City Notified of Grant for Sidewalk Along South Main

Posted

The City of McKenzie received notification of a grant to construct a sidewalk along South Main in front of Block City Pizza and to E.W. James from downtown. Mayor Jill Holland said the grant includes a culvert to help alleviate the flooding problem in the low-lying area of South Main.
A planned sidewalk along Cedar Avenue from downtown to Highland Drive is awaiting a few signed easements from property owners along the route, said the mayor. She hopes the city can secure the easements to begin construction later this year. The sidewalk is funded mostly through a Tennessee Department of Transportation grant.
Both sidewalk projects are grant funded and require substantial documentation and easements, both of which are onerous and can create delays.
