HENRY (October 16) — The McKenzie Middle School basketball teams made the short trip to Henry Elementary School Tuesday for a pair of hoops contests. Both visiting teams jumped out to big leads and coasted to wins. The Lady Rebels took the opener, 44-14, then the Rebels earned a 57-19 victory in the nightcap.
McKenzie Lady Rebels 44, Henry Lady Pirates 14
The Lady Rebels blanked Henry 18-0 in the opening frame. Savannah Davis led with six points. Briley Auvenshine and MiKaela Reynolds each had four, and Nicole Gibson and Madison Gilbert added a pair.
McKenzie continued to control the game with a 14-3 margin in the second quarter. Gibson scored ten, including a pair of three-pointers. Gilbert and Sophie Pate each had two points. Destiny Allen got Henry on the board with a three-pointer. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 32-3.
The Lady Rebels had an 8-6 edge in the third, with Gibson scoring all eight points. Lady Pirate Trinitee Lockhart had four, and Allen added a pair. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 40-9.
McKenzie capped the win with a 6-5 tilt in the fourth, led again by Gibson with four points. Gilbert added a pair. Allen scored all five for Henry, including a three.
Lady Rebel Nicole Gibson led all scorers with 24 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Savannah Davis and Madison Gilbert had six points each.
Destiny Allen led Henry with ten points, including a pair of three-pointers.
Rebels 57, Pirates 19
McKenzie jumped out to a 14-5 lead after the first frame, led by Etijay Tharpa and Bryant Haynes with four points each. Bryson Steele, Zay Webber and Ralph Dennie each had a pair. Pirate Michael Tharpe hit a three, and Jakob Grgic had a pair.
The Rebels opened up the lead with a 21-5 advantage in the second quarter. Steele led the way with six points, and Dennie, Marquez Taylor and Christopher Beck each had four. Zach Aird and Stafford Roditis each had a pair, and Webber added a free throw. Grgic had three points for Henry, and Caiden Ellis added a pair. At the half, McKenzie led 35-10.
McKenzie outscored the Pirates 9-4 in the third, led by Roditis with five points, including a three. Aird and Beck each added a pair. Charlton Grgic hit a three for Henry, and J. Grgic added a free throw. Heading into the final frame, the Rebels led 44-14.
The Rebels closed the win with a 13-5 tilt in the fourth, led by Landon Brown and Craegen Travis with four points each. Tate Surber and Ayden Smith each had a pair, and Hayden Garrett added a free throw. C. Grgic hit another three, and M. Tharpe added a pair.
Rebel Bryson Steele led all scorers with eight points. Stafford Roditis had seven, including a three-pointer.
Charlton Grgic had six points for Henry on a pair of threes, and Jakob Grgic also scored six.
