HUNTINGDON (April 5) — On Friday, after nearly a year of delays, the case against Carroll County Commissioner William “Lin” Smith, former Carroll County District 8 Fire Chief, and his wife, Malisa “Lisa” Smith, former department treasurer, has come to a close through a plea agreement. The Smiths pled guilty to a Class C Felony for theft over $30,000. According to documents provided by the 24th Judaical Circuit Court, the couple will repay $30,150.86 in restitution to the District 8 Volunteer Fire Department and will receive six years of supervised probation in lieu of jail time. After the probation and if restitution ($418.76 monthly repayment) is met, the felony will be expunged from their criminal record. more
McKENZIE (April 8) — The City of McKenzie’s medical first responder program continues to grow. On Saturday, ten members of the McKenzie Fire Department along with two McKenzie police officers took part in training sessions to become qualified as medical first responders. more
McKENZIE (APRIL 2) — An overturned tanker loaded with herbicide blocked U.S. 79 on Tuesday evening. more
The shooting happened at approximately midnight in the 400 block of Travis Road. Deputies from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Martin Police Department had responded to the area on a report of a stolen vehicle that had been set on fire. Information gathered during their investigation led them to the home of 44-year-old Bobby Dickens, a resident in the area. more
McKENZIE (April 1) — The McKenzie Special School District announces McKenzie High School has hired Keith Hodge as head football coach. Hodge is the 2023 Dresden football coach that blemished the Rebels’ undefeated regular season. Both teams met in the semi-final with the Rebels advancing to the state championship game. more
PARIS (March 28) — Jeremy Pate was honored for 25 years of safe driving with United Parcel Service during a brief ceremony at the Paris Tennessee distribution center. Pate, a McKenzie resident, his wife Gina, and girls, Emma, Sydney and Lydia were in attendance. more

HUNTINGDON (March 26) — Water issues including miscolored water and improper readings of customer water meters were discussed during the Huntingdon Mayor and Town Council meeting on March 26. During the same meeting, the Council approved $1,536,146 in two projects to replace aging water lines and to install all new self-reading water meters. more

Kerry Scott Killebrew, 72, of Dresden died March 20, 2024 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were Saturday, March 23, 2024 in the Dresden Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m., burial followed in Sunset Cemetery. more
