HUNTINGDON (April 8) — Carroll County commissioners awarded a five-year contract to Red River Waste Solutions of Union City to provide weekly curbside weekly solid waste collection and disposal for approximately 6,000 households in rural Carroll County. The contract begins July 1.
Red River offered a price of fixed price of $13.23 monthly for five years. That is less expensive than the $14.22 now charged by the current contractor, Republic Services, which offered a renewal price of $14.49 for the first year with annual increases up to $16.30 monthly in year five.
The resolution was on the February agenda, however, commissioners delayed for one month to investigate the viability and service record of Red River. Republic Services, the current provider, has had the contract for approximately 25 years and asked commissioners to research Red River, the low bidder, for its service record.
