PARIS LANDING, Tenn. —These ships are delayed because a lock at a dam is closed and the ships cannot arrive on time as planned. They had originally planned to land on Friday, May 10, the ‘Pinta’ and the ‘Nina’, replicas of Columbus’ Ships at Paris Landing State Park. However, the ships will be delayed in their arrival. The ships will dock at Paris Landing State Park/Marker 66 Marina, 16055 US-79 until their departure early Monday, May 13.
The ‘Nina’ was built completely by hand and without the use of power tools Archaeology magazine called the ship “the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built.”
In 2005, the ‘Pinta’, also a caravel, was launched in Brazil and was the first ship to sight land in the New World. Historians consider the caravel the Space Shuttle of the fifteenth century.
