McKENZIE (May 18) — Hundreds gathered in Bouldin Auditorium at Bethel University’s Dickey Fine Arts Building Saturday as Genia Sherwood’s School of Dance presented its 2019 recital, “iPod Shuffle.”
Dancers from age three through college performed 29 routines in a variety of styles, including ballet, jazz and tap, to hit songs spanning decades.
The Three- and Four-Year-Old class included Merritt Ghyers, Jaden Pate, Ava Walker, Hadley Wilkins, Abby Price, Ella Page, Myla Starr, Alicyn Ninness and Emmalynn Adkins. They performed “Elegant Elephants” and “Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu.”
The Kindergarten class included Addie Brown, Macie Roberts, Harper McCall, Amelia Walker, Allie Ochoa-Villasenor, Vera Tippitt, McKenna Sherwood, Emma Lifsey and Savannah Ulrich. They performed “Dance with Your Teddy Bear” and “‘A’ You’re Adorable.”
The First Grade class included Ximena Padilla, Kaytee Garrison, Claire Wilkins, Jessamyn Romines, Katelyn Martin, Zoey Neville, Heaven Hatley and Sophie Price. They performed “What the World Need Now is Love” and “Boogie Baby.”
The Second and Third Grade class included McKinley Spellings, Shayleigh Lewis, John Patterson, Olivia Scarbrough, Kate Radford, Hadley Smith, Ridley Holt, Abby Ham, Madelyn Anderson and Abby Boone. They performed “Don’t Rock the Jukebox,” “Sing” and “The Twist.”
The Third and Fourth Grade class included Natalia Taylor, Delta Baker, Sevin Skinner, Marley Crews, Lola Barton, Olivia-Kay Pate, Bianca Pryor, Caitlin Langley, Rhyan Roberson and Yaretzi Gonzalez. They performed “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “Candle on the Water” and “Joy.”
The Fifth and Sixth Grade class included Jocelyn Romines, Alli Molling, Briley Arnold, Emily Kennedy, Lily Sam and Shelby Lewis. They performed “Never Enough,” “She Sets the City on Fire” and “Happy.”
The Upper Middle School and High School class included Taylor Hall, Juliet Romines, Jackelyne Padilla, Brett Toombs, Matti-Claire Roberts, Ava Jones, Kylie Otis, Madyson Thomas, Makayla Douglas, Lexie Sullivan, Emma Carnes-Soto and Gracie Blount. They performed “You Say.”
The Senior class included Maggie Latimer, Alivia Green and Merella McClain. They performed “Leave a Light On.”
College student Madison Graves gave solo performances of “Downton Abbey,” “Head Above Water” and “Different.”
The combined ensemble of the Upper Middle and High School and Senior classes performed “Magic to Do.”
