County Highway Committee Votes to Purchase Backhoe

HUNTINGDON (December 13) — Carroll County Highway Committee voted unanimously to purchase a new Caterpillar 420 backhoe to replace an aging 1995 model.
Scotty Bailey said the new top-of-the-line backhoe is $95,565 based on a “state bid” price. It is four-wheel-drive, air-conditioned cab, has an extend-a-bucket, and ride stabilizers to smooth the ride as it travels roads.

Bailey said the Highway Department has the budget for the new equipment and will sell the old backhoe on a government website, govdeals.
Counties and municipalities can use the state bid price on automobiles and other equipment without the need to seek bids locally.
A request to post speed limit signs along Roy Fields Road was denied. A resident on that road wrote a letter to Commissioner Larry Spencer asking for the signage. The Committee chose not to post the signs because most rural roads have no signage indicating speed.
