10 YEARS AGO — The McKenzie Board of Education voted to cease the removal of Colonel Reb, which originated from a charge of infringement of the University of Mississippi’s trademarked mascot. The board sought a more clear understanding from the university if a licensing agreement could be reached.
20 YEARS AGO — The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department received ten new 1999 Ford Crown Victoria vehicles to replace an aging fleet of patrol cars. Five cars each were purchased from two county dealerships, Star Ford of Huntingdon and Tri-County Motor Company of McKenzie.
*Joe W. Kizer, former mayor of Bruceton and member of the Carroll County Electric Board, died at age 85.
50 YEARS AGO — Showing at the Park Theatre: For Singles Only starring John Saxon; The Way West starring Kirk Douglas and Robert Mitchum; Planet of the Apes starring Charlton Heston and Linda Harrison; and Hawaii starring Julie Andrews and Max Von Sydow.
