County Hosts Asset-Planning Meeting

Posted

Government and school leaders were invited to attend an asset-planning meeting on Tuesday, April 16 at the Carroll County Office Complex.
The meeting was hosted by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services.
The event was to identify the strengths of the county’s assets and how to better leverage those for the benefit of the citizens.

Carroll County is listed as at-risk economically, the fourth lowest assessment of five total evaluative designations. There are 19.8 percent living below the poverty level.
According to data distributed by the ThreeStar Community Snapshot, Carroll has lost population. In 2012, the population was estimated at 28,652. In 2017, it was estimated at 27,860.
Attendees identified many strengths in the areas of workforce development, industrial development, education, recreation, historical and cultural, healthcare, agriculture, and retail and small business development.
Carroll has been successful in recruiting industries in the last two years with a Huntingdon manufacturer expanding, a new McKenzie industry coming on line later this year, and a new industry in Huntingdon and one in Bruceton. However, the loss of the hospital in McKenzie has adversely affected the growth in jobs.
