McKenzie Depot Hosts Second Leg of Year-Long Celebration

On February 14, the City of McKenzie celebrated the 201st birthday of James Monroe McKenzie. In honor of his birthday, the depot hosted the event. Throughout the day, students and individuals from the community celebrated with cake and tours of the renovated depot.
The city’s namesake was responsible for donating the land for the first depot along with donated the land for Bethel College. McKenzie also owned and operated McKenzie Hotel located adjacent to the rail lines.
George Washington McKenzie held the position of station agent for the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railroad at the McKenzie Station. The town began to develop rapidly after the tracks were completed and was incorporated on January 22, 1869.
The month of March is quickly approaching and McKenzie Banking Company (MBC) has gratuitously stepped forward to lead the month in McKenzie’s 150th Celebration.
MBC is the city’s second oldest business turning a remarkable 85 years old in March. The bank will be celebrating its birthday in conjunction with the city’s.
Here is the tentative schedule provided by McKenzie Banking Company:
Weekly Community Appreciation Day; Join the bank staff every Friday in March at the main bank office for refreshments
Community Appreciation Day at the Park Theatre. Saturday, March 2 at 12:45 p.m. The movie will begin at 1:30 p.m. Pick up your free movie ticket at the main bank office.

MBC movie night on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the main bank office. There will be free popcorn and soda at the movie.
First Responder Appreciation Day at the Park Theatre. First Responder and Law Enforcement introductions on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. Movie will begin at 1:30 p.m. with free movie tickets at the main bank office.

He graduated from McKenzie High School in 2000; earned a Bachelor of Science in History from Bethel College in 2004; a Masters in Education from Bethel University in 2009 and a Masters in History and Humanities from Fort Hays State University in 2011.
