Leo Club Members Honored by Lions Club

Posted

McKENZIE (April 1) The McKenzie Lions Club welcomed the senior class members of the McKenzie Leo Club from McKenzie High School.   The Leo Club, sponsored by the McKenzie Lions Club, is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a youth leadership organization.
Leo Clubs are a youth organization of Lions Clubs International. The word "LEO" stands for Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity. Leo clubs encourage youths to develop leadership qualities by participating in social service activities. They are dependent on a Lions club to sponsor and initiate a Leo club. Leo Club members are addressed as "Leos." They conduct various projects in the fields of health care, elders, children, disabled people, literacy and education, and self-development. Leo clubs are sponsored by a local Lions club and comprise an official program of Lions Clubs International.
The McKenzie Lions Club sponsored the first LEO Club at McKenzie High School in December 1998 with 23 charter members.   According to Leo advisor, Lance McAlister, the club now has 25 members and is in the process of recruiting additional members.   Students wanting more information about becoming an MHS Leo may contact McKenzie High School teacher Mr. Lance McAlister.
