Dr. Potts’ Symposium Features CP History

Bethel University will host the Dr. James Potts History Symposium on Thursday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ayers Lecture Hall located on the first floor of the Morris Science Complex. The featured speaker is Dr. William Black, visiting instructor of History at Western Kentucky University. Dr. Black’s presentation is “Border States, Border Church: Cumberland Presbyterians and the Problem of Slavery.”
Dr. Black graduated from Bethel University’s Honor’s Program with a degree in History in 2011. He received his Master’s Degree in History from Western Kentucky University and his Ph.D. in History from Rice University. Dr. Black specializes in 19th Century Religious and Southern History. He has numerous publications in Journal of Civil War Era, Journal of Popular Culture, The Washington Post, Vox, and The Atlantic.
The Potts History Symposium is named after long-time Bethel History Professor Dr. James Potts and is sponsored by Bethel University’s History and Honors Departments.
