Former HIS Building Purchased in Bruceton

Up to 40 jobs over five years could be coming to Bruceton to fill the vacant Purity Food building, a former HIS building.

The building changed ownership last week to a new company as a precursor for the transaction to be completed.

While neither the name of the company nor its products were revealed during an August 23rd meeting of the Carroll County Industrial Board, Brad Hurley, president of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce did say it is a domestic company with operations in Nevada and Ohio.
A timeline of numbers of jobs is: 1st year 10 jobs, 2nd year 20 jobs, 3rd year 30 jobs, 4th year 35 jobs, and years 5 to 7 40 jobs total.

At that August meeting, a PILOT – payments of lieu of taxes was approved for the new company. The company agreed to fixed property tax payments over seven years of $17,982 annually divided as follows: County of Carroll $5,335, Town of Bruceton $7,564, and Hollow Rock-Bruceton Special School District $5,083. The plan calls for a forgiveness of ad valorem taxes for a seven-year period. The company will also pay all taxes in arrears amounting to approximately $100,000, according to Hurley.

Hurley said the issuance of a PILOT is one of the many steps to land the company, which will operate a warehouse and distribution center and pay an average of $18 hourly plus benefits. He said the business model can be adversely affected by tariffs.
