Leah Hayes Was Awarded the Ray Parish Scholarship

The H.R. Parish Service Award for Outstanding Community Service has been developed by the family of Hubert “Ray” Parish to honor his long-standing service commitment to this country and local Carroll County community.   The non-profit organization will award a graduating senior from Carroll County a $1,000 scholarship each year. This is the first year for the award and the organization decided this year to begin the annual award in Huntingdon to honor Mr. H.R. Parish’s HHS alumni connection. Each year going forward, the applications will be available countywide at each of our Carroll County high schools. The first H.R. Parish Service Award has been given to Miss. Leah Hayes, class of 2019 from Huntingdon High School.
The award was developed to honor graduating seniors who are making significant contributions to their community through their time, actions, talents, and dedication. The honoree selected should serve as a role model for compassion, service and be striving to make the world a better place. He/she should have a passion for helping others in his/her community. A documented track record of service hours, community volunteerism and service projects were requested as well as letters of recommendation from local leaders and school officials.
Students applying for the award had consistently demonstrated qualities of compassion and service to either one organization or a variety of volunteer activities. The charitable activities/events or service listed on the various applications were varied from the community and civic focused, to athletic groups to church volunteerism.  The non-profit board of directors who selected Leah were impressed by her long-standing commitment to volunteerism as well as her personal perspective on what service means to her, “I understand the importance of being present, active and productive as a volunteer in my community, by serving others, I am receiving much more than I give” wrote Leah in her application essay.
Leah will be a freshman at Bethel University in McKenzie this fall and the Board of Directors for the HR Parish Award are pleased to provide Leah with a $1,000 scholarship to help this young leader continue to grow and make an impact in her community.
