional $10 to cover the Boy Scout annual
registration fee. In the fall they will join
a Pack and get a whole year of fun with
scouting.
Boys completing kindergarten can join Scouts
now, attend Cub Scout Day Camp this summer,
and participate in a whole year of fun with
scouting in the 1st grade as a Tiger Cub.

WEST TN TEEN INSTITUTE AT BETHEL JUNE 23-27
MCKENZIE: The 5th Annual West Tennessee Teen
Institute will be held at Bethel College in
McKenzie June 23-27. This is a fun-filled
and educational five-day youth leadership
camp sponsored by Mid-West Community
Services Agency and the Tennessee Division
of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.
WTTI provides education and training for
teens ages thirteen to eighteen in areas of
personal development, leadership and
alcohol/drug abuse prevention. The mission
of the West Tennessee Teen Institute is to
challenge the youth of West Tennessee to
unlock their potential, lead by example and
take a proactive role in bringing about
positive changes in their own communities.
There will be keynote speakers, workshops,

MCKENZIE: Mark your calendars to spend July
4 in McKenzie to celebrate our country's

by the Morning Glory Garden Club, and a
grand parade beginning at 6 p.m. Following

is $20 per bike. Ride will last
approximately three hours. Lunch will be

only $9.95 your collection will include one
8x10, two 5x7s and eight wallet prints from
the first pose. Our relay team will receive
100% of this money. Images will be captured
using classic black and white style, with
custom tinted highlights. If you wish to
purchase more photos from the other poses
taken, packages as well as individual sheets
are available.

begin our Luminary Ceremony to honor our
friends and loved ones who have been struck

HUNTINGDON: The meeting for the May 13

rezoning on Paris Street and the Public
Hearing relating to the Huntingdon Beer
Board has also been changed to Thursday, May

MCKENZIE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING POSTPONED
MCKENZIE: The McKenzie Special School
District Board of Education monthly meeting
scheduled for May 6 has been canceled and
rescheduled for May 20 at 7 p.m. The meeting
will take place at the McKenzie Board of
Education central office, 114 Bell Avenue,
McKenzie.

FIRE DEPARTMENT DUES
LATHAM/DUKEDOM: The fire dues for the Latham
and Dukedom Volunteer Fire Department were
due January 1. They are $50 per residence
and commercial building. If you have not
paid your fire dues, they may be mailed to:
Latham & Dukedom Vol. Fire Dept., 5337 Hwy.
118, Dresden, TN 38225. Please include
address of residence or commercial building
that you are paying for. Also, keep in mind,
for all non-members fire calls have been

LOOKING FOR 1968 CLASSMATES
DRESDEN: The Dresden High School Class of
1968 ia planning their 40th Reunion for July
4-5. The class needs contact information for
classmates Joy Erwin, Carolyn Morris,
William Taylor, Bill Lockhart, and John

CARROLL COUNTY UNITED NEIGHBORS NEEDS FOR
MAY
MCKENZIE: Clothing needs: We are now taking
summer items only. Our greatest need is
still for men's jeans in all sizes, larger
sizes for men and women, and newborn baby
clothes.
Food pantry: crackers, tuna, chicken, Vienna
sausages, other canned meats, and juice.
Miscellaneous and household needs: We are in
need of shampoo and deodorant. There is also
a need for household cleaning supplies.
Please bring donations between 8:30 - noon
and 1-4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, or
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Friday. Please note
that the thrift store is only open from
8:30-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and
1:00-3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. We
are closed Saturday and Sunday. United
Neighbors partners with United Way and local
churches and individuals. We are located at
2455 Cedar Street or you may call 352-0547.
SANTA'S HELPERS MAY NEEDS
DRESDEN: Food Bank needs - canned vegetables
(carrots, potatoes, beans, peas), juices,
canned meats (chili, tuna, chicken),
noodles, rice, canned soups, dry foods
(instant potatoes, stuffing, cereal, muffin
and cake or brownie mix, etc.)
Household items - Paper towels, toilet paper
Donation hours - Mondays and Fridays 8:00
a.m.-12:00 p.m., and Wednesday 12:00-4:00
p.m.
Santa's Helpers is open the above days to
help the public with assistance. Items are
not sold, but a monetary donation is
appreciated.

information or emergency help after hours.
