McKENZIE (October 23) — McKenzie Middle School hosted Milan Tuesday for a pair of hoops contests. The Lady Rebels pulled ahead early and held off several attempts by the Lady Bulldogs to rally, winning 38-29. In the nightcap, it was the Rebels who fell behind and were unable to rally, ultimately falling to the Bulldogs 49-37.
McKenzie Lady Rebels 38, Milan Lady Bulldogs 29
The Lady Rebels led 13-9 after the opening frame, led by Briley Auvenshine with five points, including a three-pointer. Savannah Davis scored four, and Katie Prather and MiKaela Reynolds each had a pair. Brooklynn Spates led Milan with four points, Ashley Williamson had three points and Kaidence Morton had a pair.
McKenzie opened up the lead with a 12-4 advantage in the second quarter. Davis led with six points, and M. Reynolds, Kyeana Sneed and Kylie Reynolds each had two points. Spates and Makayla Williams each had a pair for the Lady Bulldogs. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 25-13.
Milan cut into the deficit with a 13-7 tilt in the third, led by Morton with eight points. Spates scored four, and Currie hit a free throw. Prather, Davis and M. Reynolds each had a pair for McKenzie, and Auvenshine hit a freebie. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 32-26.
McKenzie doubled up Milan 6-3 in the fourth to close out the win. Davis scored four, and Auvenshine added a pair. Shelby Greene hit a three-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs.
Lady Rebel Savannah Davis led all scorers with 16 points. Briley Auvenshine scored eight, including a three-pointer.
Kaidence Morton and Brooklynn Spates led Milan with ten points each.
Bulldogs 49, Rebels 37
Milan opened up an 11-4 lead after the first frame, led by Kalip Ross with four points. Adam Arnold scored three, and Davais Gentry and Adam Wright each had a pair. Etijay Tharpe and Marquez Taylor each scored two points for McKenzie.
The Bulldogs added to their lead with an 11-7 tilt in the second quarter. Arnold led with five, including a three. Carter Milligan, JaQuan Adkins and Carmelo Jones each had a pair. Tharpe led the Rebels with four, Bryson Steele had a pair, and Zay Webber hit a free throw. At the half, Milan led 22-11.
Milan edged the third 10-9, led by Milligan with four points. Gentry, Ross and Westbrooks each had a pair. Webber scored five for McKenzie, including a three-pointer. Bryant Haynes and Zach Aird each had a pair. Heading into the final frame, the Bulldogs led 32-20.
The fourth was a 17-17 wash. Taylor led the Rebels with ten points, including six-for-six from the line. Webber hit another three, and Steele scored three points. Aird added a freebie. Ross led Milan with seven points. Milligan scored six, and Jones had four points.
Bulldog Kalip Ross led all scorers with 13 points. Carter Milligan had ten, and Adam Arnold scored eight, including a three-pointer.
Marquez Taylor led McKenzie with a dozen. Zay Webber scored nine, including a pair of threes.
