Lady Rebels’ Stellar Season Ends at State Tournament

MURFREESBORO (October 24) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebels ended their soccer season Wednesday with a first-round loss to eventual runner-up Merrol Hyde in the TSSAA Class A State Girls’ Soccer Tournament at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.
The Lady Rebels fell 8-0 to Merrol Hyde, who controlled the ball for the majority of the game to deny McKenzie any shots on goal. The dynamic Merrol Hyde offense kept busy the Lady Rebel goalkeeper Gracie Dillingham, who recorded a dozen saves in the loss.
McKenzie ends the season with a record of 8-6-1. They have reached the state tournament for two consecutive years after having never done so before. They were the champions in District 13A and the runners-up in Region 7A.
Their primary district and region foe Martin-Westview also reached the tournament and were defeated 7-0 in the first round by eventual champions Signal Mountain, who topped Merrol Hyde 1-0 in the title match.
