McKenzie Sweeps Big Sandy

McKENZIE (January 22) — McKenzie High School hosted Big Sandy Tuesday for a pair of district contests. The Lady Rebels pulled away quickly en route to a 76-19 blowout. The Rebels led by just a point late in the first, but ended the frame on an 8-0 run and never looked back, cruising to a 76-37 victory.

The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 28-5 lead after the opening frame, led by Lilly Bennett with eight points. Whitley Smith scored seven with a three-pointer, and Mi’Kayla Gill had six points. Savannah Nesbitt scored four, and Isabella Colotta hit a three. Lady Red Devil Ashlyn Berry hit a three-pointer, and Lydia Dykes had a pair.
McKenzie had an 18-7 advantage in the second quarter, led by Anna Callahan with six points. Bennett scored five with a three-pointer, and Camille Travis also hit a three. Nesbitt and Smith each added a pair. Berry scored five for Big Sandy, and Dykes added a pair. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 46-12.
The Lady Rebels dominated the third, 16-2, led by Nesbitt and Smith with six points each. Gill and La’Jada Edmonson each had a pair. Dykes had the lone two points for the Lady Red Devils. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 62-14.
McKenzie capped the win with a 14-5 tilt in the fourth, led by Anna Robinson with six points. Tayla Stubbs scored five, including a three-pointer, and Kennedy Green also hit a three. Lady Red Devil Lauren Powers hit a three, and Dykes added a pair.
Lady Rebel Whitley Smith led all scorers with 15 points, including a three-pointer. Lilly Bennett had 13 points, also with a three. Savannah Nesbitt scored 12 points.

Lydia Dykes and Ashlyn Berry led Big Sandy with eight points each, Berry with a three-pointer.
Rebels 76, Red Devils 37
The Rebels had a 22-13 lead after the first frame, led by Ben Austin with eleven points. Caleb Gill scored five points with a three. Lazarick Hill and Nate Whitsell each hit a three-pointer. Red Devil Garrett Metcalf scored five points with a three. Kolten Christopher and Randall Camfield each hit a three, and Brandon Berry had a pair.
McKenzie pulled away with a 19-2 advantage in the second quarter, led by Austin with seven points. Lane Horton and Johnathan Moore each scored four, and Whitsell added a pair. Hill and Evan Jarrett each hit a free throw. Christopher added a pair for Big Sandy. At the half, the Rebels led 41-15.
The Rebels outscored the Red Devils 23-13 in the third, led by Hill with eight points. Moore scored seven with a three-pointer, and Whitsell, Austin, Gill and Eli Surber each had a pair. Christopher scored five for Big Sandy with a three-pointer, and Berry scored four. Metcalf and Jaylen Christopher each had a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 64-28.
McKenzie sealed the win with a 12-9 edge in the fourth, led by Jake McDaniel with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers. Elijah Seivers and Jaden Currie each had a pair. J. Christopher scored six for the Red Devils, including a three, and Blake Sims also hit a three.
Rebel Ben Austin led all scorers with 20 points. Lazarick Hill scored 12 with a three-pointer, and Johnathan Moore had eleven, also with a three.
Kolten Christopher led Big Sandy with ten points, including a pair of threes.
