CANTON, Ohio (February 8) — Former Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School and San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis was named one of seven players inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2024 class on Thursday night. Willis, a native of Bruceton, left an indelible mark on the game with his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.

McKENZIE — Williams Furniture Company, 26 Broadway Street, in downtown McKenzie is closing after 46 years in McKenzie. The family-owned store, owned by Phil Williams, 78, of McLemoresville, is beginning its going out of business sale on Thursday of this week.

HUNTINGDON (January 29) — The Carroll County Highway Committee met Monday to discuss two pieces of business. The first item was the reduction of elected Road Supervisors from two to one. The second item was moving the Highway Department’s accounting, budgeting and purchasing to the County Mayor’s Office.

McKENZIE (February 3) — The Carroll County Martin Luther King Steering Committee hosted its annual Black History Program at Webb School on February 3, 2024. The theme for the program was “With God’s Grace, We are Still Moving Onward.” The speaker was Dr. Lawanda Jenkins. Music was provided by Mrs. Jackie Johnson and Tyronzia Beene. Brooks Chapel Harvest Kingdom Praise Team Daughters of Promise danced to the music “Jehovah”.

CARROLL COUNTY — School bus drivers are in short supply, both locally and nationally. Carroll County is facing the same issues of trained drivers as others throughout the state and nation, said John McAdams, director of schools for the County of Carroll.

HUNTINGDON (January 25) — Carroll County Electric Board of Directors voted to proceed with designing and constructing a new substation in the Leach Community along Highway 70. The growth around Lake Halford and Indian Lake in the Cedar Grove area necessitates the new substation to divert the load from other substations.

NASHVILLE (January 24) — On Wednesday, January 24, the Tennessee Historical Commission’s State Review Board met to decide on furthering Webb School’s nomination on to the National Register of Historic Places. The board unanimously approved moving the nomination forward to the National Park Service for final approval to the National Register. If placed on the registry, Webb School would then be eligible for National Park Service-administered federal preservation tax credits and grant programs.

HUNTINGDON (January 17) — The contract of Dr. Jonathan Kee, director of schools, was extended by unanimous vote by the Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education on January 17. Dr. Kee’s contract now extends to June 30, 2026, after the one-year extension.

McKENZIE (January 17) — On Wednesday, Stacy Myers of 101 Springdale Lane in the Henry County portion of McKenzie was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of schedule II controlled substance with intent, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

GREENFIELD (January 21) — On Saturday, January 20, the Greenfield Police Department and Weakley County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address in the city limits regarding a deceased female located inside a residence. The deceased, Krista Davis, was found lying on the kitchen floor with severe trauma wounds to her face and chest.

HUNTINGDON (January 8) — The Carroll County Commission met Monday, January 8 with a light agenda. Renee Meyers, Carroll County’s Veterans Service Officer spoke to the Commission about the Carroll County Veterans Coalition. Myers stated that she was soliciting money from the legislative body but wanted buy-in and support for the organization. Coalition’s mission is to reduce isolation and increase mental health support for veterans and their families in Carroll County.

The State Review Board of the Tennessee Historical Commission is meeting Wednesday, January 24, to discuss eight sites from across the state that may be placed on The National Register of Historic Places. Of those eight nominees, McKenzie’s historic Webb School is one of those to be discussed.
