Jimmy Tosh Discusses Pork Industry, Farming

Posted

McKENZIE (August 7) — Jimmy Tosh of Tosh Farms, Henry, was the featured speaker at the McKenzie Rotary Club on Tuesday, August 7.
Tosh said the Henry-based farming operation began in 1913 and now operates under three brands: Tosh Farms, Tosh Pork, and Bacon By Gosh (trucking operation).
It is a family-owned, award-winning operation with 385 employees, 20,000 acres either owned or leased for crop production, 33,500 sows in production, and sells 770,000 hogs annually. It owns and operates its own production barns plus has 80 contract family-owned barns. The topped-out hogs are transported mainly to Louisville, Kentucky for processing.
Tariffs had depressed the pork and row crop business, said Tosh. Also, the increase in the price of steel has greatly affected the price of erecting new hog barns, such as the Crutchfield site just outside of McKenzie. One portion of that construction project will be not be completed at this time, said Tosh.
